Elimination
May. 7th, 2008 08:21 pmI've wondered what I would say if it came to this. Someone missing the deadline because of what I can only assume was RL happening the way it often does.
I never did come up with a good response, anything that I was remotely happy with.
Certainly nothing worthy of someone like
fidgety, the last of Team Badgerpants.
When they showed up I was *SO* happy. It was this group that seemed really artistic and talented - I was sure they were going to inject something new into the process. They did. They all did.
I think
fidgety more than most. Maybe that's because she lasted the longest, or maybe it's because of what she brought to the table just by being
fidgety.
I'm a huge fan of her work, and I do know that the move probably didn't help with schedule conflicts and something was bound to get lost in the shuffle. Still, I'm awfully sad to see her go. She was one of those folks that *no one* really wanted to have to go against in the finals. But if they couldn't go, she was the one they wanted to see there.
Thank you so much for a wonderful run
fidgety, thank you for everything.
You will be missed in the contest, but as of now, you are a member of the jury, so your presence will be felt for the remainder of the game.

This is so awful. This is no way for her to go out.
If that were the case, could she be brought back due to complete ignorance of the adjusted deadline?

Date: 2008-05-10 02:49 am (UTC)For those of you who don't know, I moved into my new apartment in Pittsburgh. It has been a LOT of work, mainly because a.) I live(d) an hour away in New Castle, and b.) I was chiefly responsible for moving N here from Cleveland. I was up at four a.m. on Saturday morning to drive two hours to Cleveland, pack up his stuff, come to the apartment here in Squirrel Hill, get checked in, complete the remainder of the paperwork, and drag all his stuff upstairs. We stopped for a quick bite to eat before heading to Ikea, where we had to purchase a bed, dresser, bedside tables, and so much etc. After that, it was to Target for a buggyful of necessities.
To make matters worse, we didn't have power. For some reason it wasn't on when we moved in, and the stupid power company isn't open on weekends. We couldn't get it turned on until Tuesday or Wednesday -- the days are all blurred together at this point.
On Sunday my father and I moved most of my things here, i.e. couch and other assorted furniture, clothing, etc. Between then and Wednesday, I was literally driving back and forth between New Castle and Pittsburgh -- easily an hour drive. Since Sunday, I've spent $160 in gas.
This isn't mentioning the various trips to Wal-Mart for things we needed, assembling furniture, unpacking boxes, sorting everything out. We're still not done, but tonight we were finally able to have our first real meal (frozen pizza) at home. And, like, five seconds ago I got the internet(s) hooked up.
THERE IS STILL SO MUCH TO DO! I HAVEN'T EVEN UPDATED MY LJ YET! So, for those of you on my Flist, I'm here. I'm safe and sound. And I'm ecstatic, if not wholly exhausted. Oh, and I start my new job on Monday, and I'm so unbelievably nervous!
Overall, I'm glad I participated in LJ Idol. It gave me the opportunity to share my stories -- mostly about the people in my life who affected me most, like Jay and Niko -- with the world, and that's so awesome. I think people needed to read those stories. Also, I'm usually so nervous about my writing that I'm afraid to share it. I've made some awesome friends. And I never sold out or sold myself short -- not once. I'd also like to point out that I met my goal. I only intended to make it into the top ten, so it's kind of ironic that things worked out as they did.
Being eliminated isn't a bad thing. I made N a promise a while back that I'd start working on my book again once LJ Idol was over. He's my biggest fan, and he was never a big fan of LJ Idol in the first place. So, I'll be working on a story that really needs to be told. That means late nights with lots of coffee and scribbled notes about physics mating with mythology. It's a big undertaking, but I've had a long enough break. It's time that I get to work. Besides, it's like I tell everybody: I love x-ray, but I'm only doing it until I write the best-seller -- See, that's a joke at my expense.
Anyway, I want to thank everybody for everything -- including the fish. See, that's a joke at Douglas Adams' expense, but I digress. It's truly been an honour, and...well, I'm not sure what else I'm supposed to say. My brain is frazzled and fried.
Well, that's enough of a break for me. Time to get some more things unpacked until I collapse into my new bed. This is only the third night I'll be in it, and I'm still trying to get used to the glorious sounds of the buzzing city.
