They aren't just for Robot Boy any more!*g*
This is the very FIRST EVER LJ IDOL GOLD STAR AWARDS!
What IS a Gold Star? Well folks watching Kid Nation could tell you that a Gold Star is given out to one of the kids for "community service above and beyond".
What is a Gold Star in terms of LJ Idol? Pretty much the same thing, only I hand them out (instead of the four "town leaders") and they aren't worth $20,000 unless of course you happen to get something worth that much and write the words "LJ Idol GOLD STAR" on it.)
The idea behind it was that I wanted a way to say thank you to the people who have really stepped up, and so, given how many contestants there are, I figured having a post with their names in it would be helpful!
Five of these are people that I have an established personal relationship. I almost excluded them from consideration altogether, but then decided that it was better to give them the award early on, since they deserve it, and concentrate on people that I don't know once the game actually gets going!
This is community service based, people giving back to the community itself, even if it's just a well timed comment that caught my attention, and kept it over the last couple of weeks. If you thought reading through every post was hard - imagine going through EVERY COMMENT AND EVERY POST! I could have made this list SO much longer, but actually cut out quite a few people, many of them you will be seeing next week on the GOLD STAR award list I'm sure!
Anyway, here is the list of the 15 people who made a difference in the last couple of weeks in the "pre-game" warm-up/Week 0:

Date: 2007-11-04 08:30 pm (UTC)A few of these folks have added me to their friends list and are pretty great people. I can't wait to learn more about them and get them and everyone else playing better.

Date: 2007-11-04 08:52 pm (UTC)Also, I've been wondering: y'think they're pants worn by badgers, or pants made of badgers, either living or dead?
Personally, I prefer pants made of living badgers.

(remember, it's only a kilt if you're regimental *wink*)
Men in kilts are sexy.

Date: 2007-11-04 09:23 pm (UTC)I agree with you on this one. It's been fun to be part of the community and all the chatter going on in the green room, meeting new people, reading about new people, etc.

Date: 2007-11-04 09:34 pm (UTC)I work in a pizza shop. Often, I'm in back where it's hot. If I'm not, then I'm up front making pies...buy the ovens. Where it's hot. This is a problem for me because I don't like heat,. Heat & I are not happy little playtime friends.
I the spring, I started realizing that there was going to be a problem wearing pants soon; PA summers are so hot & humid that I want to do nothing more than sit in the cooler. Or lay in front of a fan & attempt to remove my skin because it's STILL TOO FUCKING HOT. The solution for most is of course to wear shorts. But I don't like shorts for 2 reasons:
Anyway, I hit upon the perfect solution: I would get a kilt. Except kilts are fucking expensive. Even UtiliKilts. MY ex-girlfriend was supposed to make me one when we were dating, but...well. Someone on LJ was going to make me one as long as I chose the fabric. I never got out to the fabric store. Delay, delay, delay. You know how it goes.
Finally, the start of June came around & it was getting hot. Totally under the gun, I did a ballsy move & headed out to WalMart to get a skirt or 2, figuring that if the dwarf planets & gas giants I see waddling through with the requisite satellite grubs in orbvit around them could find clothes there that fit their toilet-destroying asses, then my (relatively) slender self could find something to suit, I went up, gave the saleswoman a cock-&-bull story about having to rig up a Highlander's outfit for some wedding party joke, & we managed to find a couple things that fit that I liked.
I went in the next day at 1700 for my shift in my shirt & my "kilt," ready to be awesome & cool. The boss' sister, who works ther as a waitress, saw me when I came in & started laughing. I told her to shut up & said "I've mentioned this for months! You KNEW this was coming!" The guy I was relieving snickered a bit & then left.
Now, there's a video camera in the stoere with audio capability. It's web-based, so the boss can log on at home & watch what's going on, live feed. The phone rings & Chepa answers it. After a beat, she holds it out to me. "It's Juan." The boss. I take the phone. "Afternoon, Cap'n. What's up?"
"You got 5 minutes to go home & put on pants!"
"Aww, come on! I--"
"I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT! PUT ON PANTS! GET BACK THERE!"
for MONTHs, all fucking summer I grumbled about it & hated that I had to sacirfice 2 pairs of pants to make shorts--which I still hated. The kicker is that Friday night, a guy came into the store...& he was wearing a tan kilt. I told him I like it, asked him if his boss let him wear it. He said yes & I turned to Juan: "SEE? NOT EVERYONE IS AS CLOSED-MIDED AS YOU!" His reply? "Shut up. Get back to work."
