Good morning Idolers!
Friend of Idol (and current contestant)
kathrynrose will be having a "Goal Setting Workshop" in the coming weeks http://kathrynrose.livejournal.com/847130.html has all the details.
If you want to step up your writing game (outside of Idol) and need assistance and coaching for starting your 2017 off on the right foot writing-wise, this should be a great opportunity to do so.
People who know her well already know that she's really good at this. But for those who don't - this is a chance to find out exactly *how* good. :)

While I'm advertising things - I'll just remind people to use Idol's Amazon link for their holiday purchases: http://astore.amazon.com/li0cd-20
and becoming a Patron has it's benefits: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=70027 (Including an extra bye - to give to someone else, and being able to send me a list of potential topics *for this season* (among others)
***
The deadline is TOMORROW NIGHT http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/958277.html and we are still missing the vast majority of entries. In true Idol-spirit, if given a longer period of time, people will still wait until the very last minute!

One of my cats tends to get that classic "hair standing up and hissing" reaction when someone starts messing with her. (the other is far more mellow)
It's an intimidation tactic that seems to work for her.
Which got me thinking about what sort of intimidation tactics I've used over the years, to get people to stay away from me.
I know that in middle school and early on in high school I established myself as "that crazy guy". After getting picked on and bullied for quite some time in elementary and middle school due to being a stutterer I realized that if people think that you might not be "completely right in the head" that they tend to overlook things like "that guy doesn't talk right" and concentrate more on "that guy's crazy. Who knows what he might do. I'll go pick on someone else instead".
It was a more subtle form of social camouflage, but it put me in a position where (other an a couple times in 9th grade, I didn't have to get into any more fights and people - for the most part - left me alone.)
It's not as blatant as making someone think that I was going to hit them with a baseball. But it's still was MY way of "brushing them back". What's yours?
(and yes, this is totally me trying to motivate people who haven't posted yet)

Date: 2016-12-14 03:43 pm (UTC)This comment is about the Survivor Finale. I'm excited for it. Anyone else? Who do you want to win? Who do you think will win? From six to three (?) to one tonight. Sounds like a crazy double play.
My next statement will be a spoiler if you're not caught up.
I kinda want Ken to win. Maybe Adam. But I think David will win or has the best shot.
Sorry! I just figured since LJ Idol votes people off like Survivor, there would be other fans!

Date: 2016-12-14 03:52 pm (UTC)It's your space. Talk about what you want to talk about. (unless you're directing people to go check out other groups, in which case you just need to get prior permission. :D)
I just throw things out to try to get folks talking about *something*.

Date: 2016-12-14 03:56 pm (UTC)MY guess for the Legacy Advantage is that it's either (1) an advantage in the final challenge OR (2) an automatic spot in the final three. The latter would make it a *huge* advantage (although might might it tougher to win.But it would be interesting)
It's funny, because I don't really have a good read on the winner this season.I think they all have a pretty good shot.
I *don't* want Jay. Just because I find him annoying. But I can say the same about most of the others at various points this season. ;)
Bret winning would crack me up. (I'm not a fan of the "you need to make BIG MOVES" school that Probst has been pushing the last few years)

Date: 2016-12-14 04:41 pm (UTC)I want Adam or Hannah to win (Hannah won't win, but she looks exactly like one of my friends so I have to root for her. lol)
I don't want Jay to win, but I feel like if he does, I can't say he won't deserve it (since I figure to get there he'll have to win at least something else or make some kind of move, since he's still a bit on the outside).
I think David has a good chance of winning. I think Ken could make a good case for himself to win, but he's not as Survivor savvy as the others, so I'm not sure he will and that could cost him.
Brett I don't really see him winning, but he does have friends on the jury.
Honestly, though, I really, really, really am loving this season! It's the first time in a long time I feel like going into the finale that everyone who is there is actually a gamer and I wouldn't be horrified if any of them won. Even Jay. Heh.
And have you seen the cast of Season 34? I don't think I can wait till March.
And, yeah, I can talk about Survivor a lot .... Sorry :)

Date: 2016-12-14 06:05 pm (UTC)Yep. I'm really nervous for one of my personal favorites. She *should NOT* be ruining her record by coming back. Because all she is going to do is have a long paid vacation in the pre-jury. No one is going to let her anywhere near that final tribal.

Date: 2016-12-14 06:21 pm (UTC)I love her, too, though. And Parvati is probably my all-time favorite player, so Heroes vs Villains is definitely one of my favorite seasons for the two of them alone!
But yeah, I can't see her making it far this time around. There are a lot of really savvy, smart people on the cast and there is no way they are letting her making it to the finals again.

Date: 2016-12-14 11:36 pm (UTC)So, I get it now.
Though it's supposed to be a season of game changers, so I will disappointed if there are no crazy shenanigans xD

Date: 2016-12-14 07:15 pm (UTC)He hasn't been able to see past the Cook Islands version of a flirt. I hated her that season and went "WHY?" when she was brought back for Micronesia. She showed me why. (Which btw - because I don't have my sheet up, were you around when Kathy Sleckman showed up here as a Gatekeeper? That was a proud moment for me!)
Granted, she won Micronesia because of a last minute change - due to all the injuries that made production change it from a final three to a final two. If Cirie gets to that jury - *which is what their plan at been* - she smokes all of them.
In HvV, she didn't do enough to get away from Russell, even when it was apparent that no one respected the guy. Sure, that's the goat you *want* to be sitting next to - one of the best to EVER sit against. But she just didn't see that this wasn't a jury that was going to respect that move, and you need to read the room. (still *almost* won it. So can't give her too much flack... and she knew if Jerri made it there, she would sweep...)

Date: 2016-12-14 07:23 pm (UTC)If Jay gets to the finals, I think he wins.
Adam - he could at least make a case for himself and his story is going to tug on some heart strings (the fact that his Mom ended up dying after he got back, but before the show started airing - wow, that's heartbreaking)
I'm enjoying the season. I started out really not liking the concept and the first couple episodes felt *rough* to me (I was also finishing up the amazing Australian Survivor at the time though, so I'm sure that factored in) But it's gotten better with every episode.
I'd be happy with anyone but Jay.
Even Bret. The guy is a legitimate real life hero, and I think if he gets to the finale he's a lot more dangerous than anyone gives him credit for being.

Date: 2016-12-14 07:38 pm (UTC)On one hand - it's kind of a big deal.
On the other - it's kind of a big deal that Survivor has treated it without any fanfare, as if people were just people.

Date: 2016-12-14 08:51 pm (UTC)(I'm blaming Big Brother OTT for not knowing this. I was watching too much of that in the beginning of the season, and not paying as close of attention to Survivor as I should have!)
