I'd say "Good Morning" to you folks - but there's been a twist, and the sun didn't come up at all. Just an empty chariot and a confused looking Arvak and Alsvid!

I think they are going back to take another look. If nothing else, they might bring the moon back, just to have something up there!

If you missed the excitement last night - then you may not actually have a pulse!

The results are in: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/597739.html
and there is a new topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/597827.html and Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/598038.html

The Home Game thread will be up a little later.

We're at the Top 4! This crazy ride is about to go over the edge into the canyon! Or maybe it already did! Is there a net down there? I guess we will find out!!!

I should have mentioned last night that I'm open to friending, should anyone be interested. Now that my LJI run is over, I'll probably go back to posting about things like movies, pop culture, random musings, found items, and of course, the "Panda Corner," my weekly round-up of info on KFP.

I've also got a weight-loss journal, where I'm chronicling my efforts to lose the pregnancy weight (and yes, my son IS 2, but I gained it during pregnancy, so it's still pregnancy weight). Please friend [livejournal.com profile] renewmom to commiserate.

Another shameless plug: my home page is at AlyceWilson.com (http://www.alycewilson.com), and you can find links there to buy my poetry and essays books. There are POD and Kindle versions of both. There is also a pamphlet about how to get accepted to literary magazines. After this season, there might be a fiction book in the works!

I'm also going to be starting a separate journal for my project, "Belated Mom: A How-To Book for Older Moms." If you're interested in that, friend my main LJ, and look for updates.

That about covers it. :)

ETA: Oh, yes. And I'm open to submissions to Wild Violet, (http://www.wildviolet.net) my literary magazine, which will be debuting its first weekly issue (after 10 years as a quarterly) near the end of this month.

Crazy ride is crazy! I made some cheesy-bacon cornbread muffins last night to take to work this morning for BossLady's birthday - we're all bringing in some sort of breakfasty items to celebrate. I hope these muffins are as good as they smell! Nom nom nom! :)

Gary, you posted everything at a great time for me. I was able to stay updated with it all before I went out to meet [livejournal.com profile] ecosopher for lunch. Our kids hit it off so well that apparently now our eldest sons are going to get married. That's what her son told us. My son's grandparents have been informed and his granny said "very good." I think grandpa was more confused.

It makes me want to write a fairytale inspired by them now though.

Doyle did NOT want to say goodbye to S! He simply refused because he wanted to spend more time with him. So we're going to try and get together again on Monday. We were thrilled with how quickly they became friends.

The thunderboomers woke me up :(

I've been recruited to help with s particular shopping trip to a restaurant supply place that I've heard about but have never been to (it's one of these places where you need proof that you can shop there). I have to keep reminding myself that NO, I do not have room in the freezer for a slab of prime rib (not that I can afford it anyway) and NO, I don't have room in the pantry for a 20-gallon jug of whatever...

However, I've been told they also sell utensils and such there. I could use a saute pan ;)

I'm picturing it in my head. I'm normally hesitant sharing cool things about my kids, but this is one of those things I couldn't hold back. I am glad it is pleasing to someone else who wasn't there.

Yay stunts.
I was just thinking about some of the off questions doctors ask you.
Like my neurologists (before moving to Florida) asking if I have been having black out siezers which are a lot like dozing off only your eyes stay open. Now I do have people who point them out so I can answer the question yes. But then he would ask when was my last black out siezer and all I can say is I don't know for sure, unless someone says something I am unaware of them or figure I dozed off hope hope hope (I prefer the better assumption)
Heck when I was little and had to get treated for an asthma attack brought on by being out in the.cold too long doing something like sledding (too long is longer then from door to car)) my doctor always asked if it was worth it. Du if it wasn't I wouldn't have kept.doing it.

Aww. Cute Icon.
Knowing that cats being the select carnavors they are do not have sweet twist buds (just salty and sour) I wonder sometimes just what some of the vegetable stuffs they decide they like twist like to them.
Things like sweet corn.

Went to sleep around 3, then before 7 the cat that was sleeping curled up on my arm got spooked by another cat and proceeded to shred said arm.

This has been a bad week for waking up with cats.

Anybody want a cat? I got 3, cheap.

I have an idea and have started working on it! So far, I think it could work out pretty well. Guess what - it's NOT a serial. I think I am done with those for the duration of this season, whatever that may be for me. :)

Since I have to work and then hang out with the kid until he goes to bed at 8, I foresee a very long night ahead of me as I write the remaining 80-90% of my Idol entry. Oh my.

That's an interesting question, Gary, and your comments preceding it ("now I only have 2 people to root for.." etc.) bring up some thoughts for me.

Based on who is on my FL, I theoretically have 2 people to root for. However, this is not to say that I am actively NOT rooting for the other two - that is definitely NOT the case. In fact, as the numbers started to dwindle, and I started to have more time to fully read the incoming entries, I was able to see what appealed to the masses about the contestants not on my FL, so I can say with all honesty that everyone left would deserve it.

BUT - there is a reason that the people who are on my FL are there. I met all of the people on my FL who are or were Idol contestants this year through Idol except for 2. There was a reason we clicked, I think. We could really relate to the writing. I think in many of the cases, there was a similarity in SOMETHING in our writing - maybe it was style or genre, maybe it was that certain "je ne sais quoi" that causes people to fall in love at work. Whatever the case, I ended up becoming vested in them. Reading their non-Idol journal posts, I got to know them better, and they me. Being personally invested makes it only natural that we root just that little bit harder for them, to the expense of the finalists who are not at that level for us.

That being said, what AM I looking for from the Final 4? Pretty much more of the same - the stuff that drew me to my friends in the first place, and the stuff that made me realize the appeal of my "non-friends" too. I don't expect to be disappointed.

I think everyone left has a shot and I'd be honored to lose to any of them. :)

Whipchick has a mastery of technique which I personally envy. Pixie is persistent and seems to have a never-ending supply of creative ideas. Notodette (who I apparently didn't realize was a mom last night - wut?) is a genuinely nice person who doesn't let drama get to her and has a lot of knowledge of the craziness that can happen in the writing industry.

It would probably be a little rude to sit here and go off on what's great about me, so I won't. :D

My husband got something like this, from an incompetent doctor who tried to invalidate everything he said and capped it off with, "How do you know you have memory loss? What are some of the things you've forgotten?"

Just... Gah!

I think it's natural to want to root for whoever's on your FL. As [livejournal.com profile] sarcasmoqueen said, there's already a history there -- you know their writing, they know yours, you've gotten to know each other better (hopefully) outside of Idol, and friends support friends, especially when the stakes are getting higher and higher.

At this point it gets a bit stickier because somewhere you have to start drawing lines as to why you would tend to vote more for A than B, D than C, and any combination in between.

This is where I start looking more at how people are playing the game. I look at what people say here in the GR as well as in their own posts. I watch polls, read pimp posts, and think to myself, Do I truly want to support this person? Do I think this person deserves to ultimately be named the winner? Does the behavior align with what I believe should be part of a winner's overall "package"? Has this person done anything I construe to be underhanded in order to be in the current ranking?

Because, like it or not, Idol's design does not completely concentrate on writing -- it's a huge, huge part of it, sure, but it's not the only thing.

Good questions.

I'm a sucker for people who think outside of the box and who try new things-- material and/or writing style. I like creativity. I'll be looking for and voting for that, whoever it may come from.

Thanks :)

n3m3sis42 has really pushed herself this season, seeking out advice on how to make her work better, and then using what she hears in her work. She's tackled big, ambitious multi-part pieces as well as opening her heart in nonfiction and being brave about sharing things that are tough to write.

I like people. I like people to be happy. I don't like to judge people or be harsh or critical or gossipy or mean. I like supporting underdogs.

That's really my only two criteria for voting - good writing, and underdog status. Essentially - if you have less votes than the other guys, and your writing is decent, then you're who I'll support.
