A few words from [personal profile] clauderainsrm:

We’re engaged in a pursuit of our own, and not the trivial kind. A pursuit of excellence. A pursuit of something cool to read. A pursuit just to stay in one piece, and maybe, just maybe, to end up winning this whole thing!

But that’s still a way off. Right now, that pursuit has led us here, to this poll. Fortunately, there are a lot of good things to read here. So you can check that off your list of goals.

Unfortunately, there are no entries from a few people, who received their final strike, and have been eliminated.

Tsundokua

I hope that we will see them in the home game! (and to continue to hang out!)

As for the rest of you, the 2 entries with the fewest votes are going to earn you a strike.

The poll closes Tuesday, May 3rd at 7pm ET.

Good luck to everyone!

and yes, joyfulfeather had an extra strike that I missed on my spreadsheet.

My mistake = their benefit.

Static_Abyss took back the strike and posted an entry.

Maybe I’m wrong, but didn’t Joyfulfeather already have two strikes before this one?

I love how on it you are with regards to the competition. Do you keep stats on people, too, like vote averages and stuff? :)

I had a big complicated spreadsheet for when we were doing Survivor Idol but that was necessary to be able to plan strategy and stuff, and I had a hard time keeping up with it.

Lol. I’m not a stats person but my spreadsheet keeps me sane. I use it to tally (pre-poll especially) which entries I want to vote for when I read them in the prompt thread.

If someone takes a strike or doesn’t turn in an entry, I put STRIKE on my spreadsheet. If they posted but earned a strike because of being on the bottom of the poll, I’ll put (X1) if it’s their first strike, X2 if it’s their second.

So if someone takes a strike in round 4, I put STRIKE in round four. If they posted in round 5 but earn a strike, I’ll have whether or not I voted for the entry (let’s say I didn’t) and would put NO (X2) to indicate it’s their second strike.

It’s not perfect, but it works. Once they get their third strike, I remove them from my spreadsheet.

That's a pretty good way to do it. :) When we were doing Survivor Idol, I had a chart of everyone's entries, my personal rating of it on a 10-point scale, and the votes they received, as well as averages of both my personal ratings and their vote totals over time. It was handy for going, "Don't vote me out; so-and-so has been performing worse than me!"

But also too much to keep up with. I do need a better way to keep track of what I've read and haven't, though. I usually start reading before the poll's posted so I've taken to just going to the topic thread and opening every entry in a new tab and just closing it when I'm done.

(I know this is giving a secret away, but I generally vote for everyone in the poll every time anyway, because I think everyone's great in their own way, so keeping track of voting doesn't really matter as much to me.)

I’d say on average I vote for 2/3 to 3/4 of the entries. Once we get down to the Top 20, I sometimes switch over to a 1-5 star rating, and vote for 3-stars or better. That also works better for contestant only email voting or whenever we have a limited number of votes to cast.

I think this is the place to declare with pride in my heart that the late great Tsundokua was my daughter Jas! We had a bet going that if she outlasted me or made it a long ways into the game I would buy her a big set of mild liners (I think that’s what they are called anyway- cool Japanese pens that she likes). Alas, end of the year for school ramping up and the heart of the synchronized swimming season were too much to balance with writing here, but I’m very proud of the pieces she did finish for this season.

Aww that's so cool! :) I was enjoying her stuff but it makes sense that life got in the way. The end of the school year is always so busy!

Heck, I have a hard time sometimes with Idol and I do literally nothing other than work and go home lol

On the one hand, I'm grateful for the unexpected grace!

On the other hand, to be fair, you should probably eliminate me. I did get three strikes.

I'm good either way.
