It's the final day of the Week 10 poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/743480.html

Who is going to survive to fight another week???!!!???

Who is going to come back into the game at the end of it???

(Other than [livejournal.com profile] ellakite, who should NOT have been eliminated this week, and has been given an Executive Bye. My apologies for that, and thank you for emailing me about it.)

There is still a little more time to give some love over in the Killing Floor: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/743022.html So head on over there if you have the time!

Until then though, what did you LOVE about your weekend?

and of course, what have you enjoyed this week that needs more love in the polls???

Getting older can be fun....

Yeah, it was a great weekend. Started with a crazy chainsaw safety class here with the most amazing retired logger for a teacher - a close and personal friend of Gary Snyders and omg the STORIES!!! We experimentally dropped trees and it was, well, crazy.

Then 4-wheeling down to the creek and more hellbilly funtimes.

He has to work today and he is literally crawling around on the floor being grumpy. sorry/notsorry

Is it tacky to say, "Me! I need more love in the polls!"? Aw well, tacky or not, I do need more love. I don't want to go home this week, guys! Don't you want to read more awesome stories about queer magicians and drag queens and Southern belles? Because I want to write them for you!

In other news, I've decided to use the next three days off to draft out a longer short story for Glimmer Train's Fiction Open, which is due at the end of the month. I have no idea what I'm going to be writing about, but...

Mmmmmmm....I agree, you need more love in the polls. And how does that work exactly? You've received some great comments on your wonderful little piece of writing....I don't know. The voting is mysterious, isn't it?

Perhaps...there isn't enough of a connection between the piece and the prompt?

I had a decent weekend - my mom has been feeling well enough lately, and we actually went out shopping for several hours. We haven't done that in years! Even when we did Christmas shopping last year, she would get tired after about thirty minutes and I had to have her sit while I went around doing things I needed to do. She actually wandered around the entire mall with me, and even tried clothes on for herself. It felt really nice. ^.^

I went to see the new x-men film, it was good. I was sceptical of the ending though, unless there was a little extra manipulation from Professor X, I don't see it turning out that way after all that just happened.

Yeah, go see it, it had a lot of excellent themes well done. I'm just a bit of a nitpicker and thus the ending annoyed me.

We saw "A Million Ways to Die in the West" at the 9:00 am breakfast showing at our local Movie Tavern theater. It was a fun movie, great cast - basically this generations version of "Blazing Saddles" or "Rustler's Rhapsody". Seth MacFarlane was wonderful in it, IMO. He's got charisma out the wazoo, LOL. (Well, okay - Neil Patrick Harris had stuff coming out the wazoo too, but it was NOT charm!!)

I actually put a rec list up in my journal! It isn't exhaustive, but they are entries that I especially enjoyed for whatever reason (I will admit to being a bit whimsical) and many of them could use more love in the polls. A few that I remember especially enjoying, due to putting an asterisk on my spreadsheet: [livejournal.com profile] beeker121, [livejournal.com profile] dakotawitch, [livejournal.com profile] fodschwazzle, [livejournal.com profile] kickthehobbit, [livejournal.com profile] ryl, [livejournal.com profile] shimmerdream, and [livejournal.com profile] yachiru.

Thank you! I am also impressed that you're organised enough to have both a rec list and a spreadsheet with asterisks.

Date: 2014-06-02 10:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com
I don't often have time to do Rec lists, but I managed to get it done this week. As the contestant list shrinks, it does get somewhat more manageable!

As far as the spreadsheet, it is SO helpful to have! There's no other good way (at least for me) to read ahead of the polls, and to remember whom I have read and plan to vote for otherwise. I either mark a Yes (with an asterisk if I *really* liked it), a No, or a Maybe if I have to think about it and come back later. If I miss reading an entry in a given week, I put a tilde (~) on my spreadsheet.

It's just something I do to aid in keeping whatever sanity I have left after having competed since Season 4, plus two Exhibits...

I took an aimless trip to Tennessee yesterday. It's been too long since I've been able to take long pointless trips without worrying about what's going to break off my car next, but after giving various mechanics all my money I trust my car again.

Honestly, it wasn't that long of a trip. Only an hour, but I finally went to TN!

One of the things I enjoy about the east coast is that you can travel for a relatively short time in various directions and hey be in a new state.

I remember TN as very woodsy, but that may just be the part I was in. Yay for happy road trips.

I used to live on the eastern side of NC. You can drive for four hours and still be in the same state. Now I'm on the pointy end where I can be in four different states in two hours. Heck, I've driven to SC just to see a movie.

Hmmm....I'm going to have to fall back on Plan B.

Let's go have a delightful sushi dinner, I just have to find out who serves fugu.

Well, fugu *IS* expensive...

Date: 2014-06-03 06:59 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ellakite.livejournal.com
I've never actually had the stuff, but I'm quite familiar with its reputation. I also know that all the cases of fugu poisoning reported in the last 30 years were where some idiot tried to prepare the stuff at home... so if you take me to a high-end sushi place, I would eat properly prepared fugu without hesitation.

(NOTE TO SELF: BE SURE TO SWITCH PLATES WITH WHIPCHICK BEFORE CONSUMING ANY FUGU SUSHI!)

My favorite part of this weekend was the wedding that happened in a neighbor's backyard. I'm in a small apartment complex so from our balcony we could look through the trees and see part of the ceremony. It was fun to sneakily share in someone's happy day. Not quite so much fun to share, their wedding bad who had a little trouble staying on key, but oh well.

From: [identity profile] gratefuladdict.livejournal.com
That's really sweet! My stepdad told me once that whenever he got sad, he used to drive around and find a wedding to crash. Just the ceremony, though - he'd sit in the back and listen to people share love and commitment, and it always made him feel better.

It was nifty. I got a happiness buzz just being nearby, even if they hadn't given their officiant a mic so we couldn't hear most of the specifics. They walked in to "Hold on, I'm coming" which never would have occurred to me, and is also charmingly perfect.

Neighborhood block party Friday night to Saturday night. Almost ran over a deer on the highway on my way to work Sunday morning (I'm fine physically but still spooked as hell, the Jeep is fine). Met up with some friends in RI yesterday after work. Due to a couple of unforeseen incidents and a really really REALLY long wait for dinner, we didn't get home until almost midnight. What I loved about my weekend was Portland. Ohhhh Portland. Admittedly, I didn't see much of it - I spent basically all day yesterday in Powell's, and acquired far too many books (nonsense. One can never have too many books), before heading back to Seattle via train. I'm still gallivanting around on vacation here in the Pacific Northwest and loving it. It's been kind of weird to be so absent from Idol and my online life in general and specific this last little while. I think I needed the vacation, though. It's doing me some good.

i'll tell you what I didn't like about this weekend...misbehaving sports fans. dear lord, if you go out to watch a game have the decency to be a mature adult about splitting your check or even simply PAYING your check for that matter. And don't get so sloppy that the establishment has to cut you off, dear lord, it's a sports bar, not a fraternity house.

And i'd love to have a voodoo doll of most Los Angeles teams especially the Lakers and Dodgers because their fans are the biggest douche jerkbags of them all.
