I think having good time management skills is crucial to winning. Because it's crucial to being successful at *anything*.

Having kids and managing a relationship (or the two together) mean that if you want to do something, you have to really want to do it, and you are more likely to make the time.

If you have the support of a SO to help make that happen, and to cheer you on - it means when things get tough (in Idol and in the outside world) that's one more person to help ground you and keep you focused.
