I'll obsess happily over my WordPress and LJ stats pages. But those do enough of a number on my self-esteem and my confidence in my writing when they're low. When it would be watching a number that's competing with other people's numbers - that way madness lies. So I just take the route of pretending it's not a competition. :)

I'm finding that my years of writing Sims stories are helping me with Idol. No one is literally voting on Sims stories, but there is that stats page and number of comments. And back in the day on the official Sims 2 site, star ratings. So I've been there and done that and watched numbers until I hated myself and everyone else, and I've learned to not care about the numbers so much anymore. :)
