It's Christmas Eve! Where has all the time gone?? Why do I still need to run out and go shopping? Why do all good people turn their head each day so satisfied I'm on my way? And why, if I know that it's happening, do I keep looking?
I know that I will be looking at the entries posted to The Free Topics thread: http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/404754.html - because if you still want to write, what better excuse than you don't *have* to do it!

What do you still have left to do today?

Date: 2010-12-24 04:34 pm (UTC)I'm cleaning and cooking today, and baking! We're going to have lasagna for Christmas Eve dinner tonight, and I'm making biscotti to go along with it, and a chocolate mousse pie for tomorrow's visiting.

Date: 2010-12-24 06:44 pm (UTC)I used to always be the guy who worked the "family days," as I was out of the family loop for about 10 years. That gets old. Hang in there, and Merry Christmas.

Date: 2010-12-24 05:04 pm (UTC)All I have to do is mail the Christmas cards I finished last night- they'll get postmarked before Christmas, even if they don't get there until after! That and go to the grocery store for any munchies we might want tomorrow- cheese and crackers, and bread to go with the spinach artichoke dip I'm making. After that it's all low-key chilling out and watching lots of Doctor Who, chinese food for dinner, then back to the house for the NEW Doctor Who Christmas Special.

I want to get all three free topics done, one each for Toni, Sarah and Blake. Just have to figure out who gets what topic and what exactly to say. If the fiancé gets responsive I might do that tonight and then do illustrations tomorrow in between other artsy obligations (story illustrations and comic pages to color).
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! :D

Date: 2010-12-24 06:50 pm (UTC)I wrote about this in my personal journal, but it's just too cool not to share. Long story short, our finances have been messy for the past few years due to Sandi's uprooting her family and moving to Oregon, my divorce, a couple very difficult business years, etc. We're pretty much close to broke all the time (join the club, right?). I made a post about wondering whether we were going to get through the holidays with enough heating oil to keep the house warm. The next day, I looked outside and there was AN OIL TRUCK just finishing a delivery. To us. One of my LJ friends had filled our oil tanks for us, just so they could help us out.
Mind-bogglingly awesome.
So, here's to the season of open hearts. Much love to all.

Date: 2010-12-24 06:59 pm (UTC)I'm running hyper here hoping I'll finally crash and burn. If I had the brains right now I'd be eloquent, but it's not in the cards. Back-to-back 12-hour shifts will do that to ya ;)
I'm really tempted not to go to SIL's tonight. However, there will be food. I am one never to turn down free food :D

Date: 2010-12-24 08:13 pm (UTC)I always pack one change of clothes (at least underthings and a shirt) in my carry-on bag when I go anywhere, just in case. Hope the hubby gets his stuff back in one piece!

Date: 2010-12-24 08:16 pm (UTC)Anyway -- swear to god, not two minutes later, who pulls over coming the other way but two guys in a big pickup hauling a big tractor on a trailer. They unloaded their tractor, chained up our truck, and had us yanked out of the ditch in about 5 minutes. \o/
We knew they weren't going to be the type to take money (and they refused when we did offer), but as fortune would have it, we had just picked up our mail on the way out of the house, and friends had sent me a big tin of cookies. So, I ripped open the package, took out the card, and paid the nice guys with all sorts of holiday sweets and cookies, which they seemed quite happy to receive.
Faith in humanity is restored a bit at times like that -- they could easily have driven on by, but they stopped to help.
So, to the two guys in their sleigh of awesomeness (truck and tractor were both red, lol) -- you are our heroes! :)

Date: 2010-12-24 10:24 pm (UTC)One thing I've noticed about Minnesota is that people seem pretty darn helpful, especially in the winter. I think the awareness that MN winters can be deadly if you're stranded on your own has something to do with it, so a lot of people have 4x4s, jumper cables, tow lines &c. and are willing to use them to help someone out. I know someone that spent a whole day last week pushing people's cars out of the snow.

Date: 2010-12-24 08:49 pm (UTC)My family and I celebrated on Christmas Eve because my mother's working today, so today will probably be spent lounging around the house eating some more and marathoning the first two seasons of Fringe with my sister and brother-in-law, which they haven't seen, but I have. Then, maybe playing my new board game, Articulate, which is ridiculously hard, but so much fun. Can't wait!
