Green Room - Week 10 - Day 4

I never dreamed that I would be making this announcement, but you never can really tell how life is going to work out…

I can’t go into too many details, but it looks like the success of LJ Idol has finally attracted the attention of TPTB at Livejournal and they have offered me a full time job producing content, as well as a position on the editorial board. I’m really excited about all of the new things that will be coming out from the site!

I know one of the things that people have been wanting to incorporate from facebook is a “like” button for posts. We aren’t going to do that, however we will have an “eliminate” button. If someone gets enough clicks, their LJ will be eliminated from the system – just wiped clean. The LJ techs have already shown that they know how to do this, but making it an actual site feature if the type of forward thinking that I hope to implement during my time on The Board.

One of the projects that I have been working on is a new anonymous snark community called sf_OMG, combining celebrity photos with people who have only academic-life experience to achieve a new level of shallow self-righteous navel-gazing. I’m fairly confident this will be launching in the next few weeks, unless it is accidentally deleted and/or moved to Dreamwidth.

Idol will still be Idol. Except that there will be a link on the main page, and all new users will be required to participate in a season before joining any other community.

The future is looking up for LJ, and I’m glad that you will be able to share in the excitement! Look for more updates soon!

It’s interesting/a little weird for me to be looking at the poll and see 16 names. In some ways, it feels like we are only getting started. In other ways, it does feel like we are nearing the end. I guess that is what you get when you have a mini-season!

Whatever that feeling you get when you look at the poll, there is one thing that can’t be denied - 5 more contestants will be leaving us this week, and no, that’s not a joke. Which is a pretty big hit to be taking this late in the game, but one that needs to be made.
