Green Room- Week 2- Day 5

I don't know about things where you are, but here in my world stuff has conspired to make it a very long week, indeed. Children, school, pets, doctors, money, and of course, a Vice Presidential Debate to watch.

What did *you* think of the show last night? Was there a clear winner? Are you tired of hearing a particular catchphrase now? I know there are a few I'm becoming allergic to...

There's no debating that it's almost LJ Idol voting time again. Looks like most everyone has their entry turned in. That's good, since this team of mavericks-*achoo!*- needs to see those links in place by noon EST today. Some of you set the bar pretty high last week and I can't wait to see if you kept up the same level of quality this week. In other words, I'm looking forward to all the reading that awaits me!

Now, if you'll excuse me, it's been quite a morning already and I could use some socks and coffee. Y'all can hang around here and chat, though. I'll be back, and you know how the Green Room works...so, GO FOR IT!

Yeah for the day off and reading entries! I have read exactly...hmmm, how many people are on my friends list?...oh yeah, four. Fridays are usually my day off, but I have a professor that decided his tests should be on Friday afternoons instead of during regularly scheduled classes...sigh.

I opted not to watch last night for fear my brain would ooze out my ears. I did catch two tiny parts with Palin speaking and she was saying almost the same exact thing word for word on what I assume were different questions. It was astonishing.

I stopped counting the number of times Palin said a variation on "before I answer that, I want to go back to ..." when I realized that the moderator was on Question 5 and Palin was still on Question 1.

I definitely should have played the "Maverick" drinking game or bingo last night-- I just watched, and ate cheesy poofs and hard salami and herb and garlick cheese on wholegrain crackers. And Twittered. Quite the party.

Plan for this weekend: read LJI, read read read! I'm through the first two or three pages but there are so many to go! If anyone wants to googlechat over the weekend I'll probably be online most of the time w/this name...

I was in class last night so I got to discuss historical fiction children's books and how to do a running record. The prof let us out early so we could see some of it but I guess I missed the memo that traffic coming out of downtown at 9pm was the new rush hour. Needless to say it took me close to an hour to get home. So no debate watching for me:(

As I said above, I ended up tossing popcorn at the TV midway through in lieu of screaming at every sound bite Palin kept making.

I will hand it to her -- she did well in the "I've been well-coached!" category.

And she's still a smarmy pompous Caribou Barbie doll.

I didn't think it was boring by any means. However, the commentary after the debate was more interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the news media spins out of it.

Palin consistently refused to answer the question, going back to previous questions that she didn't have time to complete her rambling statements on (something a lot of people expected Biden to have trouble with).

And, yet, the pundits claimed that she "took control" of the debate by avoiding answers and talking off topic.

Biden had a lot of opportunities to point out her inexperience and lack of information (she has a reporter's background, and once wanted to be a sports caster, and yet she doesn't know the material she is talking about) but he stuck to the high road that has been, for me, a refreshing part of the campaign. And, the pundits called that a weakness on his part.

My favourite part was Palin consistently using the word "nucular" rather than "nuclear" and when Biden addressed the question he used both at first and eased into the correct pronunciation slowly. He could have just said it correctly, but instead he transitioned in a way that, to a casual listener, might downplay Palin's mistake.

Second to that was Biden getting visibly upset at the notion that because he is a man he doesn't understand the trials of a single parent.

Oh, and there is a post at my own journal, if anyone might be interested, about who I might already know in person from the game. If you want on the "get to know someday" there is a place for you to add your name to the future Road Trip list. Doesn't look like there will be another one in 2008 but at least two for 2009, maybe three...

The debate? It was interesting. Neither seemed all that willing to answer the questions. At least they kept it civil, though.

Thanks to the nasty cold I had earlier this week, I don't know if I will ever really catch up on Idol. Still 66 entries to go! We'll see, though.

This is the time of year I like best. My windows are open because we have a southern exposure. I won't turn the heat on for the whole winter unless we have a bunch of days in a row that are dark and cold. Otherwise, I will crack the windows to cool it down, or open the curtains to warm it up.

So Ariel and I printed out the Palin Buzzword Bingo cards and had a go at that. She scored the first one. I scored the second and Ariel scored the third. If Palin had just said Pakistan or tax and spend, I would have had the first Bingo and two more. *sigh*

My frustration is that she would NOT answer the questions and started doing very bad impressions of Regan.

The fact that there's even a discussion of who won when Palin couldn't get the name of our general handling Afghanistan right, didn't answer the questions she was asked often because she didn't seem to understand them and has absolutely no concept that sentences should start, end and have a discernible point makes me absolutely nuts.

Look at who is in the White House! Americans are mostly idiots who prefer people who are "folksy" and "just like me" over a candidate who is competent, even superior. Morons. Plus apparently the guys all want to bang her. I don't get it, personally.
