Less than 24 hours to go before the shortened deadline in place this week. Apparently some people missed that notice. So I'm saying it again.

Thursday Jan 22nd at 7 pm EST. Please note that. I'm pretty sure no one wants to go out at this point with anything less than swinging for the fences.

The following is the list of people who still need to turn in their entries. It's a quite a list at the moment. I look forward to updating it and watching the numbers dwindle. . . hopefully.

Aware of the deadline, but I've spent the last two days in doctor's appointments and getting lined up for chemotherapy which I'll be on for the rest of my life :( I should have something by early tomorrow. If not...it was well worth the ride!

That sounds ominous... What is the chemo for?? I hope you'll be with us (Idol and beyond) for a long time!

Severe psoriasis. The chemo will permanently knock out part of my immune system in hope that it will quit attacking the bones and joints and heart muscle. If it works, I'm on this therapy for the rest of my life. As chemo goes, it's relatively painless with few side effects but it does leave me vulnerable to infection and, ironically, at increased risk for cancer. This type of chemo is the absolute last resort for treatment and used only for severe cases like mine. At the moment, I don't have any skin that isn't impacted.

I'm not a contestant, but I like the small twist of a tighter deadline. It mirrors the real world where authors have to meet changing and sometimes unrealistic deadlines. Good luck to all!

Exactly!

Things pop up all the time in the publishing world. From the "changing and unrealistic deadlines" to trying to promote a book or surviving the social encounters just attempting to get your foot in the door to get someone to look at your submission.

It's part of the fun of the "twists" that I try to put into Idol is that most of them play out in that scenario as well!

I don't like the whole "Open Topic" thing. It made it much more difficult this time around because you're competing with a wider range of possibilities. Some people will get votes simply because there topic is awesome, and others will get votes because their writing is great. The best, of course, will have both.

I just got an email. Because of the deadline she was running late. But I haven't finalized the poll yet - and as has been done for many a person in the past (almost every week it seems), I'm going to wait a few more minutes to try to have a full roster.
