*waits patiently until the last person gets back from voting*

*as they sit down, I walk over, grab the urn and heads back into the production area*

*A few minutes later,  I walk back to the podium and set the urn down in front of me*

All right.  It's time to read the votes.

If anyone has a hidden immunity idol and wants to play it, now would be the time to do so.

*everyone looks around*

*No one stands up*

OK.  Let's read the votes.

*Opens the lid of the urn and pulls out a piece of parchment. *

We have a tie between uselesstinrelic and bittyjane.

By the rules of Survivor, when you have a tie, there is a revote.   You can ONLY vote for one of those two.  It also means that they will not vote.  (they can only vote for each other, and thus cancel each other out)

The rest of you will head back, one at a time, and cast your votes again.

HOWEVER, if the result of that vote is also a tie, then those two will both have immunity, and the rest of you will be drawing rocks to determine who will be eliminated.  In our terms, there is a random name generator and whoever is selected will be eliminated.

You have until tomorrow. Sunday Nov 22nd at 7pm ET to send your vote to me at clauderainsrm@gmail.com

(if I get the results sooner, I will announce them sooner)

Someone come get this urn and take it back to the booth with you.  Let's get started.

Welcome back to Tribal Council, Luzon.

After your previous experience, I know this is the last place you wanted to be.  But here you are.  Again.

Before we get into the specific questions, there’s something that I want to put out there to the group... To anyone who feels like answering.

There was a rumor going around that one was upset enough last week to send a note to an Asaga member, questioning the vote, and not believing that they should have won.

Anyone want to own up to being the one who did that?  After your second loss in a row, is there anyone here who still feels that way?

Let's start digging into what's going on with this tribe...

First round of questions.

N3m3sis43 -  Does the tribe have a leader?  Is there anyone who has stepped up to the plate to bring you together?  Or is it more than one person calling the shots?

Flipflop_diva -  Last tribal council, the votes were all over the place.  Is that indicative of deep divides behind the scenes or was it a random “anybody but me, and let the chips fall where they may?”

Bleodswean -   You’ve lost 2 of the last 3 challenges.  What can Luzon be doing better?

Uselesstinrelic  -  What is Luzon’s pre-challenge process like this week?  More importantly, what do you think needs to change going into the next challenge?

Alycewilson -   You came really close to being voted out last time.  Why do you think you were targeted, and are you afraid that you might be next on the chopping block?

Adoptedwriter -   Not long before she was voted out, swirlsofpurple said about the prospect of  being down 1 person “It may even be advantageous in some ways.”   You are about to be down 2 people going into the next challenge.  Do you think it might be advantageous?

Murielle -    How much of what is being asked here ends up being discussed in the privacy of your camp first?  For all of the talk about everyone being friends regardless of tribes, both Luzon and Asaga broke off into their own private spaces pretty quickly.  Why do you think that is?  Is that something that is helpful or do you think that keeping things private could end up hardening that divide?

Bittyjane -   Last time you said that “I can only do what I can do, though, and see what happens from there.”  Is there a different plan coming into this vote?  Or do you think you’ve been doing enough to walk out of here with your torch lit for another week?

2 round of questions

Murielle -   You wrote about the literal smashing of your own head.  How are you feeling today?  Are my questions too much emotional heavy lifting? Is that why you avoid them?  What’s worse - the pain from the concussion or sitting here at tribal council, knowing that you are about to sacrifice one of your own?

Bittyjane -   What made you decide to go with the “Survivor themed” story?  Do you think production just left because they weren’t answering questions at tribal council?  Or is it more likely that they are filming them with stealth drones?

If you could raid anything from Asaga, what would it be?

Flipflop_diva -   “The first thing I thought of when I read the prompt was "Smash the patriarchy, grab your dreams" but it took a little bit longer for me to realize I had the perfect story for that in my own family.”  What was it that finally clicked in your head that you had the perfect story to tell right in front of you the entire time?  How did you decide on the format of the story, switching perspectives as you switched generations?   And, of course, how did Aline’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren continue that legacy of independence?   From a game perspective, the women far outnumber the men and non-binary contestants.  Does that make them easier to “smash”?

Alycewilson -  On the surface, you went literal with the smash and grab, which I found interesting.  Quite frankly, I was expecting a lot more people to go that route.  If they had, maybe yours wouldn’t have stood out as much.  But there is a different smashing going on as well,  the smashing of perceptions, thanks to the guidance of Miss Diaz.   I like how what seems straight forward ends up working on multiple levels.   Will this be your “this is how I learned how to survive tribal council” moment, and who do you think is going to be the member of your tribe that helps you the most in figuring out the next right move?

Uselesstinrelic-   Your comedic, narrative voice in this is strong.  What made you decide to break the fourth wall with that aside to the reader?  There’s one obvious one, but they are actually peppered through the piece at several points. Sort of a Bugs Bunny breaking from the action to look at the camera moment, which fit in well with the style.  But I’m curious about the mental process to get there.   Also, you correctly point out that you posted your entry late, which had I put the poll up right away instead of being distracted by life, would have put your tribe in a big hole.  You did well in the vote, but is that “you got lucky” deadline moment enough that you should be considered for elimination?  Or do you think your challenge performance up until this point has been enough that you should survive another week?

N3m3sis43 -  Over the years, I’ve seen a lot of entries about the trouble people are having writing their entries.  This certainly did that, but with the backdrop of the ADHD/PTSD.  I think the pacing of this was good, with the timestamps detailing where time was being stolen.  Were these the actual (estimated) time stamps of the real events or did you fictionalize the process?  You certainly did well with it with the voters, but do you think that it was as strong of a piece as it could have been? If you got those moments back, how would you make it better?

Bleodswean -  From the iconic first line, I knew that you were retelling Snow White.  But I didn’t know it would be from the Huntsman’s POV or where you were going with it.  My own mind kept thinking of this as a twist on the “Tell-Tale Heart”, with him tormented by the still-beating heart that “should have” been in the box, and a need to make it right.  Is this something you plan on revisiting, the “what happens next” or it is just a “Weekend at Bernies” situation until the Prince eventually catches up to them?   :)   What do you think are the important elements in a successful fairy tale/myth retelling?

Adoptedwriter -  What was it about the real life story of the field trip that made you combine it with the Survivor elements for this entry?   Do you think that you, and your friends, are

going to be able to unlock the mystery of how to not come back to tribal council next week?

Due to everything else happening right now ,  instead of a third round of questions for you to ignore, I’m going to ask this to everyone:

What is your criteria for who should be going home this week?

Is it someone who you think has the chance to not write as good of a piece next week, and thus hurt you in the challenges?

Is it someone who you aren’t sure where their loyalties lie, in the long term?

Will this vote just be completely random?

Will it be who you think is in league with trained monkeys who may or may not be infiltrating the island?

Will it be whoever wrote that note that got Asaga fired up, and that no one seems to want to acknowledge?

Just as important - why should the tribe keep YOU?  What are you bringing to Luzon that can help them?

Several of you have pointed out that the loss wasn’t by much. . .  But “not by much” is still a loss, and it still leads you to tribal council, where you have to vote someone out of this game.

With that, it’s time to vote.

Please send me an email (to clauderainsrm@gmail.com)  letting me know who you would like to vote out of the tribe.   If you have a hidden immunity idol, or any other special power, and would like to use it, that would also be the time to tell me.    The deadline to get me your vote is tomorrow, Saturday Nov 21st at 7pm ET

Or if not, I found this here at the voting urn. It's gotta be one, right?

[personal profile] swirlsofpurple  - come bring me your torch.
*snuffs torch*  The Tribe has spoken.

Head on down that path. There is a boat waiting to take you to Edge of Extinction, where you will join Jen to wait for your chance to rekindle that fire and get back into the game.

*turns back to the rest of the tribe*
Luzon clearly isn't on the same page at the moment.  But tomorrow is a new chapter to this story.  We will see how well you do turning the page, or if it turns out that you aren't even in the same book!!

Head on back to camp.  Good night.

Come on in Luzon.  Since it’s your first time here, grab your torch and approach the flame.   In this game, fire represents life.  When your fire is gone, so are you.

Welcome to Tribal Council.   I know you were hoping to avoid coming to see me here, and you very nearly succeeded again this week. But you fell just short in the Champions head to head to score that final point.

uselesstinrelic  - You stepped up in that role to represent your tribe.  What went into that decision?  Do you feel you let them down by not bringing that victory home?

bleodswean  - This is your tribe. You had the first pick that set this group in motion.  What made you pick murielle as your top choice?

murielle - The first pick of the game.  Do you think that you have lived up to that distinction, or is that pressure something you struggle with??  What have you been doing in the tribe to live up to that hype?

n3m3sis43  - Luzon won the first challenge, and ended up tying in the second.  Did you just catch a lucky break in that first challenge or now that Asaga is back up to full strength are you guys in trouble?

adoptedwriter  - What has been the most difficult part of this game for you so far?  The shelter leaking?  Bugs?  The pressure of competing in challenges?

flipflop_diva  - You’re here at tribal council, which means you’re going to have to vote someone out.  Is there anyone who isn’t pulling their weight in the challenges? Around camp?

bittyjane - How much are those previous relationships with members of Asaga on your mind right now?  Do you think it’s good to have a lot of friends on the other side, or is that something that can be seen as a liability?

alycewilson - You were able to observe how Asaga’s first tribal council went.  Does that make being here easier, or more difficult, knowing that, unlike them, there is no “easy” first boot?

swirlsofpurple  -   How does this tribe move forward into next week? What adjustments do you need to make knowing that they are about to have the numbers advantage?

Second round of questions

Alycewilson - Take me through the decision to write poetry this round.  Obviously, it’s something you’ve done before (You’re Shantipoet after all. It’s implied in the name itself) , but, as you’ve said, it hasn’t come out in the last few regular seasons of Idol.  What was it about this particular challenge that brought that out?  Has your poetry been reborn in the salt waters surrounding this island?

Flipflop_diva -  At what point did you decide on how to handle the “reveal” in your story?  All the pieces were there, but like a lot of people, for me, it was a realization that built slowly.  What was it about everyday “tortures” of being a kid that clicked in your head to connect to the prompt?    Do you think Luzon has the hope of morning after facing today’s cruel, cold reality?

Swirlofpurple - You also decided to write a poem.  Is there something about being stranded on an island that inspires poetry?  The Horror genre has always done well within Idol proper, but “horror poetry” is fairly rare, despite a long tradition in literature.  Are there particular challenges within the genre that make it difficult to pull off?  What “sickness” is within Luzon and can it be exorcised with this vote?

Murielle -  If telling stories are the language of relationships, what story do you think Luzon is telling? What is the story that they need to hear right now?  Do you think that the HMS Spector could be the same ship as swirlofpurple’s tale, sold, repainted and repurposed?   What do you feel the story of Elizabeth reveals about the nature of the men in the narrator’s life?

Uselesstinrelic  -  You are the only one in Luzon to produce two entries this week.  Did you deliberately tie them together with supernatural rules or was that coincidence? How important was it that one character was punished for thinking outside the box and the other spared? What fate do you think was actually worse - the torture of Malphas or what Micah does to survive?  You’re in a similar situation. You can be voted out, or you will be sacrificing someone else to save yourself. It’s not dismemberment or an eternity of positive affirmation while listening to “It’s a Small World,” but it’s still a sacrifice.  How do you weigh that, and once made, what can you do to convince others to replicate your vote?

Bittyjane  - What was it about the diary approach that you felt suited the story you wanted to tell? What came first - the idea or the format?  There’s a dark humor that melds well with the sense of place and time - how important is it to you to convey that tone shift?  There is someone sitting with you right now, here at tribal council, who you are having a  “lovely chat” with, and they have no idea what’s coming.   Or do you think that you are more likely to be Coral, trying to scratch and claw onto your life in this game?

N3m3sis43  -  Your entry captured the emotional keelhauling people around the world have taken at the hands of COVID. What was it about this particular prompt that brought the experience to mind, or is it more of a case of “what else is there to think about right now?”   You capture that slow dawning dread of the moments where “everything is fine” as things slip into the cold realities of the situation.  Which again, is a lot like where you are sitting right now.  Everyone is talking about how everything is fine - but for one of you, it’s not going to be.   What precautions are you taking to make sure that you don’t become that statistic?

Adoptedwriter -  The secret of a good magic trick is to distract people with what your other hand is doing.  The cards were all out on the table, but you still managed the misdirection.  That’s a skill that translates well to tribal council.  What do you have palmed, waiting for the reveal?   How important to you was it to add the inspiration, and commentary, about the real life event? Do you think that adds to the piece by opening up discussion and reminding people of just how real this is?  How much consideration was the visual spacing of this piece - with the spaced out sections of the actual story being followed by the densely packed commentary at the end?

Bleodswean - You’re known for being about to capture beauty amidst brutality, and this entry is certainly no exception.  It was already pointed out in the comments about the connection between human mother and the cow. But there is also a line going between the fate of the three children (human, calf and bird) at the hands of the true beast.   Did you feel that giving the Captain a history in the navy was needed to justify the use of keelhauling by mules or do you think that it may have worked just as well to allow the death to not have that connection?  As the tribe Captain, what  experience are you personally going to lean on to decide who is going to be dragged in the wake of Luzon? Will it be crushing someone’s fragile eggshell dreams, or the mercy killing of a calf unable to keep up?

Third, and final round of questions

Bleodswean  - Following that up, is there a certain beauty to the brutal process of elimination?  Where is the silver lining for Luzon?

Adoptedwriter -  You’ve talked about keeping perspective.  What perspective can you offer this group when it comes to making this decision?

N3m3sis43  - It’s been brought up that there were others who stepped forward to be the Champion, but that it was decided that uselesstinrelic would be the one to step into that role.  Who were those people?  Did you agree with the decision, and who ended up leading the charge of convincing everyone that it was the right choice?

Murielle  -  There’s been a lot of talk about “friendship and support”.  to me, that sounds like there’s one person who is about to get blindsided.  In a lot of ways, Asaga had it easy, there was someone who had personal reasons and needed to step away from the game.  I haven’t heard any talk of that here.   What are you basing your decision on?

Bittyjane  - You’ve mentioned how you’ve stepped out of your comfort zone to participate in group conversations.  How important do you think that is - for someone to be willing to step outside of what they might not normally do - for the good of the team?

Flipflop_diva - You said that Luzon had to  “believe we have the right people left to claim victory the next time”  Do you think you know the right combination of people to claim that victory?  How much conversation has been happening around camp on that subject?

Alycewilson -  Is there anything someone could say right now to guarantee that they were going to walk out of here tonight with their torch still lit?  Or do you think it’s already a done deal - that most people already know who they are voting for, and just don’t want to say it out loud?

Swirlsofpurple  -  When you vote someone out in this game, they go to the Edge of Extinction, where they have a shot at coming back. The ones who don’t re-enter the game, become a part of the Jury.  Given your theme this week, do you think that this vote tonight has the potential to come back to haunt you?

Uselesstinrelic  - You were the Champion, so I’m giving you the last word.  Any advice you’d like to give your tribe before they go vote?

Voting

It's time to vote.
Send me your vote - the one person you want to eliminate (and no, it can't be yourself) to clauderainsrm@gmail.com by 7pm ET tomorrow, Tuesday Nov 10th.

Thank you.  Per this parchment, you may now leave tribal council, safe from the vote.

Asaga got off to a promising start earlier this week -  but here we are. One of you is about to become the first person voted out of this game - and the first to experience life on the Edge of Extinction.

It’s been said that the only way you ever know where you stand in Survivor is when the votes are read.

If that’s true, we are about to find out quite a bit about what’s really going on with this tribe.

It’s time to vote.

Send your vote (the person you want to see eliminated) to clauderainsrm@gmail.com by Friday, October 30th at 5pm ET  NOTE:  You can not vote for yourself.

If anyone would like to play a hidden immunity idol,  or an advantage,  now would be the time to do so.  (contact me via the above email within the same time frame)

Come on in and grab your torch and approach the flame.

In this game, fire represents life. When your fire’s gone, so are you.

So, Asaga. I’ve got to admit, I’m surprised to see you here at the first tribal council. On paper, people would look at the people on your tribe and think, “That’s a powerhouse, they might run the tables.” But here we are. You weren’t just beat by a little bit. They were lighting their torches before you rounded that last corner.

Is there anyone here willing to say “I feel comfortable” in their position tonight?

[personal profile] wolfden - You’re the outsider here.  You weren’t selected for a tribe, and you are coming into this new situation with people you haven’t been living with.  Is that something that stings or do you just look at it as “Someone was going to be left out. It was me. It’s OK” and move on from there?

[personal profile] halfshellvenus  -On the other hand, you were the Captain, the person this tribe was built around. What sort of responsibility do you feel when your tribe loses?

[personal profile] jenwithapen -  You had the fewest number of votes this week. You weren’t able to turn in an entry due to a personal situation.  First of all - how is everything?  But as it relates to this game, does that make you the weakest member of this tribe, or are there other factors people should keep in mind?

[personal profile] eeyore_grrl -    You’ve been sitting out of Idol proper over on LJ.  Do you think that hurts you because the relationships aren’t as fresh, or does it help you because people are excited to see you?

[personal profile] gunwithoutmusic -  You had one of the better performances out there.  But it wasn’t enough. As we agreed on the mat, coming to tribal council is a horrible thing.  But it has the advantage that you get to test those bonds you’ve been forming out here.  How strong do you feel your relationships are right now? Are you feeling the heat?

[personal profile] impoetry - Skipper Brian,  was it that Asaga did something wrong this week or was Luzon just better?

[personal profile] lawchicky819 -   It was a rough start.  What do you think Asaga needs to do to go out and win next week?

[personal profile] megatronix  -   How bad does this loss sting?  I know you’ve been getting eaten alive out here with the mosquitoes.  Do you think that played into your not doing as well as you might have hoped?

[personal profile] minikin25  -   You’re sitting here, at the first tribal council - does this feel “real?”  I know that none of you pictured that this was where you were going to end up.  But it’s the situation you ended up with.  What do you think this group is lacking?

[personal profile] bsgsix - You had the most votes of anyone on this tribe, this week. Is that a relief because “people would be stupid to get rid of me” or are you exposing yourself early as a potential threat down the road? Is that even a concern this early in the game?

What about your actual entries?  Where do you think you were especially successful and where did you struggle? Did you learn anything from reading what everyone else put out this week - especially Luzon - and how is that going to impact your work moving forward?

wolfden - You not only decided to write this week, you chose to write about your experience on Exile Island.  What was behind that decision? Do you think it captured the emotions you were feeling out there?

minikin25-  What does that mean to you for people to talk about how much they connected with your description of “The Blah?”   Do you think that you were hurt by actually mentioning the prompt itself in your entry?  Was there a better way to weave it in?

bsgsix -  Was there a strategy to what you decided to write this week?  How much does that play into it?  You changed the ending to something more dramatic, but do you think this was a good entry point for people to learn more about you? How important is it for you to weave your personal narrative into the fabric of work?

jenwithapen - You didn’t end up producing anything this week.  But how involved with you with the group’s brainstorming before you had to step away?  Did you have anything specific in mind that you had wanted to write this week?

lawchicky819 - Given the results, do you wish you’d spent more time chatting about scouting?  What sort of practical skills are you bringing to this tribe?  Does having kids involved in so many different activities actually end up helping you when dealing with your tribemates?

eeyore_grrl-  How important is it for you to include a recording of you reading your poetry? How much does that factor into your process?  Other contestants are trying their hands at the form, but this is your wheelhouse. How do you think others did with it and can you offer any pointers?    Your search for warmth has led you here - in front of the roaring fire at tribal council - where, as you said, fire is your life.  Under those circumstances, do you wish you’d gone with different imagery?

gunwithoutmusic - What can you take from your hiking experience that translates to playing Survivor?  You are another one who posts a clip of you reading your work - how much do you think that helps people connect to your work?   Do you think the “don’t tell me how to live my life” reflective attitude is something that might get you in trouble when it comes to playing this game?

halfshellvenus -  You offered choices in your poem - but your own choice was going with the non-fiction or the poem. Do you think that you made the right one, or do you end up second guessing?  What spark do you think Asaga needs to end this particular night and come out stronger?

impoetry -   Skipper, what sort of “stupid stuff” do you have planned for this season?   What made you choose to go with poetry and why tell this particular story?  Is it because it’s fresh and you needed to get it out, or is there a relatability factor? A little of both?

megatronix  - What sort of interaction was there between your tribe about the prompt this week? Did you solicit advice?   What choices do you think await Asaga in the near future and do you think the tribe, as a whole, will be able to choose the correct path?  Whose voice do you hope to hear calling Asaga back to life?

The experience of Tribal Council comes is always an unique one.  But never more that the first one.  You're learning about each other, and the game itself.   You are trying to figure out who you can trust, and to what extent.  To make things more intense, you are doing it in public. In front of the other tribe, and the greater DW community.   This is something regular Survivors don't have to content with.

There is also the matter of the extra person here at tribal.  Usually, when someone is joining - the replace the member who has just left. In this case though, she's sitting with you.  What do you think that means, and how does that impact how you approach this vote?

wolfden - When you left for Exile Island, I handed you an envelope.  Has anyone been asking you about it?  When you got back, did you suddenly have lots of friends? Or was there tension?

megatronix - Has there been a lot of talk about that envelope and what it might mean for this tribal council?

lawchicky819 - In a standard Survivor game, you vote people out and they go away.  But with Edge of Extinction, someone you send out of the game might very well come back at the Merge. Beyond that, whoever you get rid of is still going to have the ability to vote in the Immunity Challenges. That changes the game.  How does that factor into your decision making and how you go about voting people out?

jenwithapen  Someone has to go. How would you feel if it was you tonight?

halfshellvenus - As you said, this isn’t a regular elimination.  You are going to play a hand in someone going home this week.  You are voting someone out of this tribe.  How does this play out in your head and what are you going to use to help you make this decision?

bsgsix -  Fairness is something that has been brought up already several times in this tribal council.  What role do you think “fairness” plays in the game of Survivor?  How is this game different from how you would live outside of the game, is that something you can even separate?

Eeyore_grrl  - You’ve indicated that you are scrambling to learn things about your tribemates.  What have you learned that might be helpful in forming those bonds? How big of a factor is this week’s vote in helping to forge those bonds?

Minikin25  - Do you think this elimination is going to make the tribe stronger in the long run?

Gunwithoutmusic - You’re on record as saying your two favorite Survivor players are Sandra and Pavarti.  Both of those women have reputations that have been misrepresented by Probst and repeated by fans over the years.  Sandra’s game has always been more than “anybody but me” and Parvat’s game is much more than “flirting.”  Both are actually quite social, but loyal to a core group of people. They stay that way as long as those bonds hold.   Have you found that core group of people or are you still in the discovery process?

Impoetry  - Skip, you get the final word.   In your years of experience going in circles, what do you think it’s going to take to steer Asaga in the right direction?  Is this tribal council the Inspiration Falls you need to go deep into this game?

The vote is taking place later today.  I’ll give you the details in a post when it’s time.
