I started a discussion toward the end of the day yesterday. A couple people commented, but I think it's something that more people should be thinking and chiming in about, which is why I'm posting a link:

and being that I control the vertical *and* the horizontal I'll add a thought or two, right here at the top of the new Green Room. It's sort of based on PTW's comment, but it's more based on something that I've observed over the years - which is the disconnect that someone can either be "entertaining" OR tell a personal story. It's just not true. At all. That's what the agent was getting at, that's the "leaving a tip", a little something extra. You can be the most entertaining writer ever, but if you leave your audience cold, if that they don't get a sense of who you are and why it was important for them to read, you are far less likely to get them to come back to read something else from you.

So, what sort of tip do YOU leave in your writing? What is it about your stuff that makes it special enough that I should take the time to read it, instead of doing something else?

and btw - Green Rooms can easily become Work Rooms, if people use them as such. If I see a need develop for Exhibit B Work Rooms, they can definitely happen.
