Green Room - Week 13 - Weekend Edition
Feb. 9th, 2008 02:08 pmGood afternoon. Hope everyone has been having a great weekend.
REALLY tight races all around this time. Which is how it should be at this point in the game in my not so humble opinion.
I did get a couple questions from folks so I'll do my best to answer them here:
"How many people are leaving this week? You said 5 and then you said 4 and I'm spinning and confused and might fall down soon."
Sorry for the confusion. There ARE 5 people leaving. However,
worldofcharlie, having dropped out officially after the polls went up is the first one. So for the sake of "how many people will be eliminated on Monday?" The answer is 4.
Hopefully that makes sense to everyone. The 4 people with the lowest votes will be going home.
"Is there any rewards this week?"
Heh, noticed that did you?*G* Maybe.
"Why maybe? Are you waiting to see the results?"
Nope. *I* know what's going to happen, just like I know how the breakdown happens at 50 and every single twist after that point. Some weeks I share more information than other weeks. This is a week when you will just have to vote the way you want to vote and if there's some added "bonus" at the end, there is - if there isn't, there isn't.
Ultimately the only number that really matters (unless someone manages to break a record) is the lowest vote getters anyway.
The only time that it counts for someone to have the most votes is that final round, until then, it's nice but it's not something that's NEEDED. Unless of course, it is!!! bwahahahahaha!*G*
***
I was also asked about "putting my views more into the game", both by people who wanted to see more of it and people who were taken aback by it.
Last season I did a list every once in a while basically talking about my perceptions on the players left in the game. Not anything hard or fast, just some general impressions that I had and what I thought they needed to do. After all, at the end of the day there is only one expert on the game, and that's me. I'm without a doubt the biggest fan!*G*
On the other hand, running it as well, I have to be careful not to just make it "who Gary wants", which hey, if I went that direction would be legit, but really - where would be the fun... and then I'd be stuck with making that decision anyway which would be HARD...
I don't think my opinions tend to carry very much weight in the voting polls anyway. But I do have to be careful not to sway them *too* much.
That said, one of the things that I both like *and* dislike about this season is how many of you guys that I've gotten to know on a personal basis. I've mentioned not really getting to know people last season, and that certainly wasn't *their* fault. I kept more of a distance, so it was harder for everyone involved. After all, this is YOUR thing. The spotlight should ALWAYS be pointed toward you. That said, I really have enjoyed the heck out of you guys - on the flip side it just makes it that much harder to eliminate people and deal when someone has a problem with how things are playing out. Because I know, from a game standpoint, that I've played it out in my head and there isn't really anything wrong - but from a personal standpoint it's making someone I like upset and so those two things conflict...
Anyway - that wasn't the original point.*g* The point being that I've considered putting some opinions out there but wasn't sure what *the players* thought about that. Would that go too far? I'm interested in your feedback and will be using it to make my decision.

Date: 2008-02-09 07:43 pm (UTC)There are some absolutely fabulous people who are a part of this game, and I *know* from personal experience that every round will get harder and harder. I hope that I will be able to take the friendships I have made here and continue them.
There will always be personalities who clash - that is the nature of being human I suppose. I have even de-friended someone that I now regret, but I am not sure how to "step back in" (if that makes sense).
I was teased that I should start playing "the bad guy of the game," resorting to "inappropriate actions" for the amusement factor. I can't. I just can't. I can be fairly competitive, but damn it, I like to be liked.
So... if you are reading this, consider it an open invitation to get to know me better. Yes, even you. Yes, even you who are not sure you trust my motives... in fact, especially you. All my contact info is on my profile page.
This isn't said to get more votes, but because sometimes I need a push in the social direction. In return, I promise to continue to just be myself.
*hugs all around*
Re: Social Aspects
Date: 2008-02-09 08:24 pm (UTC)This game has done a lot for me too. I'm gaining more confidence as a writer and am feeling a lot more comfortable sharing more of myself with people.
I have always been hesitant to let myself get close to new people as I was concerned they wouldn't like me, but Idol has shown me just how accepting people are.
I don't want to lose touch with any of you, as you all mean more to me than just game participants.
Hugs to you all!

Date: 2008-02-09 07:45 pm (UTC)Being the curious type that I am, I wonder what the official LJ Idol opinion is on me? Of course, this is a point that everybody is secretly freaking out over (or at least, I assume). Oh, wait. I know it already: "Weird, snarky girl with a strangely fascinating nose. Also has a bizarre fixation with Rick Moranis, which leads to many a WTF?!. Highly non-social, but is fairly decent with surrealist sentence structure. This person probably shouldn't exist."
Sarcasm aside, I'm sad to see

Date: 2008-02-09 08:15 pm (UTC)I think that weird and snarky is comforting for me, so my official LJ Idol opinion of you is generally that you're cool as hell and I always really enjoy what you have to say.

Date: 2008-02-09 08:05 pm (UTC)I've been outside for two glorious hours, enjoying the sun and stiff breeze on the day before a cool down is forecast. I'll chill here for a few minutes, waiting for those 3:00 church bells to silence, order pizza, and head back outside for yet more reading. Boring life? Probably, but what else do I got?
Hope you all are having a good day.

Date: 2008-02-09 08:14 pm (UTC)Considering I was engaged before, that is a liiiiiittle sad. But exciting!
Speaking on the social aspect of the game.. it makes me nervous. I'm a social person, generally, but I feel awkwardly out of place quite often here. Not anyone's fault--just the fact that I am one quirky person sometimes. But it's nice because it sets me out of my comfort zone and I'm seeing myself stick with it. It's rewarding!

It might be different if more than one person was singled out. If it were me, I wouldn't put my opinion in at all I guess. To each their own though.

Date: 2008-02-09 10:19 pm (UTC)Ran a lot of errands for my wife today while she stayed at home with the baby. This includes:
1) Returning books to the library.
2) Donating books to the library.
3) Donating other items to Helping Hands.
4) Buying a bunch of Starbucks mugs for her and a mug tree at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
5) Buying a globe as a Valentine's Day gift at Hobby Lobby.
6) Buying some glue at Wal-Mart to repair a decorative bowl, as well as a couple of Valentine's Day gifts for my daughters (stuffed animal, Snickers Bars)
So all in all, way too productive.

Date: 2008-02-09 10:34 pm (UTC)What would worry me is some kind of outing of who you think is going to win, or who you think is a serious contender, or who you think isn't doing as well as they should, yada yada yada. I think those are the kinds of things that could affect those players more than I think is fair. Not that there really is any fair in this game.
And can I just say that my boy has been sleeping for 3 hours now. Which would be awesome if it wasn't 5pm, because that means he is sooooo not going to bed at his 8pm bedtime.
(Peeks Timidly into the Green Room)
Date: 2008-02-09 10:40 pm (UTC)But the main reason I've stayed out of the Green Room is because I keep fairly busy with work and with life, and seeing 90-plus comments makes my head spin. I don't know how some of you do it on a daily basis. The past few weeks, I've been fighting the flu, or something, and haven't even left many comments on what I felt were some excellent entries. So, I just wanted to come in and thank you all for the wonderful writing. Like I said, I joined "idol" to write more, but am surprised and pleased at the friends I have made. At the very least, I feel that I've made many acquaintances whom I could smile, nod, and wave at in passing, or sit and chat over a cup of coffee. Reading entries is like picking up a new book by a favorite author. It feels like getting in touch with an old friend. So, after all this rambling, I'm just trying to say thanks to all who make this possible. I'm off now to finally reply to people who were kind enough to reply to my latest entry and so far have heard nothing. I will be sosososososososo glad when winter is over! Bears are truly smarter than we are; they settle in for a nice long nap when it gets like this! :-)

(And, by the way, I WILL be doing this to break the tension whenever it gets out of hand, which will probably be ever week at this rate. And while I recognize that this post isn't particularly bad, I don't really get to participate in the Green Room during the week. So deal. This is my good deed of the day.)

Date: 2008-02-10 12:55 am (UTC)Seriously, I'm getting better, but I have no stamina, and going to church last night set me back a day. I got too worn out. My back still hurts in the middle of my lungs, but I don't hear kittens purring when I breathe anymore.
Last round, I started tracking the votes so I could easily sort and find the low votes. This is therapeutic, especially now the vote keeps getting so darned close. At one point, there was a four-way tie for second-lowest!
Late to the Party as usual...
Date: 2008-02-10 01:40 am (UTC)I know I'm not the strongest writer in the game, but I enjoy playing and would love to hear your opinions on some of the contestants - how you see them doing overall, etc. I don't think that just one or two people should be singled out though, but I'm curious as to whom you see potentially making it into the top 25 or so. :)

Date: 2008-02-10 03:03 am (UTC)Anyone still here?
I like the "mystery" aspect to this game, in that you, Gary, aren't divulging anything other than the random "you need to step up your game" or "it's anyone's game at this point". If you pointed out certain people, some may interpret it as you playing favorites (even if you may not be), and that could easily turn into another Green Room Drama. You'd be compromising your integrity. I don't want to see you do that.
I'm sure any of us could point to the strong contenders at this point. Being such doesn't necessarily mean you'll win -- if anything, it should make all of us "step up".

Date: 2008-02-10 03:31 am (UTC)Oooh, I've got it!
You could make a green room post about all of the contestants and your thoughts on their writing or your thoughts on their potential or whatever within the game.
Then we can fill up the comments with genuine (let's hope some refrain from fakery and ass-kissing) positive feedback about our fellow contestants and their writing.
As lame and lovey-dovey as it sounds, it would be quite refreshing to give and get positive feedback that doesn't circle (like vultures) around the alliances, the strategies, the winning, the pretense, and the individuals within the contest that are and are not trustworthy.
