The poll is still up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/956559.html So make sure to get over there and give some love.

Who needs more of it? I'm sure there are entries where you are looking at the current results and saying "Wow - they deserve more attention!" Well, now is a good time to point people to them! Far better than waiting until they are eliminated!

***

We started cleaning out the attic last night. Which is funny, because all of it is from back when Cynthia was married to her ex, so there are a lot of their memories - and by "memories" I mean lots of random papers thrown into a box accompanied by boxes of computer disks which I'm sure contain *lots of really, really important data* that were thrown into a box and put into the attic back in the '90s! :)

There's a lot more to dig through though, so who knows what other important things are going to appear.

What's in *your* attic right now?

Heck, we can even get a bit meta with this, and what is in your creative/emotional attic, and do you really still need it?

We don't have an attic in our apartment, but there is a ceiling storage unit that holds all the boots that we don't use in the current season as well as the New Year tree toys and some boxes with other stuff that gets used so rarely I don't even know what it is.

Not going to look at the polls *sings a tune and stuffs fingers in her years*.

Going to write a promotion entry first thing tomorrow though, for what it's worth. Some of my LJ friends read some of the entries I list sometimes, but I doubt people who are not now or were not once competitors ever vote.

Good morning! I'm waiting for the rain to stop so I can walk The Boyz.

When I do sell this house it's going to take a millennium to clean it out, given that I not only inherited everything from my parents but also my grandparents but also stuff from my husband's storage locker which includes piles of his high school/uni clothing which he hasn't been able to fit into since the Bronze Era.

I will say straight up that it's difficult being the offspring of/wife of those who are sentimental enough to hang onto stuff that's no longer useful.

It's even more difficult to dispose of what YOU consider to be no longer useful when you are constantly met with opposition. With my parents, it was the result of growing up during the Great Depression when you didn't dare toss anything. With my husband it's more psychological, and I'll leave it at that. With me, it's resenting being the "dump-ee" and not wanting to invoke confrontation; I leave everything be as a result.

My attic is wasted space. My actual house attic, that is. Just a bunch of insulation up there. ( My basement is another story). Lol.

If I had an attic there would be bats. As in, belfry.

Crazy day ahead.

My grandma never let things go. My parents too. I grew up with all of them. Things aren't as sentimental to me but there are somethings I want to keep. Heirloom things like my grandma's depression glass and Silly things like my dad's warm winter socks (which I wore the other day - he died 26 years ago).

Our attic is targeted for storage once Boyfriend finishes insulating since...it really wasn't. So right now there's just dust and spiders, which is pretty much the same as my creative attic some days, haha.

My attic has the air handling unit for upstairs. Otherwise, it just has holiday decorations. I stash other things in other places.

I tend to hold things. Chris tends to be less attached. So, in that way we balance each other out. Although, when he was a little boy he asked his grandma for her "cats." After she died, 9 or 10 or her ceramic cats came to live with us - she left him all of them in her will. His mother swiped a couple (because of course she did).

I have stuff that is family heirloom but mostly I keep it out because what is the point of having it if you leave it packed away.

My parents are hoarders, too, and I dislike the clutter.

So I ended up dividing things into "theirs" (do not touch) mine (throw away regularly) and those in "usufruit" (meaning I buy them to be used by everyone, but "keep" the right to throw them away when I think it's time).

There are things I want to keep, too, but they're a handful compared to the entire morass.she'

After my mother passed I was going through her wardrobe deciding what to keep vs.donate. Most of it ended up in the donate pile. When my husband saw it he went nuts trying to convince me that I *shouldn't* donate X or Y because she'd either had something for a very long time or it was something I'd bought for her. Finally I shot back, "If I'm NOT going to wear/use it, then what's the point of keeping it? And she's MY mother, not yours." Gah, not one of our finest hours.

I've got things mentally divided like this too -- I don't touch my husband's things, for example, even though they're scattered like the wind. He, in turn, doesn't touch what's left of my mother's things nor does he touch mine. The stuff we both use is replenished by either of us when it's running out.

I moved into my house two months ago and have never been in the attic. I've been told that it's "wonky shaped" and "incredibly well insulated - like OMG so much insulation" - but at the moment, it's empty (unless there are ghosts or other pests up there).

As the stuff that would normally be in "storage" is currently still in the "box room," it will not stay empty. LOL. I'm pacing myself.

Yeh. I understand.

My friend made her brother's shirts into baby quilts for his daughter's children. There's places that will make a favorite shirt into a stuff bear or a pillow.

The socks I wear (sparingly because I don't want to wear them out) were one of the first presents I bought my dad that I picked out myself and bought with my own money. He also wore them only on cold days. Honestly, I go to them when it is really cold in the house or when I am having a really bad day.

I'm not really following the conversational theme right now. I just have to say that FINALS WEEK IS OVER and I wanted to share my joy/relief!! I'm a mere one semester away from becoming certified as a junior laboratory science tech. I'll be doing an externship and just one last class next quarter and then I'll be able to get a job. (This also means that I'm going to bust my butt reading today to try to get in on this vote/intermittently do the same on lingering housechores that have taken a back seat while going through finals.)

This will be my first job outside the home in over 10 years. I've been a self-employed artist all this time and my domestic partner is about to finish year 2 of school. It's been a tight few years but as much as I liked being an artist, I'm definitely going to like being financially self sufficient.

Plus: Lab coat.

There's a white collar fic in my story attic. I started writing it in 2010. When people ask me about my other years old WIPs I usually say, yeah there's no chance of it being updated. But with this one I'm still all, yeah the next chapter is coming...any day now...it's only been a few years.

I have no idea what's in my actual attic. I don't think I've ever been up there.

Ever since I was a child, someone has been spreading rumors that I perform fiendish experiments upon innocent baby kangaroos in my attic... which is patently false, as I've never lived in a house which had an attic!

Admittedly, I *DO* perform horrific experiments on fertilized platypus eggs in my basement, but that's a whole different kettle of fish...

I would say "creatures" (mice or rats), but they're actually between the floors, not in the attic.

That we know of.

Never been in the actual attic of our house, though someone did go up there once when we had a yellow-jacket infestation. I'm afraid of attics in California-- it seems like exactly the kind of place black widows might hang out. Can't do much about the garage and fences (other hangouts), but at least I can choose not to go into the attic!

Oh, man. I have so many WIPs in my story attic. A bunch of Die Hard 4 stories, Supernatural, some Prison Break, one or two White Collars, maybe a Justified story.

I grabbed onto one stalled-out WIP for Yuletide (no real prompt), then thought about another that I loved so much more, then it died again and I'm back to the first one.

I've got a few snippets of beginnings of rejected things mostly started for Idol that seemed like they could be a slightly different interesting story.

I try not to let the actual garage or storeroom get that way. At least, not too much.

We visited my Aunt and Uncle a couple of weeks ago (I'm the Executor of their estate) to look over some workshop areas/barns/etc. that will need to eventually be cleaned out. *cries* It just made me feel so tired. They're Depression-era folks, so they hang onto everything. My mom is kind of similar, though moving so many times has let at least a few things fall away.

How does a guy who lives in the U.S. get ahold of so many illicit Down Under creatures?

Please tell me emo_snal is not your supplier. That would break my faith in all things snal!

Platypus eggs... wonder if you could tamper with them to make a duck or a beaver isolate from the rest of the critter?

Ooh we've got fandoms in common. That's a lot of fics. I mostly ignore the existence of many of my fics that I never finished, mainly white collar and vampire diaries and supernatural.

I also have entire hundred page long documents that are bits and pieces of fics, never formed into actual fics.

Eep that sounds like a lot of stuff, may the clearing go smoothly.

I'm very much a hoarder myself.

My attic is mostly empty. I believe the landlord uses part of the attic for storage, but that was negotiated in the rental agreement, so I don't go poking about.

I think there's a box of Christmas lights up there (haven't gotten the tree up yet), but that's about it. I don't tend to hang on to stuff.
