 Happy Friday (and from what I was just reminded of in the comments, Happy Belated Birthday to everyone celebrating a belated birthday! Or early birthday if it's coming up.. Or Happy Birthday if today happens to be the day. Hmmm... now that I think of it, your birthdays are all now TODAY! Your parents were wrong about the date when they told you it. Your birth certificate was faked to help them cover up that lie. Today is your ACTUAL birthday.  So I hope you have a good one.)

I have the day off, so I'm just going to be relaxing and not thinking about work.  What are YOUR weekend plans?

Yay! Happy birthday to all of us!

And a happy Friday to those of us that don't have the day off!

Typically, on Friday nights my friend group has Game Night (always hosted by the same person, so she's the constant while others of us come or not depending on personal circumstances). The last two weeks, my husband and I haven't gone (two weeks ago I was dreadfully sick and last week he was), so I was looking forward to it tonight, since I actually feel okay. But the host texted me this morning and said no Game Night tonight - I guess people haven't been showing up so she's not really feeling it tonight.

I feel bad, despite have legitimate reasons for not coming the last two weeks, so I'm planning on doing something nice for her this weekend - not quite sure what that will be yet, but I have in my head that I'm going to bake her a cake? I'm not particularly known for my baking, so I'm not sure where that idea came from, but I guess I'll give it a shot. :)

I love the idea of baking but I'm not the baker in the family. But as long as you gave a recipe, what can possibly go wrong ;)

Update: the baking went... okay. :)

I decided to make a Victoria Sandwich, which I have never made before. I didn't have the right type of pans, so I improvised and the cake came out with entirely the wrong shape and thickness. Also, I didn't feel like pulling out my electric mixer so I attempted to mix the batter by hand and probably didn't do that quite right.

HOWEVER, my friend told me that it was delicious, so despite my technical issues and the fact that I wasn't completely happy with the finished product, I think it all worked out. :)

Boxed Devil's Food cake! It's always good, and generally foolproof. ;)

It's how I feel about Kraft Marshmallow Fudge. VERY repeatable, with consistently great results. My experiments with fancier fudge recipes, not so much. :O

Mmm I do love a good boxed cake mix cake, not gonna lie. But I keep watching these baking shows on TV and thinking, 'I wanna do that!'

We're heading out of town on a little road trip and then I commence (re-commence) worrying about my USCIS interview on Tuesday ... hoping it goes well!

Enjoy your long holiday weekend!
It’s costume day at work here. Having a virtual Halloween get together with 2 of my sisters and 2 cousins tonight.
Saturday will be ho hum. Sunday I’ll go visit the kids in Dayton and do Trick or Treat w them. They’re turning their deck into a tiki bar and being parrots, pirates, wenches, etc. lol. I’ll still be the cat roaming around. Lol.

I'm starting a 4 day mini-vacay by going camping at a medival reenactment event on Saturday. I just finished roasting 10lbs of red potatoes for dinner Saturday night while finishing my entry for this week.

Sunday we're having ritual at a friend's house. I still need to get the Quarter calls written for it, and the whole thing printed out, but I should have time Sunday morning for that.
