100 Weeks

When I looked at this mini season, I thought there was a chance we could have someone hitting 100 Weeks, but I thought it might be a long shot.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, the 100 Weeks Club is the honor of having survived 100 Weeks of Idol.  Given that we've been going since 2006, you would think those numbers would be pretty high - but anyone who has been around for long enough can tell you, it's tough enough to survive any given week - much less do that 100 times!

With this newest inclusion - we have *38 contestants* who have accomplished this goal.

For those keeping score - Ro has a record, by a single week, over the late agirlnamedluna,  at 160.

It's something to shoot for!  There are actually two people currently in the running who are breathing down the neck of that goal.

The reason I was surprised is that I still think of this writer as being "New School Idol", and the fact that a new school contestant would already be entering the pantheon was strange to me.

Every generation of Idol has their cheerleaders - the people who come in and really help define a season. She definitely did that from her very first weeks in the game, and has remained a strong presence.

But it's true.

Welcome to the 100 Weeks club:  (well, technically 105 as of this week) [personal profile] bleodswean !

I had previously said that the new FAQ was going to be "something special". In another place I said "unique".

It's both. Because for the first time, I let someone else put it together! :)

That person is one of the newest members of the 100 Weeks Club [livejournal.com profile] kathrynrose! I was planning on cutting and pasting some of her infamous welcome post anyway. So this worked out. ;)

If you have any further questions, that are not already covered in the FAQ, please post them in the comments and (hopefully) I will be able to answer them!

Thank You

They say that around Samhain, that the veils between the worlds is the thinnest. If that is true, I can't think of a better time to post this. To reach out and communicate with Idol past, and invite it into the future.

When we hit our 10 year anniversary over the summer, I wanted to specify thank everyone who had been apart of this crazy ride. But I didn't have the full list. Which is why I ended up reaching out to a few people known for their spreadsheets and combined them. No rest for the (very) wicked!

I've been using that new master list to track down the 100 Weeks, and in doing so I've found some people in seasons they weren't in, and some not mentioned who were in those seasons! So even this list might not be 100% accurate. Where there was an alt, I combined them into the "better known" name. But I'm quite sure that I've missed a few.

So if you see a name and you know it to be someone's alt, please email me at clauderainsrm@gmail.com (don't post it. No need to "out" anyone. :D)

Some of these people don't have LJs anymore. Some don't like me and aren't part of Idol anymore.

Some of them have passed on.

But the bulk of this list are people who I am hoping we will see again someday. (even the ones who don't like me.. well, except the banned ones. :D) All of them have made a difference in this community, and on this competition.

Thank you to all of you for making the last 10 years special! I hope to see you in Season 10, and whatever comes after that!

You know that "oops" moment, where you realize that something you said wasn't entirely accurate?

Yeah. I had one late last night/early this morning right before going to bed. So I checked again. Because there was one contestant who was "kind of" close, but IMO outside the window of where the other seasons had been, so she wasn't going to pass that 100 weeks mark.

But something about it was nagging me. So I checked.

Sure enough - that was a season where she had blown the doors off! (on a longer than average season)

Which is why you are getting one more of these posts this weekend, and why we are welcoming

into the 100 Weeks Club!

Congratulations!

I just finished catching up.

I can't believe I'm actually done with that. Well, with the people I thought were close enough to check. There are still a ton of people that I don't know their numbers (and of course the people now vying to become the first member of the 200 Weeks Club. :D)

As soon as I said that last post was the "biggest group of new members" I knew that the next one was probably going to be even bigger.

There ended up being a few people who fell a bit short, so the first 6-10 weeks of Season 10 could very well have more announcements!

But for now, I give you the newest members of the 100 Weeks Club:

[livejournal.com profile] copyright1983
[livejournal.com profile] cheshire23
[livejournal.com profile] impoetry
[livejournal.com profile] kathrynrose

That's an amazing group of writers, and people, right there.

But there are two more on this list, that I want to "call out" separately. Why? Because there's something noteworthy about how they accomplished reaching 100 weeks:

[livejournal.com profile] lrig_rorrim reached the mark in 2 seasons and 2 mini-seasons, which is the fastest anyone has ever gotten to 100 Weeks. Granted, I'm the "kinder/gentler" Gary these days. So that might just be an example of that. ;)

[livejournal.com profile] shanns_ljidol, on the other hand is quite the different story. She showed up in Season 3! Which means she was in the first group of contestants that wasn't mostly friends of mine. She showed up, and she stayed.

She has played in *every single season and mini-season* of LJ Idol since then. I can't even begin to say what that means to me, and what it says about her. Thank you.

In fact, thank you to all of you - those at 100 Weeks and those who just show up week after week, season after season! I am truly grateful, and hope that this place continues to be worth it.

I've started pulling in the mini-seasons into the totals. Honestly, I did that when Luna passed away for her "final total" and once it happened once, it became fair game for everyone else.

Precedent is precedent. :)

I don't mind though, the only reason why I didn't count them initially is that since mini-seasons have a donation involved, I didn't want people to think they had to in order to get extra weeks. As is, all of these people were close enough to the edge of breaking to the 100 week mark that it didn't take much to push them over the top.

This is an amazing group of people.

It's also the largest 100 Weeks group to be inducted at the same time! (with a couple more on the edge, so I'm fairly certain at least one more of these is coming before Season 10 kicks off!)

The writers joining the 100 Weeks Club are:

[livejournal.com profile] rattsu
[livejournal.com profile] kittenboo
[livejournal.com profile] marjory
[livejournal.com profile] shadowwolf13

Congratulations!!

When I first mentioned that someone had hit "100 weeks", it was a reaction to Survivor's mentioning when people had been playing for "100 days".

I never really thought too much about it, other than "It's a cool club to be in", or, I'll be honest, did more than taking a look every once in awhile to see if I thought anyone was close. There's no big spreadsheet somewhere (or wasn't) detailing how many weeks people survived. (and even now it's still just me manually going back and trying to figure out who I think might be close).

Because of this, I have missed some people, and their special announcement. There are a few who are "close" (I'm on Season 9 right now, and have decided to pull in the mini seasons to the totals, but haven't yet).

The first two people I missed crossed the lines within a couple weeks of each other. I feel badly about the first one. But I feel absolutely horrible about the second. Both are very talented writers, as well as people. But you will see what I mean when I announce them...

Our first new member of the 100 Weeks Club is the always fantastic [livejournal.com profile] az_starshine! I'm really sorry to have missed your special day, but this is very well-deserved!

The second? The late great [livejournal.com profile] walkertxkitty. I really regret that I couldn't give her this honor, an honor she *earned* while she was still alive.

More to come, as I find them...

For those who don't know - I started a new job a couple weeks ago. Which is fantastic news, in general.

Specifically for Idol though, it means that the new mini season won't be starting in September. I'm looking at Late October because I want to see what my schedule is actually going to look like before putting more work on top of it. ;)

I know some of you are saying "That soon???" but I also know there are some anxious to get back to it and wanted to make sure everyone was kept up to date.

How have YOU been doing?
