Also of note, I've noticed an influx of Garys on social media and on my television. Especially on commercials. The name seems to have taken off back into popular usage after being in obscurity for most of my life.

I am taking credit for this. I assume that all mentions of "Gary" are characters based on me. Even if it's someone you know in Real Life, I think it's completely reasonable to assume that they were named after me. Unless they were born first. In which case they are time travelers who were named after me.

Ultimately though, these other Garys are poor substitutes. Accept only the original, and the best. The me.

It used to be that I was the only Gary I'd ever met under the age of 50. :)

I worked for one once, who dressed like he was still in the 1950s. (and pretty much acted like it too)

I was going to reply to yesterdays post but didn't get time, so I'm going to put my two cents here:

I'm probably one of those people who dislike the lack of connection now on social media whilst also never posting personal posts. I'm incredibly aware of the fact that this is one of the reasons it's harder for me to form connections. But I suppose, for me, that's kind of the point.

I don't want to have to put the personal raw reality of my life on a stage for anyone to see just to be able to make friends. I don't like putting personal stuff in public posts.

A few years ago, it wasn't so much of a requirement. There was a lot more direct/ private messaging/ private comment threads where we could get to know each other better. I used to always be having private conversations with people. But I feel like I rarely have one to one conversations anymore online.

Also time zones are very hard, expecially when daylight savings starts like a week different to here and there can be three different gaps between time zones in the span of three weeks. I tend to try to post by a couple hours past the deadline time here, which should always be at least a couple hours before the actual deadline whatever is happening with time changes.

Votes are in. I understood the mission. All is well. :) And I can't wait to see the results and write for the next topic. I missed this week! Silly cancer.

But alas, it's not going anywhere. And there's not a good plan of attack, so at the moment - I'm in a holding pattern of "sit and wait and see." So as long as it's not going anywhere, people who know me know I don't go down without a fight, so I will NOT be going anywhere, either.

Unless I'm voted out, and then, well, I'm right and screwed for Idol, but not for life. ;)

Also, I only know one other Gary in real life, and he was a kid I babysat when I was... 15? And he was about 8 then, so he'd be almost 30 now. GOD. Anyway, he was a little jerk, so, this Gary, Idol Gary, I have to tell you something. I... I choose... I choose you. ;)

I’m super bummed to hear that your cancer has returned. My thoughts are with you. My family did a crazy theme park trip last weekend and when we saw some BSG memorabilia there I thought of you first, even though it was Starbuck and not Six related.

Thanks. I'm not as surprised as I thought I'd be because I'd been feeling - off for about a month. I thought it was seasonal depression, but then, all the cancer signs kicked in and I immediately rushed to my doc. So now, I'm just waiting on a definitive plan, which is hard to construct with this type of cancer and the limitations of my body/immune system. Fortunately, I do NOT have cancer in all of the enlarged lymph nodes they found, so there is some good news there!

Thank you for thinking about me, though. And that is awesome that you saw BSG stuff and thought about me. Starbuck is kick-ass! :)

I know another Gary! He is an incredibly charming older guy from Snohomish who consistently tells me that he's happy to see me when we run into each other at networking events.

He's not a poor substitute, but he's definitely not you. :D

A few hours ago I received the same question from someone else. Granted, they could be talking to each other - but I *think* it's an independent inquiry. ;)
