The dream is dead.
Which might seem dramatic while announcing that someone has been eliminated from the competition, but bear with me.
Because the dream is actually dead.
The dream I had a few months ago that I've been trolling you with. Where someone who wasn't on a lot of people's radar ended up moving forward week by week, until they got to the last few weeks and then just poured it on and ended up winning.
Someone at everyone was happy to see win, because they were well liked and respected.
That was
furzicle .
And by *a single vote*, in the intensely tight tie-breaker, it was decided that she would be the one leaving us.
I'll be honest - I was looking at the road ahead in the next couple of weeks and could easily see how she would end up being in the finals. That path seemed pretty clear that I was starting to wish I had dreamed about lottery numbers instead. I'll admit, as someone who thought both writers in the run off were great, because of that dream, I thought for sure there would be a last minute surge and she would find a way to get one step closer.
But that dream is dead... and now we are saying goodbye.
Goodbye to an incredible writer, who I really hope we will be reading more of in the Home Game and next season. (as well as buying copies of her Mars book when it comes out!)
Goodbye to a friend, who I had the pleasure of meeting a month ago during my California trip - she's really nice and makes tasty cookies!!
None of the other people going forward have made me cookies, and frankly I think that is a tragedy. :)
Seriously though - she will be missed in the competition, but hopefully not from around here!
Thanks for so many awesome entries, and thank you for coming out to help make this mini season special.

Date: 2019-04-14 04:46 pm (UTC)Hwango's story was a bit of genius. I would have voted for it, except...
I have to tell a happy/sad story. This weekend was the perfect storm of LJIdol doom. The happy part is that I have spent the last four days traveling 400 miles from home to attend the ninetieth birthday celebration of my maternal aunt. This party included loaded buffet tables burgeoning with fruit, veggies, cheeses, breads, taquitos, shrimp and chicken skewers, and a wedding cake-like stand of celebratory homemade cupcakes. Of course, the even better part was the gathering of rarely seen cousins and offspring, not to mention the birthday girl of honor. An added bonus has been the opportunity to stay with my son and his wife who we also don't get to see nearly as often as we'd like.
What's not to like? Well, as a dreamwidth idolists, perhaps you've seen the glitch: ABSOLUTELY NO TIME to attend to idol business, to wit, alerting my faithful public that it was time to roll out yet another vote. (Bless them, everyone.)
I had written my next entry even before the close of the last poll since I knew I'd be gone for five days. Seeing I was now in a sudden death write-off, I was dismayed, but at least I had my writing ready. Nevermind it was actually planned for the full poll, not a two-man duel.
Entry submitted, two-person poll announced, I was left with another few hours of driving, then sleeping, and then a day of family hugs and celebratory eating. I figured maybe I could recruit some votes from amongst the relatives.
Alas, that was certainly not to be.
I reassured myself that enjoying a rare day of family get-together was more important than LJI. (But you know I had that wistful feeling traipsing through my mind all day as I smiled at the relatives.)
In the end, I have to count my blessings. I never have achieved the kind of success in LJI that I did this season. I really enjoyed creating the Martian Colony adventures. Meeting Gary back in March was a hoot. He's a dear. Fortunately for everyone, I believe age is mellowing him. (He really does love his cookies.)
Thank you to all of you who have stood by me throughout this mini-season. See you around. Maybe next season we'll go somewhere besides Mars!

PS. I have a wonderful photo of Gary and I that I guess I'll have to post somewhere else. Watch for it!
