How is your week going so far?

In my life I've already gone into a meeting and been told that we are going to asked to take some unpaid time off at the end of the year in order to avoid layoffs. Personally I think it's a pretty fair trade given the state of the economy. It hurts, but not as much as being out of work.

What sacrifices are you making this week or in the near future? And where do you find these sacrifices so people don't miss them? Oh wait. . . um, wrong "sacrifices". . . that's a question for "the other forum".*G*

I live that movie every day, right down to the static shocks and exact cubicles. Only difference is I have multiple positions with one boss instead of the reverse :)

That's harsh with having to take unpaid time, especially at the end of the year, but it is better than permanent unpaid time off I guess. At least you have a couple months notice. In the past our company has had surprise layoffs near the end of the year as they try to make the quarter numbers look better.

I'm planning on sacrificing a couple beers tonight for the hockey gods, and maybe a big brownie sundae to nothing in particular.

Week will go better once voting is done and the new topic comes out! Bottom 20% of my tribe this vote, so hoping I do a better job this upcoming topic.

RATS! I admit it. I was trying for a first today. But this is a heck of a lot closer than I have been lately!

Sacrifices? Funny you should ask this when I just started Weight Watchers. The joy of the lovely cream cheese danish in my refrigerator is being sacrificed to the "points" gods so that I might be thin and lovely for my brother's wedding next month.

Other than that, I am walking onto the sacrificial pyre of a freshman seminar course on libraries in about two hours. I'm the sub to teach beginning research skills to 20 bored freshmen this afternoon. My morning has been filled with lecture prep on the differences in popular and scholarly literature and how to search our library catalog! (I could do some break dancing or something, but unless someone enjoys research, they aren't going to want to listen, lol)

Good Luck with weight watchers! I did it for 6 months a few years ago, and now I can't afford the meetings but do try to shop the way I did back then.

I suck at making sacrifices, but I'm sure I'll be making them down the road. But then again, we've been making sacrifices for the last 18 months to pay down debt so that when something like this economy happened, we'd be prepared, so we're actually doing alright so far. Which is good.

And gee, thanks for an earworm! My brain can't decide if it wants to play the original version of "Hello" or David Cook's and keeps switching midstream... owies.

Sacrifice? Wow dude, that sounds kind of heavy.

I have been living pretty well the last year or so. Regardless of the economy, my situation is fairly secure... but the rest of my family (my kids, my mother-in-law) are not so lucky.

We are already providing a significant amount of support for them; I suspect as the economy worsens, we will skip dinners out and I will cut back even more on my travel to keep my kids in school and my MIL in her apartment in NYC.

Good morning, everybody! My wife and 4 yo daughter and I had a great time at the Pumpkin Patch this weekend, so I brought in some homemade pumpkin pie and pumpkin-flavored coffee for everyone. Anyone take their pie with whipped cream?

Right now I'm trying to fight off a monstrous headache that started yesterday afternoon. I really don't want to sacrifice what I was planning to do today.

Morning all. I'm sleepy, having chosen to clean the kitchen instead of catching zzzs. I ran out of steam (and House) before I got to the table (but the trash, dishes and countertops are done). Now I'm facing the kitchen table, the jacuzzi room, bedroom and laundry on a sleepy brain with nothing new left on the PVR.

I do lots of laundry - then leave it in the washing machine to molder, or dried, in a pile on the laundry room floor until one of my kids accidentally walks over it with muddy rain boots and i have to wash it all over again.

I still have about 20 pages of my thesis to write before the end of the month two books to read and four book reports to write, the cat is still in an e-collar.

Luckily, I am weathering the financial storm well. Helps to live in an area with a low cost of living and that never had a housing boom.
