Green Room - Week 19 - Day 1
Feb. 2nd, 2009 11:28 amGood late morning/early afternoon.
Sorry for the delay today in the Green Room, I was just enjoying my Six Pack!!!!*
(* for those non football inclined folks (*kicks you*) I am of course referring to the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers now have 6 Super Bowl rings, more than everyone - and of course that I've spent the whole morning drinking heavily.*G*)
So what are *you* doing today? Besides wondering what the Legacy of Doom will be?

Date: 2009-02-02 04:54 pm (UTC)We went to see Taken last night, and it was pretty damn awesome! Took me forever (and a look-up on IMDB) to remember where I'd seen the girl (Maggie Grace) who played Liam Neeson's daughter. She'd been on Lost back at the beginning - she was blonde, then. In the movie, she had brunette hair and was playing a 17-year-old, but the actress is really 25.
Sometimes it's amazing what a change of haircolor can do!

Date: 2009-02-02 05:51 pm (UTC)Oh, I hear that.
Back in the day, when I was taking AP English in high school, we had to pick an author to focus on for the year. The only given criteria was that the author had to have 6 published books or short story collections, because we were going to be reading and reviewing three books per semester.
I chose Chris Claremont. He had just published his second novel, and I was going to use comic book story arcs and titles as short story collections. I admitted that I was thinking "outside the box" by counting a comic book as a short story, and by counting 10+ comic books that had an epic story as a novel. So, I had a back-up pick in case my AP English teacher rejected Claremont. My back-up was Douglas Adams.
One week into the class we received a lecture on the differences between an author and a writer. People who wrote "trash" (as she called it) such as magazine fiction, paperbacks and comic books were "writers." People who wrote "literature" such as books and novels were "authors."
She then gave us a list of 35 "authors" that we could choose from. Out of class discussions with my peers allowed me to find out that only one of us had picked an "author" to read.
Some people who were rejected: Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Agatha Christie, Henry David Thoreau, and Mario Puzo. The only student who got to keep her choice had picked Jane Austin. And, the only American on her list was Mark Twain.
Our first "open" writing assignment was to write an essay on any topic that was at least two pages long. I wrote on how discouraging it was to me as someone who wanted to be an author when I grew up to find out that the only way to do so was to either be born in Europe, or be dead for a century. My grade on that assignment was, "See Me After Class."

Still with concern about whether the roads will be drivable tomorrow I'm being philosophical.

Date: 2009-02-02 06:06 pm (UTC)Didn't watch the superbowl at all. Watched the Top Model marathon instead between clearing our property and eating breakfast and a local donut shoppe, yum.
But I'm glad your Steelers won, Gary.

Date: 2009-02-02 06:20 pm (UTC)Ok, just second-hand shopping, and I have had great success too.
Unfortunately, now I must actually work around the house.
I have given up wondering, G. It won't do me any good, and stress just makes me harder to deal with for everyone else.

Having trouble deciding if the job is worth the trouble of moving, or if I should just wait til the Hubster gets back from his deployment and move to wherever he's stationed next.
