The Playground - Week 2 - Day 2

 I got a phone call from my boss yesterday, but didn't see it right away. 

It was followed by a phone call - and then two more texts - from my team lead for me to call them ASAP. 

I knew it wasn't going to be good if they were interrupting my day off. 

When I finally got back to them, this is what I found out: 

That my company had lost the contract in Pinellas county (NOT my county/circuit) to run the foster care system and so had ALSO decided to surrender their contract for MY county/circuit as well. 

It was either a negotiation tactic gone wrong or a corporate version of a temper tantrum with people's jobs on the line. Either way, it wasn't good. 

As it stands now... unless there is a change, my job ends in June.  Which is more certainty than a lot of people have right now if you squint when you look at it.  :)

But hopefully either (1) something will be worked out and they will end up staying OR (2) the new company hired to run the system will onboard the existing staff, which has been known to happen... 

So that's how MY day went yesterday! How was YOURS?  ;)

Wow! That definitely sounds like a corporate temper tantrum, honestly. At least you've got six months or so to get stuff figured out if you need to.

My day yesterday was fine - all the staff was in the office for once and I could focus on doing just my own job. Today, someone's out sick again and I'm having to cover multiple jobs at once while I have a client breathing down my neck about an important event they have coming up on Friday that I need to do admin work for. Oh, and I have to do some training time with the new hire! It's not a terribly fun day, but that's not really atypical, either.

Also, I just found out that my budgeting software is going from charging me $45/year to ~$90/year starting in February, which is a little much to swallow, and I'm not happy about it. Luckily, I found out that I can roll back to their unsupported desktop app (which worked more than fine for my needs, and which I had already paid for) and get off of their subscription model. So I'm working on that on my lunch break, as well as trying to think up an idea for this strange new prompt.

That's awful news. I hope you manage to keep your job, or maybe find one you love soon. I know this is antiquated (I'm vintage, but not yet an antique), but businesses should feel some responsibility for their employees' lives and not just cast them aside like this. I know, dream on.

The prompt is challenging, but I came up with an idea while shaving this morning. Shaving is my #3 source of inspiration. Showering is #2 and cycling is #1. Showering and shaving after cycling is even better. Since my stories never wind up as I first imagine, who knows where this one will go? Probably as a deleted file. But right now, it's a start.

OMG, what a mess! I'm so sorry you got caught up in all of this. Hopefully things will work out with a bit more time, but that certainly wasn't what you needed on a Monday morning.

My day yesterday: well. I tested negative for COVID (PCR).

My husband tested positive. He's asymptomatic, so mostly this means hanging out at home for the next long while. Good thing we like each other? lolsob.

Should note here that the really frightening part is that neither of us is sure when we could have been exposed. We don't go out apart from work/grocery shopping, and we're always masked when we do. We're also fully vaccinated. Fun!

That happened to my fiancee and I, too. She caught it, I didn't, but we had no idea where we could have been exposed. We also are both fully vaxxed!

I was prepared to leave the house early and go vote before work. There’s a heated school board election for 3 seats. I had to vote.

Emergency calls from work are never good. I am so sorry you're facing this. Hopefully, June will find you in a better place.

Yesterday was the last of my 4-day mini-vacay, and I think I'm coming down with something. Sore throat, nasal congestion, and a general feeling of being run down. I just got back from a weekend SCA camping trip, so I'm hoping it's just allergies and not something worse (I was outside but around a lot of people).

While I was camping, I got an emergency text from work as well. Apparently, my time off for Saturday hadn't been turned in, so they thought I was a No Call-No Show. Since I've NEVER been a NC-NS, they were worried enough to message me and check my status of life.

My supervisor said they'd fix it, but I may be walking into a write-up this afternoon.
