Not first, but still up anyway...thinking over this weeks entry. I hope I'm able to come up with something before I have to solely dedicate my time to getting ready to go to Arizona with the Falcons for the playoffs..

Well at least I'll be the first contestant to welcome in the new year :oP

I've drafted an entry but still may use my bye if it doesn't pass the husband test.

It has passed the husband test. His comment on finishing reading was "My GOD you're complicated!"

All of the above. I don't have a specific type of entry that I vote for. I just go for well written. I might make an exception on the quality of writing if an entry is sufficiently thought provoking or it's an original take, but if it's incomprehensible to me, then I won't vote.

Personally, I don't like entries that seem to say "vote for me because I've had a bad life." Some of the most heart wrenching entries have been fabulous, if difficult, reads, but there have been others where I felt that the writer was trying to win sympathy votes and that doesn't do it for me.

Finally, different is always good. Something which stands out for whatever reason, whether it's a funny entry in the middle of deep and meaningfuls, or a creative use of everything LJ can entail or something completely unique. I like to be entertained and interested, but I think that can be combined with finding out more about who someone is. I don't see it as being an either/or scenario.

I've been reading the entries. I still don't know what I should write about.

It's snowing hard this morning. There is only a light dusting but it's already slippery and I already slipped but luckily didn't fall. I hate taking the bus when it's snowing hard because it takes longer. I'm working only a half day today.

To be blunt

I rarely vote for the heart- or gut-clutching of a story if the writing isn't strong enough to convey it.

I rarely vote for the light and whimsy if the telling is clumsy.

Quality definitely take priority over content. But if you are asking my preference on content, this is what I like to read -- the contestant names are those that I think best define what I mean, but are far from the only ones who are able to capture these:

A single anecdote from someone's life [happy/sad/triumphant] (ala [livejournal.com profile] baxaphobia)
A gut-wrenching emotional snapshot (ala [livejournal.com profile] rosepurr or [livejournal.com profile] kittenboo)
A well-done piece of fiction (ala [livejournal.com profile] pelsandfriends or [livejournal.com profile] oberonia)
A theme illustrated with anecdotes (ala [livejournal.com profile] rm)
A clever use of the medium or approach to the topic (ala [livejournal.com profile] technophile or [livejournal.com profile] superhappytime)

To sum up, it isn't the "happy/light vs sad/depressing" that is important to me. It is whether the writing is something I look forward to reading.

ETA: And welcome to the Green Room. Normally there would be food, but I think the unofficial hostess is off doing something right now, but there are leftovers in the fridge, and someone will be making a fresh pot of coffee in just a bit.

I need more sleep, but I have too much to do today.

I will be back later (yes, that is a threat, not a promise).

*blows kisses*

[ps. I owe a few first acknowledgments. I will get them this afternoon. I have been preoccupied.]

I am sick! I started feeling lousy yesterday and it has not gone away. How did I get a cold when I've hardly been around anyone this week? Groan! Going back to bed.

Good morning Green Room!

Today is officially day 7 of no soda/no caffeine.

I don't think I'll make it to midnite tonight so I will wish you all a Happy New Year now! :)

Welcome to the Green Room. If you ever find you don't understand something in here, it's really fine to ask. We don't Most of us don't bite. :)

I get the feeling that most people would reply with "well, it depends on the quality of the writing..." etc. but I don't think that's honestly the case.

It really is, at least with me. Deep and dark and gut-wrenching doesn't mean a thing if the words don't draw me in or make me care or feel something about what's being said. Whimsical isn't whimsical unless it's written well. Written poorly it's trite or some other adjective I'm grasping for and not finding without my caffeine.

And there are a lot of entries that fall between the two extremes, that are just about a thing that happened or a way of looking at life. Most entries probably.

And I have a feeling my answer isn't really helping. :/
