Speaking of fuss, I want to thank everyone who sent me supportive emails. It meant a lot.

I also want to thank the people who told me to f-off and die. Notice that they *said it* but they didn't take their ball and go home? They stayed. Because they love Idol even if a twist is rough on their heart. More people should pay attention to that lesson!

LJI shill biddin' aka "pimpin'" certainly troubled me a lot early on, and I agree it's always been a problem. It's not going to keep a bad writer in the game forever, but in past seasons I've tried out, it's certainly kept them in the game long enough to kill off and subsequently discourage much more promising "lights."

However, it's definitely possible to get pretty far, maybe even like actually all the way in the polls WITHOUT an LJ vote-army behind you. At one point I didn't think it was possible... more recent evidence suggests otherwise.

This, exactly. I think theun4givables has a good point downthread, in that if Idol truly wants you gone, then you're gonna get dropped. But. Pimping can throw off the balance enough to cause some serious damage, both directly (someone gets sent home due to poll results), indirectly (someone says "why bother?" and sends themselves home after seeing enough polls swayed or completely dominated by pimping), and both of the above (someone loses due to an opponent obviously pimping, or sees a good writer lose to same, and then they just don't come back, not because they don't want to be here, but because they don't think their f'list is big enough for them to stand a chance so why waste their time). Shill bidding indeed.

Also, I've reached the conclusion that you're LJI's very own Waldo - re-appearing in every scene, just in a different context and hiding place :P And I hope your recent evidence is accurate. That's one thing I really, really loved about the end of Exhibit A - someone phenomenally fucking talented won that one without (to my knowledge, anyways) any self-promo or pimping at all. That's not to say people who do a lot of pimping aren't or can't be talented, but seeing someone win completely on the strength of their own merits, persistence, and adaptability without bringing any outside bullshit into the game whatsoever was indescribably badass.
