I did something “Important” last night. No, I didn’t propose. That was Sunday. No, I didn’t put up the poll http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/659933.html well, OK, I DID put up the poll, but that wasn’t what I was talking about!

I finally finished watching the new season of Arrested Development! And yes, it was awesome.

As for you, I assume you spent the evening reading entries and starting to vote for your favorites! What have you seen, so far, that has particularly struck your fancy? What have you seen that has specifically struck your copy of Cat Fancy?

Yay for getting out of one's comfort zone! :)

I don't really do the beta thing much myself. I show the draft to some friends as I write it, and they say it's awesome, and that's pretty much it. I write way too slow to have time for massive editing like I did on the story I submitted to the Ploughshares contest in Idol's timeframe.

Yay for being outside and stuff! :) My job is driving around taking pictures of houses, so I'll get to be out and about too here soon. :)

It's not something I usually do... I often don't have time, either. But I decided that this season needed to be about developing my skills as a writer--and not just by writing, but by developing discipline and revising my work and reading more works by skillful writers who have been successful in the forms I want to work in.

And it was good because my entry this week was a story about my dad--and because it was something I lived, when I wrote the first draft, some details weren't clear enough for people who aren't my family. So, even though I didn't have to do any massive overhauls, each time someone read a revised version, they noticed different little things that could be improved. A sentence here, an unclear piece of dialogue there... and now I feel like I have a stronger piece. :)

Outside is awesome when it's a sunshiney day! Sounds like a nice job you have. I'd love to drive around and photograph houses. :)

Discipline is a good thing, and something I need to work on too. As the spousal person says - Idol is good for me because it forces me to finish things and not spend eight hours perfecting one paragraph, which I have been known to do.

And yeah, that's good when it's about your own stuff, to get feedback to make sure it's clear to people who don't know you and who didn't grow up with you.

My job is pretty sweet, yeah! :) It has its occasional stresses, mostly due to my anxiety, but I'm getting better on that. :)
