The voting is happening now: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/769027.html

as in RIGHT NOW, as in "I hope you are reading them, because there's some good stuff out there!"

So hide your watch for Robin Williams, and learn how to whistle for Lauren Bacall - and then get on over there and read!

Read anything you want to tell the world about?

How about your own piece? What were you particularly happy about with how it turned out?

FIRST??

I was very happy with how my piece turned out this week - I think I took it in a less-than-expected direction and did it pretty well. But the poll always "scares" me, just because one never knows!

Word! I knew my Tuesday was going to be awfully busy, since we had our initial Bowling League meeting right after work, and I didn't get out of that until almost exactly 8:00 pm.

(Seriously, 1-1/2 hours to discuss and vote on league rules... and it's almost all the same as *last* season, and the season before that...)

So I had to stay up until around 2:00 AM to get my entry finished, polished up, and posted, since I knew I couldn't update my journal from work (commenting works, but not updating), and wouldn't be able to do it after work!

Sleepy Ro is *still* Sleepy!

It's interesting...if I write something that, for some reason, I view as "difficult" and wonder out loud why it's "difficult", I receive some amazing, insightful responses. I read them, digest them, reply to them, then mull over everything that's been said.

...um, yeah. I was going to say something else but I'm going to get into this whole wibbly-wobbly Dizzy Kizzy thing if I do say it. Because, of course, this GR is not about me.

I'm going to get dressed.

I was out of town from Thursday morning through Monday night! So I was completely prepared to take a bye if I had to. I'm glad I didn't have to, though. :D

*yawns*

I'm sleepy, too.

Which reminds me of one good thing: One of the smaller cable networks in our area airs reruns of the Tenth Doctor every weekend! I know I didn't see all of the episodes, but I thought I'd seen most of them. Then something comes on and I'm like, "WTF?!? I don't remember this at all!"

I have actually learned a few things in "training" today. And fixed a couple of errors in project setups. Woot!

On the bright side, an unexpected box arrived, and I haven't fallen asleep, so yay!

I'm still really ! about a lot of what ended up on my rec list (http://kickthehobbit.livejournal.com/681210.html). [livejournal.com profile] icaruslived, in particular—but how can you not love something written by an Angry Linguist that's got lines like this:

Their society ended up being very different from ours.

For one thing, they never had anything remotely like Twitter.

As far as my own entry...[insert dark laughter here]

I hammered it out yesterday. Many thanks, yet again, to [livejournal.com profile] lrig_rorrim for beta'ing (still can't believe I forgot to put in a note about that!) and [livejournal.com profile] talonkarrde88 for doing a pre-read even though it was full of HTML markup, pointing out typos, and telling me that it wasn't awful. :x

Honestly, I'm happy that I got a piece out at all, and I'm fond of a couple of the lines in it. I was fully expecting that I was going to have to take a bye, and I'm still shocked that I got something out in time. :)

I'm glad you got a piece in, too. :) Yay you!

I keep telling myself that one of these weeks I will take my remaining bye. I held onto it for a reason, damnit.

Except every time I tell myself, "Well, I can just take a bye..." that's when I end up sitting down and writing an entry. Even if I didn't know what the content of said entry would be, yet! It's a terrible "problem," that. Sometimes I just wanna take a break. =p

My piece is crap this week, and therefore I know I'm likely to get voted out... but as I've used up all my Byes, if I didn't submit anything this week then I'd absolutely be out of LJI. Better a slim chance as opposed to no chance at all... Right?

Date: 2014-08-13 05:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] theun4givables.livejournal.com
Shhhh. Being eliminated is not a "break." Heck, I think I homegamed just about every week after I got eliminated in S8. I wasn't ready to leave, yet. ;)

I suspect the same will happen when I get booted from Idol for my fourth time! lol (I just hope it's not for a while yet). Though truthfully, I probably should have byed last week -- I was in the middle of a 7 day work week when the topic went up, and when it was due. And moving.

It was a very long week, lol.

I thought I'd be taking a bye this week until that idea came to me, so I'm pleased with that-- and I like how it turned out. Crack is its own reward!

I might be almost a third through the reading, which isn't as far as I'd like. So, back to that!

Hey there
I felt I took a risk in my entry talking about gun issues. I was worried about getting cornered in a political debate about right and wrong, and thankfully that hasn't happened. Guess I made my thoughts clear enough to .." Dodge that bullet"...!

In other news... Please y'll do The Job Dance for me and Fuzzy1. I got a new Zumba gig finally. I have a school interview tomorrow. Fuzzy1 is trying for a medical asst job now that her Associate's degree is official. Byes! I have another graduate!

I'm just glad I finished the damn thing. My birthday was the eleventh and I hate birthdays (who actually likes them?), so I've spent the past week drunk and depressed and in a sulk.

Aside from that, I wrote about the Sterling Memorial Library in New Haven which I miss a lot. I used to live in New Haven when I was a teenager and I'd break into the library once or twice a day ... well, that's strong language, I just happened to know that if you took the right path you'd find a door into the stacks that was usually unlocked ... and I thought restricting a library of that size to the public was immoral, so I just decided to come in on my own. I liked being in there, I was almost never anyplace else. It's based a little bit on how they lost a copy of a Russian book that I wanted to read, it wasn't where it should have been filed, but I went and got it myself, I happened to know where I saw it on the shelf because I knew the Slavic section so well. (It wasn't as old as the one in my story, I would never touch a book like that without some training and permission. I have no idea where Sterling keeps their rare and valuable books in reality.)

(Also, it's got some lesbians. I never write any lesbians and now that [livejournal.com profile] banyangirl1832's moonshiner girls are gone we need a stopgap. *frowns*)

I was reading at McSweeny's Internet Tendency and they had a list of grammar jokes in bars. This one seemed particularly appropriate to this week in Idol:

Two quotation marks “walk into” a bar.

I finished reading! [livejournal.com profile] hosticle_fifer made me laugh out loud (AGAIN. This is some kind of record (no it isn't)), and I really empathized with [livejournal.com profile] n3m3sis43's "writing" a "novel". Hooo boy, that's familiar. There were lots of other things I liked this week, both those are the ones sticking in my head right now. :)

As for my own piece... well, I'm happy I managed to write a thing. I was pretty sure I wouldn't manage this week. I think I managed to set an atmosphere pretty well.

OMG, I loved [livejournal.com profile] hosticle_fifer's. He wins at the Internets this week. And thank you for the rec. <3

Oh, boy. I feel you on the "happy I managed to write a thing." I was pretty sure it wasn't going to happen this week for me, either. I haven't gotten down the list to your piece yet, but I'm sure you did set an atmosphere pretty well. You have a knack for that. :)

He's just so good at humor. Now that Our Lady of Ridiculous Giggles [livejournal.com profile] porn_this_way is out, he's my go-to source for the laughs.

I think this was a hard week / hard prompt for a lot of people. I saw that halfshellvenus was another "wow did I manage to write a thing?" person this week, too.

At least there were no sacrifices this week! None that were posted anyway. :)

I had such a hard time coming up with a topic, and then one came to me that I wished didnt! I honestly thought it would be the one that did me in, because I don't typically write on any current events and it was pretty close to home. It was really therapeutic to write on a day that was already hard, then made harder by sad news. I felt really detached that whole night.

Didn't really read anything other than a fascinating piece on how Corey Kluber was quietly become a dominant pitcher in MLB.

My own piece? I love it....i just hope everyone else loves it. I could've gone on and one with a few more quotes, but I felt it was getting quite lengthy and no one wants to read a novel for an entry.

To be honest, I don't even know how I got something in for Terrible Beauty. Pure determination, I guess. This week's entry might be the same way (4+ day stretch started Wednesday night, don't know what I'm scheduled next week, yet, but I bet it's at least Monday-Wednesday. Because that's how management rolls).
