Some days it’s like getting a dog into it’s kennel to go to the vet. Other days, it’s more like asking Rand Paul what he thinks about the use of drones. But one of the things that I love about Idol is that there are no shortages of answers on “how to be successful”. Everyone has a sure-fire way, because everyone has an opinion of what they personally like to see.

When you get those ideas in the same arena with each other, it’s always interesting to see where the common ground is, and where they bump up against each other.

Looking at, to grab an example, the top 4 or 5 from each season - you tend to see 4 or 5 different paths there. Some folks have been commenting on every entry from every other contestant, others have been off doing other things, preferring to just let their entry speak for them. Some have been rewarded for one thing, and when someone else tries the exact same thing, they end up pilloried!

It’s like the old “fiction vs non-fiction” or “pimping vs not pimping”.. there are going to be people on every possible side of every single issue. Which is a wonderful thing. That conflict that arises as a result of it, and the discussions that happen because of the tension is where actual growth tends to occur. Maybe someone will say something that sticks in your head and makes you think a little differently about something. Or maybe they will just solidify your view on how *you* want to play, what you want from your Idol experience!

That’s the beauty of it! It’s not like “everyone is right”, it’s “Only Gary is right. Everyone else is wrong, and most likely a hippie foreigner in need of a good kicking"!

While you are busy being wrong, the deadline for the new topics has been sneaking up on us! It’s today (Thursday)!

http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/629608.html for the main competition and http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/629460.html for Second Chance!

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

There comes a point where it’s not longer apt to say that it “got real”. Because it was always real. And, if somehow it wasn’t, it would have become real long before now.

But this is a big week though. I think we can say that without any hesitation. Well, you can. I would probably have quite a bit hesitation if I were saying it! Thankfully though, I’m writing it. Which means that it will come out fluently!

We do have some business to handle. Both [livejournal.com profile] mc_lji and [livejournal.com profile] talonkarrde88 have succumb to the evil powers of the LJ Sisterhood, dropping from the ranks of the main competition into the thankless dregs of Second Chance Idol, never to be heard from again. Unless of course, you happen to check out that poll. In which case, there’s a chance you will see them!

Which means of course our 20 remaining contestants have now become 18, and 8 more contestants will be joining them when this poll closes!!

That’s taking out half of the field in one vote! So you had better make sure to get out and support your favorites by reading, commenting, voting - and telling others to do the same!

The poll will close Monday, March 11th at 10pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!

A few words from [livejournal.com profile] clauderainsrm:

We have some bad news in Second Chance Idol as well. I mean other than being the unforgiving dregs, which you already knew.

Two people missed the deadline: [livejournal.com profile] alien_writings and [livejournal.com profile] everywordiwrite. Two incredible writers, who will very much be missed.

There was also one person who emailed me to let me know that she was dropping out that I wanted to single-out in a mention: [livejournal.com profile] turnerwolf. I wanted to make sure to acknowledge her, not only as a talented newbie but also as someone that I hope will stick around as part of the Idol family. After all, once you are in, you’re in. :)

I was nervous that her entries weren’t going to get read, due to the font size and color scheme on her LJ. That sort of thing can definitely turn off some readers. But once she fixed those things, it felt like people were finally starting to see what I had noticed right off. It’s sad to see her go, but hopefully it’s a “see you later!” situation.

Anyway, before I get too sappy - there are still eliminations to handle. You look at the numbers, and it’s pretty easy to figure out how many are leaving us this time around... that’s right 10!

The poll closes Monday, March 11th at 10pm EDT

Good luck to everyone!
