There's a poll currently up: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1039537.html

Fortunately it's scheduled to end before our Dreamwidth paid time does! That would be awkward! ;) Of course this has to be the month where Patreon is running late in payouts. So there may be a bit of a gap in paid coverage. I don't think that is going to end up impacting anything. (since polls are really the only function we use in the "paid" benefits)

But I wanted to give you a heads up, just in case there's something that I'm not thinking about.

How was your weekend?

I was planning on going into work on Saturday. But we got in late from the show on Friday, so I slept in. Then my wife asked if we could start the Punisher season 2. The rest of the day was spent watching the Punisher. (we finished *the final episode* immediately after we got up on Sunday. Pretty sure that's a record amount of time that she's sat for a television show)

My weekend was good. I avoided the Boring Bowl (not a Rams or Patriots fan) and had lunch with a friend. I ate a massive ice cream sundae. That was it. That was enough.

I'm parceling out my Punisher viewing. It's really good. Which means Netflix will cancel it. Mellow, rainy weekend here. Which was perfect.

Well that's stupid. Why would they be doing that? Daredevil and Jessica Jones were big ratings winners for them. I could see dropping Iron Fist and Luke Cage -- they were "okay." But Punisher, DD, and JJ were gold.

It's not by choice. It's because Disney (who bought Marvel) wants the rights to the Marvel world all to itself.

The thought that Luke Cage's fantastic cast is probably now orphaned really bugs me. What a fantastic array of talent, and Mike Colter was terrific in the lead.

I forgot that Disney bought Marvel. I really liked the cast of Luke Cage. I thought Mike Colter, among others, was fantastic. FOr me though, the stories and writing weren't quite as good as they were in DD and JJ. It was still far better than Iron Fist -- plus the acting was WAY better. I know Disney is launching a new channel for the Star Wars properties, so maybe the Marvel shows will wind up there.

I completely forgot that the Super Bowl was yesterday, and hence ended up wondering what on Earth was going on in town -- the grocery store was a desert. Of course, I was there around kickoff time, so that may have been why...

My weekend was all right. Restful, for a pleasant change. No work for once. :)

Very wet weekend. We moved our daughter for the second time in two weeks, both times in a torrential downpour.

I'm so into True Detective S3, I can't think of any other serialized thing. But I will add Punisher to me to-be-mainlined list.

I worked on several magazine articles yesterday. Looking forward to fictionalizing again this week.

I haven't seen True Detective (any season) yet but keep hearing how good it is. What do you think of it?

I think it's AMAZING TV. AMAZING. At least Season One and so far, Season Three. Season two is a failed attempt but if you think you would enjoy a dark, tortured, alcoholic Colin Farrell, then you will enjoy S2. It does have a nice twist at the end but it didn't make sitting through the dismality of the story worth it.

Season One, however, is a masterpiece of small cinema. Maybe...not the story...but the acting and the exposition. Just astonishing work. Also the time jumping which is critical to having your mind blown. There is a return to that style with S3, and that's what is holding my rapt attention so far. Five episodes in and not much story, but oh the acting and framing and time splicing. Gorgeous!

I recommend S1. And I do think it's becoming a cultural icon of sorts. Also, there is the famous long shot that won every award possible because it deserved to. THAT SHOT!!!

I enjoy dark and twisted characters, so I might enjoy Colin Farrell. lol...

I'm going to have to check this out. I'm very curious about it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

We actually went out to look at kitties, but it turns out that there are surprisingly few available for adoption at the shelter right now! As in, there were two adult cats (one of which was 15) and several on 'stray hold' to see if their owners might reclaim them.

We're looking for about a 1- to 2-year-old cat, rather than a kitten, so we thought there would be more to choose from! We may look via petfinder (a broader adoptability network). So many beautiful black cats, but so was the cat we just lost, so we'd prefer one that doesn't look like her. Or, ideally, some of our previous cats.

I don't know how dog owners do it. We're not dog people, but I know most people like a particular breed, and get successive dogs of that breed.

That would really bother me. I think we _might_ be ready to now consider another Holstein-colored cat, which was the pattern of the cat we lost about 17 years ago. :O

Trooper(our first Bernese Mountain Dog) and Tanner (our current one) look a little different even though they are the same breed. They are actually related (Tanner is a great nephew). They all have their own quirky personality. Tanner sleeps on his back.

I seriously debated if another would be hard but Chris really wanted another.

We’ve many had many kitties with many color patterns but they are all so different in personality too.

I am sorry for your loss. I hope you find the perfect new kitty. I got Kia from a local kitty rescue. I would check with one of them if the shelter is low on cats (that never happens here).

Thank you. She was a special and gloriously weird little kitty, and such a nice friend. We never thought we would have so little time with her (we got her when she was 4), but she had a lot of health problems and the smoke from the wildfires was too much for her. :(

The Petfinder.com I mentioned links together a bunch of shelters and rescue organizations, so there are definitely kitties available. We haven't been to the shelter that often (only 3 times), and the first it was still cages with the chance that older animals would be put down. Now, it's little rooms (except for the strays on hold to see if they'll be reclaimed). When we got our last kitty, all the rooms were full, mostly with adult cats. I thought for sure there would always be adult cats available! The volunteer said there would be more around spring (which is usually kitten season), so maybe people actually adopt more adults when there are fewer kittens now? That would be great.

And also spaying/neutering so there are fewer unplanned kittens...

I've been having the shittiest past few weeks. Things have been kind of horrible at work, school started up again, we have not great news regarding some family stuff, and I was straddling a fine line between a magnificient breakdown and just rolling with it. And this post and just the general attitide of this community really, tipped the scale into me just rolling with things as one does, because it was nice getting asked how my weekend was.

It was nice. I hung out with my grandma.

My weekends started out ok.

Saturday chris played in a charity polo tournament. Teddy, Rebecca and I went and cheered him on.

Saturday night I stayed up very late (2am) helping a friend in crisis and early Sunday morning I got called to meet my mom at the ER from her assisted living (uti so treated and released) 4 hour of sleep is not my friend. We went grocery shopping on the way home. Then I went to bed at 9 pm. I got all the entries read while waiting around
Today we went for a long walk, worked on our commitment ceremony, and made dinner. Teddy finds the Yoda back pack I have hysterically funny.
