Eliminations

Sometimes you stare blinking at the results because you really can't quite believe them. This is one of those times, for me at least.

I knew it was going to be interesting, any time you set the contestants lose to dictate the fate of the game, you are going to get some pretty staggering surprises. This time was no exception.

Gone from us this week are

belenen who dropped out to save someone else from having to go. (and oddly enough, she would have been saved by the tie-breaker so it really was a sacrifice.)

Veteran player shannihilation who was always a treat to have around.

One of my very first "favorites" this season libra_dragon (who was actually in a tie for the last available "safe" spot with rosepurr who pulled it off with one extra Gold Star. . .)

and ever entertaining srs_bidness who was as fun to debate with as he was to read.

and . . .

rm, literally the last person I would have thought would be going.

Gary, I think it's silly to think people's jaws will drop when only active contestants could vote in this one. People knew exactly who they did and did not want going forward.

It's been fun. I'll let you all know if I get into grad school, since it was sort of LJ Idol's fault.

I received A LOT of emails this time about the vote from active contestants. Most of them seemed to think you were going to sail through without much trouble. Which is probably what ended up being the case, when no one thinks someone *needs* their help . . . still, really sorry to be seeing you go.

Good luck on the grad school, and sincerely, thank you so much for participating, I hope that you will at very least be sticking your head in once in awhile!

I'm starting to understand why people have been upset by this whole thing. This vote made it pretty obvious that this is a game and has very little to do with writing ability. Hats off to rm, whose publishing success should be indicator enough of how awesome a talent she is.

When I first joined up I really never expected to be in it this long, let alone a favorite of someone's, that really really hits me where it matters.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of this competition.
I have met some wonderful people here and I have been able work on my writing which may not have been the greatest and possibly still isn't that great but I think I have come a long way in theese 15 weeks in terms of my writing and finally allowing myself to believe that I have some sort of a decent ability to write.

Again, thank you much for all the support everyone gave me in terms of votes, comments, etc... It really means a lot to me and I have really enjoyed being part of this and able to really force myself to put out some heavy things.

It's been fun...
now to concentrating on school, MarsCon, and yeah work...

Well, frankly, I've got my jaw on the floor. There are at least two people on that list that I had fully expected to go the whole distance - at least on writing ability.

Color me bitter. I wasn't happy about this exclusion when it was announced, and the fact is that keeping "outsiders" from voting didn't accomplish anything if what you were going for was an honest evaluation of writing talent. What you got was a Voting Off the Island, with people changing their votes around until the very last second so that the biggest threats could be eliminated.

If I'd wanted to watch a popularity contest, I'd have stayed in high school. Perhaps next time you can make it clear that this is a political contest from the get-go, instead of springing it on everyone this far into the game.
