Green Room Week 4 Day 3
Nov. 28th, 2007 07:52 amGood morning.
So have you guys read any particularly good entries lately?
I ask that to highlight the backlash against recommendation lists posted along with the "vote for me" posts that some people do.
It's fascinating to see how these things evolve and what a very personal choice that is. How people handle the voting aspect is as important as any other aspect of the game - and this is, as I'm sure most of you have figured out by now, a *very* social game. It's "LJ" Idol for a reason, every little aspect of blogging on Livejournal comes into play and it's how you manage to handle it that brings people out ahead of the curve. At least that's my opinion... of course I'm right.*g*
Anyone looking for an official "yes or no" on suggesting other people - the answer is, it's entirely up to you. I have no problem with people who want to do it. I have no problem with people who don't like it. If it's the same people week after week, well if someone wanted to say that was an alliance, well, would they be wrong?*G*
On a sidenote - but somewhat related - I was having a conversation the other day and someone pointed out all the people they knew in person from their LJ. It got me thinking of here, and wondering, for my own curiosity, how many people actually had met in person. Especially in light of some talk of how there should be some sort of meet-up thing down the road at some point.
So here's my list. It just includes people that I've met in person. All but one I've actually spent some time with, the last one on list being that one that I met during the tour last summer and met at a group meet-up dinner.

(oddly enough they are in order of Tribe, but after looking at the list, it's also in order of "How Long I've known them" from longest to shortest amount of time!)

I have really liked all the entries I had read so far. There have been a few on education related things that really hit a cord with me as I that is what I am getting my degree in.
Overall though, the two that really stick out in my head are:

As for the number of people that I've actually met from LJ Idol (including Gary):
Of course, that's a very small number in comparison with the people that were on my flist before starting the competition and the people that I have an overwhelming desire to meet.
As for entries that I'm truly enjoying - the immediate ones that come to mind are

Date: 2007-11-28 01:24 pm (UTC)As for entries, I haven't read any. I'm in the race to finish up NaNo and all my free time after that I'm pouring over the news with an extra vigor trying to decide what to write for my entry this week.
Last week I made the mistake of not using the spreadsheet. I plan to figure out how to ustalize this great tool, because I just could not remember come voting time which entries I wanted to vote for. Bad Ozma!
I do know that I think that pretty much everyone that got involved with Idol this season is amazing, talented, and awesome beyond belief. I feel completely out of my league! I look forward to what people will do with this topic!

Date: 2007-11-28 01:25 pm (UTC)Just off the top of my head, and because I have to get ready for work and am already running late, here are 4 who I have been really enjoying every week:
There are definitely more, but, like I said, time for slaving away at the candy factory! :^P

Date: 2007-11-28 01:26 pm (UTC)Even more interesting are those that are about the same news article but totally different actions and reactions to the same news.
I have met a number of people from LJ esp. those who come to conventions. It is interesting putting a face to a handle.

I've liked a few entries so far, but will reservemy comments for now.
Hope to get in here more often but wanted to say hi and let all know I'm enjoying reading and getting to know some people better!

Date: 2007-11-28 01:32 pm (UTC)Oh, and there is this pesky "writing thing" I want to work on before tomorrow, as I will not be around much the next couple of days.
But, feel free to carry on without me (if you can) and I will catch up if possible.
[PS: Alliances and vote trading (help me keep X and I will help you keep Y) are a great way to get to know other people. But I draw the line at begging]
[PPS: If you want to know who *I* know in real life, drop me a note.]

Date: 2007-11-28 01:34 pm (UTC)but meeting me would be confusing...(plus you'd have to meet my headmate first and although she joined the community she's not participating this season).
Just being jealous..*s*...
Grr...still trying to figure out what I'm going to write about this week...damn Gary you!! you keep throwing in the bloody monkey wrenches!!!

Date: 2007-11-28 02:06 pm (UTC)It's only 9:00 and I already want to go back home. Think I can make it through the day? Without falling asleep on/under/in front of my desk? =D
I've liked most of the entries that I've read so far. And (drum roll please) I've found a couple of articles that I can use. =D I'll get going on that shortly, since I have nothing else to do this morning!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Date: 2007-11-28 02:27 pm (UTC)Mert_mt_bc actually lives right here in my small town. We met a couple years ago on Babycenter.com's "August 06" mommy forum because we both had a baby due then. However, we have never actually met in real life!! I don't know how that's possible, we keep saying we should have a play date and our boys are both 15 months old now, but, busy schedules and all, it just hasn't happened.
I only registered on here a couple months ago, because several of my work friends said they loved it, so I had a really short flist with justthem and very few others before starting LJIdol. This has been awesome for finding amazing new people and more great blogs to peruse!
Seeing so many people who have met at Cons, I am jealous! I hope next year at Dragon*Con I can meet a few more LJ'ers face to face! Is there an event for us?
As for this week's topic...I don't know! There are so many angles to take this from and I am having a terrible time deciding what to do. I've been contemplating since yesterday afternoon and still have nothing that makes me feel definite.
I'm ready to write, but it will probably be tonight before I get on it. My chir'runs don't like mommy to spend too much time at her desk or they start destroying the house.

Date: 2007-11-28 02:27 pm (UTC)I skipped work there last night and didn't even bother calling in. I just can't handle the stress of two jobs anymore.
In other news: I woke up to a "puppy present" on the bed this morning. :^(
