Green Room - Thanksgiving Week - Day 2
Nov. 26th, 2008 07:17 amGood morning.
How about that run off? http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/203420.html
Have YOU voted yet? Considering how often the lead has been going back and forth I'd say every last vote counts this time!
Is it a battle between two writers? Or an epic battle between Vet and Newbie for the soul of Idol? Or just a random run off caused by someone handing out immunity?*g* You decide!
What are your Thanksgiving plans? Or, if you're a "damn foreigner" - what are your plans for celebrating the fact that your American friends are going to be preoccupied and you get to run the internet for an extended weekend?*G*

From:Congrats!
From:dude, where'd my edit go?
Date: 2008-11-26 12:28 pm (UTC)I'm going to celebrate by finishing my Thank You cards from the pseudo-wedding (it's only been 6 months), and also by fulfilling this month's tithe. It's been a while since I was in a position to do that, so I'm going to celebrate and give thanks for the opportunity.
Re: dude, where'd my edit go?
Date: 2008-11-26 12:33 pm (UTC)Heck if you lived nearby, I'd throw a turkey in my oven for you.

Date: 2008-11-26 12:31 pm (UTC)So I slept in and I'm not running around getting ready for work, and I'll have time to tidy the house a bit before my sister comes for turkey day tomorrow.

Date: 2008-11-26 12:38 pm (UTC)I'll be spending my weekend of owning the Interdumb with playing World of Warcraft (European server unfortunately, so still about the same competition about as usual),
Wooly Hooves (http://www.woolly-hooves.com/newplayer.php?ref=3375), and finishing up my NaNo novel. Or at least getting it over 50k so I can pretend I wrote a whole novel in a month. ;) I should also draw Christmas cards and some art for an exchange art community.
I wish I could have American Thanksgiving dinner though. So tasty. Mum won't even buy me goose dinner for MÃ¥rten (local "holiday" of sorts where, well... you eat goose. That's about it, really.), so I get no tasty oversized fowl.

Date: 2008-11-26 12:40 pm (UTC)Thanksgiving plans?
As soon I get off work...run to the bus, get on said bus, head home, finish the last of any packing, and then jump in the car for a lovely more and like traffic filled trip (grumble...) to Brainerd which is a 3 hour drive.
Spend a nice 3 or 4 days up there with family stuffing myself with some awesome food, and then trying to function and do some more homework (portfolio redo is due 12/1). Then head home....
Should be a nice time away...
Just no internet (uber slow connection)
So I hope all those in the States have a safe, happy Thanksgiving. Those not in the states...have a awesome weekend.

Date: 2008-11-26 12:43 pm (UTC)I'm up and there's only like nine comments in the gr? woe! Unless there are more coming in while I'm writing this. Insane? I think so!
last session with life coach for this round was yesterday, and I'm not sure whether I'll have more. We've got some concrete goals set, so we'll see how it goes. :d
Got up early this morning so I could fold and put away laundry, and I *still* haven't done that yet.
Having issues with windows live; I can sign in, but for some reason I can't see my contacts, which means I can't message people. :( Aim works, so anyone here who wants that comment, and I'll give it to you. (for those who don't have already.)
Nothing on deck for tomorrow; we had ours last week since Mom is out of town this week.
ETA: happy Wednesday yall!

PS... eeeks! :d
Morning Fellow GREEN ROOM addicts
Date: 2008-11-26 01:04 pm (UTC)Every time I tried to make some, something came up to prevent them from happening. Blues (and for those of you who are wondering who the heck that is, Blues is the man that I live with now, my primary source of love and support, and a man I stalked for over a year before he figured out I liked him)... anyway Blues has to work late tonight and early Friday.
That made driving to one T-day invite extremely difficult *sad face* It made driving to see my kids absolutely impossible.
We might go see some movies tomorrow (Transporter 3 opens today!), but other than that... not much.
As for the battle... I don't want to think about it - it is making me sad.

Date: 2008-11-26 01:06 pm (UTC)Thankfully I know what I'm doing in a kitchen, and it shouldn't be too bad. Unfortunately, if I mess it up I already ate my backup plan of the red sauce and meatballs I made over the weekend. Guess I better get it right!

Date: 2008-11-26 01:45 pm (UTC)Thursday is Thanksgiving dinner with my in-laws, Friday is Thanksgiving dinner with my family. More people are attending each dinner than usual for Thanksgiving, and I have to say, I'm relieved that this year they are on different days. Usually we're running from one house to the next and eating two HUGE meals in one day. Now we can gorge ourselves for two days in a row! ;)

My Thanksgiving will be spent with the family of the man who is divorcing me. Just because he's done with me doesn't mean that his family stopped loving me, and they are much closer than my own family is. I'm extremely grateful to not be spending My First Single Holiday alone.
We go out for dinner, instead of making someone cook, so we're likely to hit a buffet in the Capital District somewhere. Then I'm hoping to spend some time with a friend who had his tonsils out yesterday. He won't be in the hospital still, but he won't be able to go home until after the holidays (lives alone).
And on Thanksgiving, after everyone is gone, I'll dig out my Festivus lights and make my apartment glow. And then in the glow from the blinking lights, I'll make my list of what I'm grateful for, and post it for everyone to read.

Date: 2008-11-26 01:53 pm (UTC)I'm supposed to spend this afternoon making a pie and a cheesecake for tomorrow's T'giving dinner with friends that hubby and I are hosting... but a coworker and I went out and got sloshed last night, so I'm feeling a tad under the weather this morning! Also got very little sleep, so there's a good chance that baking time will be preempted by napping time...
I wrote part of an entry for this week, but didn't post it because I was just sober enough to realize that PWI was probably not the best idea ever ;) Will edit and finish and post later!

Date: 2008-11-26 02:04 pm (UTC)I'm heading to the grocery store for some cookie-making ingredients (sugar, butter, brown sugar) and then to teh state store for some wine. Because in Pennsylvania, the grocery stores are not allowed to SELL ALCOHOL. WTF?! We have to go to a state-owned alcohol store (that only sells booze) to buy any kind of wine or liquor. (Beer can be bought at bars or beer distributors only.)
I think while I'm at Walmart, I'm going to buy some fabric for a MinPin bandana.

This Thanksgiving is going to be a bit difficult for me. It's the first Thanksgiving that I'm actually not going home. My friends adopted me in so I will at least have someone to be with, and not be on my couch curled up with a bowl of stovetop watching crappy christmas movies on TV.
That will be Friday.
But I did my my famous peanut butter/butterscotch/fudge bars.

Date: 2008-11-26 04:16 pm (UTC)Let's see...it's just us this Thanksgiving but I've got a turkey brining (in my bathtub!) and we're going to cook the pies and set the casserole tonight so I can watch parades tomorrow instead of slaving over a hot oven.
I'm more excited about the leftovers than about the actual dinner because I'll be making my first poultry stock and turning it into turkey gumbo. A friend gave me a Cajun cookbook and I love Cajun food. Naturally this was the first recipe I have to try (though I draw the line at salvaging roadkill...yes, the book actually has instructions on how to do that).
Also --- new kitty! Got him from the shelter and he's a real gem. Love him to death, it's been a while since I had an actual kitten in the house. My current cats are all old cranky butts.
About to cross the line on my NaNo. My partner and I will finish this one and then dump it into the hands of a retired journalist friend, who will disembowel the baby and make us put it back together right. After that, it goes into the waiting hands of an agent and hopefully to a publisher (yes, really!)

Date: 2008-11-26 04:54 pm (UTC)So today I am going to bake some bread and make some biscuits for tomorrow. Cheddar scallion biscuits even, just to be extra delicious. Nom nom nom. Tomorrow will be the roasting of the ham and the beets, and I will make a giant pot of borscht. There will not be any gluey, sludgy canned green bean casserole in my kitchen! (Apologies to those who love the dish) I'm going to blanch and saute fresh green beans with ginger and cashews.
I am of course really worried, because my mother in law views anything other than salt and pepper with fear. Sigh.
On other news, we adopted a second cat so Pumpkin would have a friend. Her name is Jasmine, and she is a soft, sweet grey and brown tabby. Her eyes are like big jade moons. We are smitten.

Date: 2008-11-26 05:21 pm (UTC)2] Due to my intrepid shopping team not listening to my instructions, and buying a FROZEN turkey instead of a fresh one, I'll be having crockpot beef stew on Thursday and our turkey dinner on Saturday.
It's all good, though. I have things to be thankful for.
