Happy Valentine's Day!

Today is a day to celebrate love and your relationships and/or massacre a bunch of people. "Bladerunner" is obviously ahead of that particular curve, for combining them both!

Here at Idol, we recognize this thing called "love", and yes, Ms Raitt, we are indeed ready for it! How we express it though is by setting up polls and making contestants fight to the death! Or maybe for votes, but I'm pretty sure it's to the death!

The Second Chance poll is up http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/621791.html
and the deadline for the main competition is tonight: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/620811.html so the evening will get off to a good start and romantic start as people ignore their loved ones to spend the evening on the computer reading Idol entries!

Dang, I thought I might make first just by the off chance that I'm awake when I shouldn't be!

I've never seen Blade Runner...

I baked heart shaped cherry pies and cookies yesterday and ate as I baked. Little did I know my sweetie would bring over some delightful peanut butter cupcakes.... I'm awake from my stomach revolting the ridiculous amounts of sugar it's not used to anymore. But it was yummy. And my pies were messy and seeped cherry, which I joked looked like blood... Fitting for my boyfriend and I, don't ya think? Now if only they were anatomically correct hearts. Maybe next year, I need something to aspire to.

We celebrated yesterday with our sushi place, lots of sweets and Survivor. That's my kind of V-Day!

Seeing how I am a pathetic loser with out romantic prospects or even sexual prospects which is even worse and my spawn who are my loved ones have school in the mornning I should be able to read entries without ignoring them.
Or at lest it wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for the latest round of flu dancing.
That should be my handle I think sometimes
Dances with flu.

You should do yourself a big favour and watch it. I'd be here for hours going into how revolutionary it was, or how it's just pretty to look at.

Blade Runner is the movie version of Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, but honestly, the two can stand independently from one another. They're both terrific, but they're just different.

Apparently, PKD was very excited about Blade Runner. I recently read a letter that he wrote to somebody about it, and it was kind of funny how worked up he was. Ridley Scott asked for his input throughout the process, and apparently PKD was extremely pleased about how it all looked. Unfortunately, he suffered from a massive stroke and died before the movie was finally released.

However, literally at the last moment, the studio requested a voice-over to "tie up" the ending (which really wasn't needed, but studios are stupid like that.) Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, and a lot of the crew were upset about this because PKD had already died, and they felt badly that they couldn't get his permission. So, the night before he had to do the voice-over, Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer stayed up all night drinking and partying. The next morning, Harrison Ford was hungover and sick. That's how he did the voice-over, as a way to stick it to the studio. And he insisted on only doing it once with no re-takes. I always liked Harrison Ford, but I absolutely love him for that.

Also, the most famous scene in Blade Runner, the whole "time to die" speech, was completely ad-libbed. Rutger Hauer had come up with it, and mentioned to Harrison Ford that he was going to try it out, but he didn't tell anybody else. Ridley Scott decided to keep it because it was so amazing.

So, yeah, Blade Runner was totally amazing. I could say a whole lot more about it, but I'll just stop here so I can go work on my entry.

I managed to hide a small box of chocolates and a note for my husband in his work van this morning while he showered. WHILE watching my son, who decided that 6:40 was a wonderful time to wake up this morning.

Needless to say, I am tired.

Making the objects of my affection fight to the death is how I ALWAYS show my love. Just ask my books!

Love you, Green Room.

That's because Blade Runner is one of the BEST representations of that gorgeous, gritty 80s cyberpunk aesthetic. And also it's the bee's knees. ♥

I've been finding it really hard to comment on entries this week. No technical glitch, I just don't know what to say. I kind of feel like Idol went in a completely different direction than what I'm familiar with, without me, and am wondering if I even still fit in here.

Doesn't sound stupid to me. Good for you for making a decision! I am struggling whether to cut, color etc. I'd like to let it grow out but it is so bothersome in the meantime. Ack!

You still fit in here. At least in my little corner of Idol, you do.

I haven't read many entries yet...but I do often find it difficult to comment on entries. Is it because the style of entries feels unfamiliar? The manner of interaction? The expectations? I'm interested to know--because I do find it harder to socialize than I used to around here. But I find that the writing is still pretty darned good.

Baby Idol and I called her grammy earlier to say Happy Valentine's Day. She mostly said "Hi" and "Grammy" and "Happy" at random moments. But it was sweet. And it was nice for me to talk to my mommy.

The SO and I exchanged cuddles this morning and if that's all I get for the day, I'm cool. Although I did make a request for a blood orange. ^_^

I got my entry posted yesterday and feel like I really got back some of that energy I had in season 6. It's something I really feel good about. Like, I can hold this up and say "This is me."

I've started reading entries and already found a couple that delighted me. I'm looking forward to reading more.

Ha! My seven year old was up at 5! *sigh* Did I mention he has ADHD and can't have his medication till 8? But we made it through! My spouse is getting chocolate covered strawberries delivered to him at work, assuming ProFlowers and FedEx do their job. Yay, LivingSocial coupon!

As a post script: I wonder sometimes if I confuse people by posting with both of my accounts.

(Which is mostly the result of laziness and commenting from whatever browser I happen to be working in at the time).

This is the best of the best valentine's day cards I have seen floating around the internet. I have never laughed so hard.

(wow pants).
