As people slowly realize "Christmas is over, Santa has already brought me everything" and return to their daily routines - they stop being nice, and start getting real. The Real World - Live Journal!!

***

How was your holiday? Are you still on it until the New Year?
Are you still on it until Chinese New Year?
Are you ever planning on coming off holiday, you lazy bum?

Fortunately for people who don't want to take a writing holiday, the Free Topics are still up until tonight. http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/404754.html
What happens then??? Oh, you don't want to know. . . *cue dramatic music*. Well, OK, you probably do. But am I really going to tell you? Yeah, I didn't think so either!!

Snowcopalypse! I was told not to attempt going into work today, for which I'm utterly thankful.

I don't know how much is out there, but it's enough for Jack Dog to nearly disappear when he steps off the back porch...

Holiday was good, still have tonight to do Christmas with my family (most holidays have been floating holidays for years now since both parents worked for Disney and I worked in TV). But, I'm back to work today thanks to deadlines.

It's CHILLY! I know, not as bad as those up north, but since we were in the 70s over the weekend, to suddenly be at 32 in the morning is a bit of shock. I'm wearing flannel PJ pants since they're warmer than jeans right now. Gotta love being your own boss sometimes.

I might as well still be on holiday, as I am currently 24 minutes late to work and I haven't even put on pants yet. Good thing my boss is out this week!

The 'feels like' in Orlando is 22* right now. I'm going to need a bigger scarf.

The kids and I are snowed in. There's about 18 inches outside of my front door, and I'm not going to attempt shoveling with the three little ones alone in the house, so inside we'll stay! The hubby went into NYC last night, got stuck on the train for a few hours and had to switch to the subway halfway there, but his job paid to keep him in a posh hotel so that he'd be in this morning. He just didn't get to the hotel until 2 am.

On the bright side, my older son turns two today. I can't believe it. He's getting so big! We had a small party for him yesterday, and he LOVED his presents, which was good because he only got a couple of things. I bought him a soft set of Handy Manny's tool set and he spent most of the night taking the tools in and out of their box.

I'm not sure if hubby will make it home tonight, but we have plenty of milk and food in the fridge, though I may need to cook.

Yeah, it's crazy out there. The temp in my studio just got to 70 degrees. Brr.

Yeah, my neighbors kept their dogs in this morning. I'm sure the snow was taller than them. No complaints here-I had a morning sans barking :)

SO just came in from taking them out to the backyard. The drifts are so high that neither of them could paw for a place, so we're going to have to walk them. Whether we can get out to the driveway is another story

Oh, I stopped being nice eons ago. :-) And Christmas isn't over quite yet... [livejournal.com profile] pixie117 is in Missouri until Tuesday so we have yet to have "our" Christmas together... which we'll have on New Year's Eve... so we're draggin' this holiday out!

I go back to work tomorrow... boo on that. But it's been a nice 4 days off. :-)

Hope everybody has had a wonderful holiday!!!

Back to work for me. *insert grumble here* I still can't believe it actually snowed on Christmas. True it didn't start until after 9 PM, but that's the first Christmas snow of my life!

I've shoveled the path up to the house (because my roommate AGAIN didn't bother to, even though she was home and I wasn't), walked the cats (well, they were out on leash while I shoveled, at any rate) and am now going to curl up in bed with my laptop to write my other two Free Topic entries.

My next due date is Jan 14th, so I'm planning on getting a portion of the stuff due then done this week. We'll see how that goes. I'm designated driver Friday/Saturday.

When I walked the ferret on Saturday, he tunneled into the snowdrifts for a place.

Good luck getting out of the house!

I've got some mild Michigan winter weather, while everything is going snowy on the East Coast. I'm hanging out at my husband's work today, because I discovered that if I drove into my office, I would be the only one there... so I am working from home today. Only home doesn't have internet until the 30th, so home is losely described as the spare office next to my husband while he works too.

My Christmas was pretty good, but I think I am ready for the next level of Christmas, which is where I get to stage the holiday for my own little one.

Good News / Bad News

THE GOOD: I'm taking a "Snow Day" off from work. I've got about 2 feet of snow outside my window, and *NO* public transportation is running in my neighborhood. The MTA is asking for commuters to stay home, if possible... and in my case, it's possible.

THE BAD: I got nothing for Xmas this year. Really.

Y'see, about 20 years ago my family decided to start a "Secret Santa" tradition -- Everybody throws their name in a hat, everybody then pulls one name out of the hat, and they only need to buy one gift for that one person. (I've got no "Significant Other / Life Partner", much less any kids of my own, so it's not like anybody else is going to buy anything for me.)

The person who drew my name asked me what I wanted/needed, and I said I could use a new shirt to wear at the office. The problem is that (a) I'm a "Big and Tall" guy, (b) the person who drew my name doesn't live near any "Big and Tall" stores, so (c) they couldn't find a shirt in my size.

So at the family gathering, my Secret Santa tells me with great embarrassment that they couldn't get me a shirt... but couldn't figure out what else I would want.

Well, I was congenial and understanding, and told this person about a "Big and Tall" shop that I visit, and they could send me a gift certificate for the place. That's probably what they'll do.

But I've gotta tell ya: Even if you're a 47-year-old atheist who has given up on "The Season of Miracles", discovering that there isn't a single present under the tree with your name on it... kinda bites.

That sucks. I'm sorry :(

My husband didn't get anything from his Secret Santa either. "Lack of time" was the given excuse, but I think finances had a bigger part of it.

I'm back at work today, although at least it is a short week since we've got Thursday & Friday off for the New Year Holiday.

I had a lovely birthday and a wonderful Christmas - I hope everyone else had a fabulous #winterholiday as well!

I thought only shirt and shoes were mandatory - pants are optional, right? :)

My boss is out this week too - yay us!

Aww, it was a lean year for me too. I got a colander and a sweater, both of which I bought for myself. My holiday felt ok though because the kids were happy.

Indeed. But it's finally warmed up enough inside (up to 72 in my studio) so I put on real pants. It's too easy to climb back into bed with pjs on. Granted, it's still easy to take a nap in jeans, but I'm trying to be all responsible and get work done (while I'm still on the computer, but whatever). ;-)
