A few words from clauderainsrm:

When I wrote down the words ““Do what you can, with what you have, where you are" on the potential topic list about 6 months ago, I didn’t know that I would be living them. I didn’t know that Idol itself would be living in that sort of reality.

But we are. So we’re going to do what we can, with the people who are investing their time and themselves in this endeavor, here in the depths of Dreamwidth. :)

There’s another batch of strike-outs that are leaving us this week. But, taking a look at who is remaining, it’s going to be awhile until we run into this situation again.

Well I had hoped to post something by the deadline, I had an entry written on my phone and had plans to post it after my appointments yesterday…. But then I came down with a fever and extreme fatigue. I didn’t even eat dinner, I just slept. Hoping it’s not Covid.

Sad that I couldn’t participate as much as I would have liked, but I knew it would be hard when I signed up due to my health stuff. That will hopefully be over soon so if there’s another season, I’ll be waiting to sign up.

It wasn’t an entry I was really eager to post anyway. I had no ideas for the prompt and that’s why I had nothing until the last minute anyway. So it’ll just stay hidden away , I think.

Thank you. I am, thankfully. Still fatigued but only if I overdo it. I don’t think it’s Covid at least.

Really hoping that you don't have covid. That's why I missed the last week and apparently got eliminated - I hadn't checked at all so didn't know about the extra strike from last week, so was still hoping I could jump back in. Thankfully 6 days in and just finished the Paxlovid pills, so it has kept the worst of it at bay so far.

I don’t think it was Covid now that I’m feeling better. It seems like an autoimmune fever - only one night, low grade, etc after I had overdone it and with my white blood cells low due to radiation. I think I’m still healing from the radiation and it just hit me extra hard.

I usually try and read the entries as they get posted, but things have been hectic this week - and now looking at my 20-something tabs I have open, I really wanna just go do crosswords for the rest of the day and not even think about it. But I'm also excited to read everyone's entries! It's a real conundrum. Maybe I'll do ONE crossword and then read a few entries.

Sorry to see all of those strike-outs, but it's pretty cool that there's only one strike on the poll this time. It feels like we're getting closer to crunch time. :)

Good thing Gary gave us plenty of time to read, so we can balance reading with other stuff we want to do. Yesterday I was able to watch a movie AND read a few entries. I think I have about 14 left to read.

If I could refloat a previously proposed diabolical idea, I still think it would be delightfully evil to have a vote where after it ends we find out that all votes that have been cast the same way for previous 3 or 5 or whatever polls don't count in this one, ie if someone _always_ votes for someone that vote doesn't count; thus only votes from people who don't always vote for the people they're voting for, ie presumably genuinely inspired by the specific writing that week, count. Yes you might be flooded with lamentations after the fact but it would be fair across the board inasmuch as it effects everyone the same way.

Oh this *is* evil! It seems like it might be a pain to implement, though, since Gary would have to track every individual's vote for every contestant over the season (both contestant only and outside folks). Could be accomplished with a large spreadsheet, though, and would be a fascinating bit of data analysis.

Yeah there might be some serious logistical challenges, but I've found there's no shortage of spreadsheets already being secretly and not so secretly kept about LJI lol.

And it might not require THAT much spreadsheeting -- I'm proposing it only pertain to the previous 3-5 polls so he doesn't have to go all the way back, and I'm tihnking he'd just go through the poll results individual by individual, maybe have each of the previous five polls open in different tabs, and as soon as one of the current people voting for the person he's looking at it misses voting for them in a previous poll put a check mark by their name, and after looking at the five open tabs anyone not checkmarked gets listed as a voted-every-time invalid vote, then do so with the next one. Something like that anyway.

Yeah, I envisioned something similar - I guess as long as each poll only has 50ish people participating, it's likely not so bad. I can't remember if poll creators can download the poll data here - that might make it easier, too.

I suppose it would be easier later in the season when there's fewer people on the poll. They each generally get more votes than earlier in the season, but I reckon it would be easier doing fewer participants with more votes each than more participants with fewer votes.

I'm always going to err on the side of getting MORE people involved, rather than restricting voting. DW is already pretty dead, no reason to discourage people from showing up.

Also, if I start throwing out votes (there's no way of removing them from the poll, that's a surefire way of having the person who is eliminated claim that it was personal)

I guess when you put it as election tampering, it does seem pretty evil!
