My first rant of the season! :)

There has been a bit of confusion over the www.ljidol.info site. What it is - what it should be. . . I'm going to clear that up right now.

I authorized it. I'm OK with it. It's all good.

Should it be on LJ itself? No. I don't want an Idol related community on LJ. That already exists. It's called LJ Idol. Maybe you have heard of it. ;)

It's "fan run" because veteran player spydielives volunteered to do it, and that means that I don't have to take any more of my time to do it myself.

More time for me = me less cranky. Me less cranky = happy you. :D People messing with me for the sake of messing = me cranky. Me less cranky = you get the picture.

If you want to make the site better or have any ideas for "It should have this or that!!!" She is the one to contact.

I think it's a great concept. It *can* be better of course! (have more and better information with more accessibility and links back to individual LJs)

That is where you come in. Because it exists. It's going to continue to exist. So anyone wanting it to be the best it could be, and have the most information possible, should chip in!!! Let's make this useful, not only to current contestants, but to anyone coming in the future! Contact Spydie to submit stuff and see how you can help!

btw - not bringing this up as "my opinion". I'm bringing it up because the topic came up with some folks and I wanted to make sure people knew that it *was* officially recognized, supported, and any help they wanted to give would be appreciated.

It's Friday! Hubby just had a job interview! I has yummy lunch in one hour! I can't think of a single good "take" on this week's topic!!

1] Thank you for the clarification, even though I knew most of the background on LJInfo already.

2] I'm just starting to read Topic 1 entries, so have not had a fair chance to really evaluate. But I was amused by theafaye's and moved by az_starshine, so far.

I'm already familiar with their writing styles, though... this season, I want to explore more "out-of-my-depth" entries from people with whom I don't already have a reading/commenting relationship.

3] Cool weekend plans? Moi? You must be joking. I barely acknowledge that weekends even exist.

I've been so incredibly busy with the whole bunch of translations that were dropped on my virtual desk, and also lost part of my work due to not saving it correctly (never work on the files you opened in your email dear kids ... save it first).

I'm not even sure I've SEEN the topic thread =/

But, I have very cool weekend plans. Tomorrow I will have a two year old - and she's going to have TWO parties. One tomorrow for my SO's family, one on Sunday for my family. She is also going to be the most spoiled kid on this face of the planet but yeah.

This weekend will be fun! My birthday is next weekend, and I'll be having my BESTEST OF BEST FRIENDS over, so my mom picked THIS weekend to celebrate with me.:)

We're going to pilot a TV show, and she made me pumpkin spice cake with cinnamon buttercreme frosting! YUM!

I didn't think that I needed to address it. Then I figured that I'd talk to people one on one about it. When that didn't work. . . *shrug* I hate being "the bad guy" but it's part of the job sometimes.

Yes. It's bedtime. Or at least that's what I plan on telling my boss after I get back from lunch. "shhh... don't bug me when I'm sleeping at my desk! It's bed time!!!" ;)

Personally, I LOVE short entries, especially with well over 200 folks this season! Mine are typically in the 300-500 word range, since that's what works best for me. :)

I'm really glad that it's Friday. No big weekend plans for me--just relaxing and catching up on TV. Probably I will also bake an apple pie, because I've got about 8 pounds of apples at home that need to be used!

So far I've only read a couple of the Topic 1 entries. Last night I was mostly focused on getting my own posted before I could overthink things or let my perfectionism take hold.

I did like zia_narratora's comic quite a lot, though. It was funny, because it's true. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to reading entries this weekend and seeing what other people post.

I have thought about the general dialogue about how people get constructive criticism on their posts, and how some people wish that they could get more of it but people mostly comment to praise others.

My current idea is for anyone who's interested to put a blurb at the bottom of their entry saying they welcome constructive criticism. I haven't posted for this week yet but I intend to do that.

What do you guys think? Workable, or too drama-inducing?

I'd say potentially workable. There's the issue where people think that they're ready to get constructive criticism--but when someone finally offers some, they take deep offense. And, the problem where a lot of people probably still won't offer any, either because they're "too nice" or they're fearful of the people who will get offended.

I think the problem some people have with the Idol site is that it seems more for certain people to fwap their own greatness than serve any meaningful purpose.

It really isn't the intention; I think each player has their own perspective on what the game has to offer, as well as tips for playing/surviving.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to submit stuff.

Stuff about myself is there as examples, since I was the only person (at the time I was building) I had the IP rights to republish content from.

ETA: I also have to wonder if the people who think that have read the majority of the content, or if they continue to read the new content, but that is neither here nor there. It is a resource; whether someone wishes to use it or not is up to them. I suspect most veterans won't care a whit. New players might find some information that that is quite helpful and encouraging.

Weekend plans, weekend plans... let's see.

My 5-year-old just got the cast off his arm this morning, so he will be playing in a soccer game tomorrow at noon.

Tomorrow evening, one of my coworkers is getting married.

Sometime during my Saturday I also need to find time to do my sister-in-law's 2008 tax return.

And then I'll need to pack... my husband says that Sunday morning he's taking me on a three-day... hrm, what was his word... vay-k-shun? Not quite sure what he means by that, but he had me book a hotel room in San Antonio and called his mom to come stay at our house with the boy through Tuesday. Why he feels the need to do this now, when LJIdol is just ramping up, I'll never know. Doesn't he know I have entries to write?!?

I feel like my entry is a little unfocused with regard to the topic, but the idea grew pretty organically while I was thinking about the topic, so I don't feel too bad. I don't know.
