Good morning Idolers!

Friend of Idol (and current contestant) [livejournal.com profile] kathrynrose will be having a "Goal Setting Workshop" in the coming weeks http://kathrynrose.livejournal.com/847130.html has all the details.

If you want to step up your writing game (outside of Idol) and need assistance and coaching for starting your 2017 off on the right foot writing-wise, this should be a great opportunity to do so.

People who know her well already know that she's really good at this. But for those who don't - this is a chance to find out exactly *how* good. :)

***

While I'm advertising things - I'll just remind people to use Idol's Amazon link for their holiday purchases: http://astore.amazon.com/li0cd-20

and becoming a Patron has it's benefits: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=70027 (Including an extra bye - to give to someone else, and being able to send me a list of potential topics *for this season* (among others)

***

The deadline is TOMORROW NIGHT http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/958277.html and we are still missing the vast majority of entries. In true Idol-spirit, if given a longer period of time, people will still wait until the very last minute!

***

One of my cats tends to get that classic "hair standing up and hissing" reaction when someone starts messing with her. (the other is far more mellow)

It's an intimidation tactic that seems to work for her.

Which got me thinking about what sort of intimidation tactics I've used over the years, to get people to stay away from me.

I know that in middle school and early on in high school I established myself as "that crazy guy". After getting picked on and bullied for quite some time in elementary and middle school due to being a stutterer I realized that if people think that you might not be "completely right in the head" that they tend to overlook things like "that guy doesn't talk right" and concentrate more on "that guy's crazy. Who knows what he might do. I'll go pick on someone else instead".

It was a more subtle form of social camouflage, but it put me in a position where (other an a couple times in 9th grade, I didn't have to get into any more fights and people - for the most part - left me alone.)

It's not as blatant as making someone think that I was going to hit them with a baseball. But it's still was MY way of "brushing them back". What's yours?

(and yes, this is totally me trying to motivate people who haven't posted yet)

First! I've been able to read some of the entries posted so far, and there are some real treats. Our cat couldn't intimidate anything. Mostly, she eats and harasses teenson for pets.

Thanks Gary! And folks can use the workshop for any area of life, including writing. It's completely adaptable. :)

Intimidating? I'm not intimidating at all. Meek and docile am I. :P

I'm completely going off topic, sorry.

This comment is about the Survivor Finale. I'm excited for it. Anyone else? Who do you want to win? Who do you think will win? From six to three (?) to one tonight. Sounds like a crazy double play.

My next statement will be a spoiler if you're not caught up.

I kinda want Ken to win. Maybe Adam. But I think David will win or has the best shot.

Sorry! I just figured since LJ Idol votes people off like Survivor, there would be other fans!

Gaaaahhh Survivor! My favorite!

I want Adam or Hannah to win (Hannah won't win, but she looks exactly like one of my friends so I have to root for her. lol)

I don't want Jay to win, but I feel like if he does, I can't say he won't deserve it (since I figure to get there he'll have to win at least something else or make some kind of move, since he's still a bit on the outside).

I think David has a good chance of winning. I think Ken could make a good case for himself to win, but he's not as Survivor savvy as the others, so I'm not sure he will and that could cost him.

Brett I don't really see him winning, but he does have friends on the jury.

Honestly, though, I really, really, really am loving this season! It's the first time in a long time I feel like going into the finale that everyone who is there is actually a gamer and I wouldn't be horrified if any of them won. Even Jay. Heh.

And have you seen the cast of Season 34? I don't think I can wait till March.

And, yeah, I can talk about Survivor a lot .... Sorry :)

Oh my gosh, yes, I totally agree. I was shocked when I saw her name on the new cast list. I don't know why she'd want to do it again. Just stay perfect and let everyone else try to do what you've done.

I love her, too, though. And Parvati is probably my all-time favorite player, so Heroes vs Villains is definitely one of my favorite seasons for the two of them alone!

But yeah, I can't see her making it far this time around. There are a lot of really savvy, smart people on the cast and there is no way they are letting her making it to the finals again.

You know, I used to judge the jurors that voted that way, even when someone else clearly played better. But then this past season of Big Brother, they let America vote for the winner, and it came down to someone I really liked and who had played well vs someone who I thought played slightly better but was such a vile, nasty person. And I just couldn't vote to give someone money who was that horrible.

So, I get it now.

Though it's supposed to be a season of game changers, so I will disappointed if there are no crazy shenanigans xD

Wait. There was a transgender castaway? How did I not know that! That's awesome! Who was it?

(I'm blaming Big Brother OTT for not knowing this. I was watching too much of that in the beginning of the season, and not paying as close of attention to Survivor as I should have!)

I think Hannah would have a better case to win if she got rid of David last week. I didn't like them getting rid of Sunday. She had no chance of winning. In my opinion, Hannah working for votes to get out Sunday was her way of playing for second or third place.

I guess I understand that Sunday was likely to go to the end because she wasn't going to win. But, you have to play to win.

I don't know anything about next season! What is it? Any people returning?

YES! I have to know! There are a few people I'd love to see back.

I think that's because it was supposed to be a theme of winners/runner's up vs early boots, and that didn't pan out. I am psyched for next season though.. and I LOVED this season. Casting has been out-of-the-park good lately.

I'm praying for another Know It Alls live in NYC (and that I find out early enough to get tickets again). It has become one of my favorite things. And now I can say I met the winner of this season, and Zeke, who absolutely lights up a room BTW.

I'm still on a Survivor finale high at the moment, can you tell?

Thank you! I'm excited.

There are three past players I've been wanting to come back and have an alliance, or a three way "Bromance." Too bad only one of them is returning!

I agree. Personally, I was happy they voted out Sunday, but that's because Sunday was the only person left I didn't want in the finale. (Not because she was horrible or anything, but compared to everyone else, she was the only one not at least trying to make moves.) But yeah, I'm not sure for Hannah how helpful that was, except to say she convinced everyone to do it.

I think Hannah has a good chance of making it to final 3 but I think the guys have a better chance of winning.

I did not know that about her! Ugh. I'm much happier about her being voted off now.

Oh wow. I did not know that about Sunday. I didn't like her anyway, but yikes.

I'm totally with you that I don't think you necessarily need to make big moves to win Survivor, but I feel like this season, the contestants all think you need to, and Hannah hasn't. (She did have people draw rocks for her and play an idol for her, so she could use that, but I still don't think it would be enough.)

And it's all about perception, as you also said. Like how they somehow all perceive David as this huge threat and Adam as not one — while as a viewer I totally feel the opposite.

It's going to be interesting what happens. I honestly have no idea who's going to win, and normally I usually have some sort of feeling!

Thank you, Fearless Leader!

I have been in the doldrums since the very beginning of this topic week because...argh! It's not that I didn't have ideas, I had quite a few, but they all stank. Bad. Skunk stink bad. And though I have never actually smelled skunk stink, all my life I have heard how awfully bad it is ( although, I have also heard it's smells a bit like marijuana, and some people actually like the smell--of skunk. There must be many people who like the smell of marijuana--thank you spellchecker!--because, well there seem to be a lot of people who use it. I don't like that smell. Not to be offensive, I just don't, but then I don't like beer either. I don't mind the smell of beer, just can't stand the taste)...where was I? Oh yeah. Thank you! You gave me an idea I think might work. I hope might work. Off to try it. Mucho merci!

Can you believe I have only been to three rock--are they still called that--conserts in my life? In the seventies I went to a Bee Gees concert. In the eighties went to a Billy Idol concert. In the nineties, Dire Straits. No smells in the first. Guys in front of us were smoking grass in the second. For the third we were way up in the nosebleed section all by ourselves there could have been a meth lab down there and we'd never known. (Laughs)

The shocker here is that you've never smelled skunk spray before. It is vile, but distinctive!

I have been at my parent's house since last Friday literally watching my Dad die. I have a decent idea for week 3, just haven't had a computer screen in front of me to write it. And I *will not* write on my phone... nope nope nope.

Kathryn, I think I would like to join your group and actually try to write the novel that has kicked around in my head for about a million years. Or even some edited fanfiction ala 50 shades style.

My cat is not intimidating until you back him into a corner or try to give him a bath! He takes medicine well, but no water of any quantity near him! I think he even flinches when I pour water in his bowl. Lol
