It's a special "Black Friday" edition of the Green Room. Nice and early for those people waiting for the sales to start, or people who haven't gone to bed yet. Or, you know those people who live "elsewhere".

I've often wondered about this "elsewhere" place. Is it nice? ;)

Just to be serious for a moment. (Don't worry, it won't last)

There is one thing that want to say on the subject of "thanks giving".

Thank you to everyone who has come out over the years for Idol. I've heard people tell me what it has come to mean to them, and how much they get it out of it.

I just want to be clear - what *I* get out of it is knowing that you feel that way. It's what has kept this little idea going over the seasons, over the years.

I hope Idol can do for you what all of you do for me.

(/end seriousness)

So, um, yeah - what sort of deals are you looking for today? Any good sales? I do know that Record Store Day apparently also is today, so get out there and support your independent record stores! Also a lot of locally run businesses are offering specials over the weekend. If you don't want to support the "Big Guys" it's always the right time to support local artists!

(Man, I should be working on commission here! :P)

Closer to what's going on here though is that the deadline for the next Topic is Saturday. Which is coming up faster than you might think it is - http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/391241.html

So what is going on in your life over this (for some) extended weekend?

There's nothing like a huge meal to make us thankful for our dishwashers!!

My "elsewhere" is okay right now (I'm so glad it's stopped snowing and that the weather has warmed up considerably).

My weekend plans? I'm putting up my Christmas decorations tomorrow, and I plan on getting my shopping done on Sunday.

Yeah, and I should think about getting my entry done as well!

I just woke up! I think the GR got posted right after I went to bed.

Here is my Home Game entry (http://zia-narratora.livejournal.com/650252.html). It is all metatastic (as opposed to metastatic) as usual.

I am not sure how much shopping I am doing, but I am going out for beer and raw oysters, the way life is supposed to be.

Oh that just sucks. Hope you survive the day and hope it's not in retail.

I for one, am very happily ignoring the madness that is Black Friday. Being out amongst sleepy, cranky consumers who will stab you in the forehead for taking the last leopard-print Snuggie doesn't sound like my idea of a good time. No thanks ya. Bah humbug to that madness.

And thank you, Gary... Idol has been great and you know what I've gotten out of it. Aside from the ability to "date up" anyway. :-p Thanks for all you do, man.

Hope everybody had a fantastic Turkey Day and has a wonderful weekend!

That sounds like a fantastic thing to be thankful for and some amazing friends too. I'm really glad to hear that.

Other than a quick trip to the grocery store, I'm not doing any Black Friday shopping. Tried that once...no thanks. I'm broke, and I don't know what anybody wants anyway, so everybody's getting cards again.

Much gratitude to those who have kept this community vibrant over the past years. Even as a rookie, I can feel the energy here. It seems to provide more than is visible at the surface.

It is much easier to say no to the madness from here on the ashram than it was in the city. The thing about not having any money is there isn't any temptation to spend it! How horrible it would be if those two things didn't coincide. A lot of people get in a lot of trouble wanting to spend what they don't have. Ah, desire can be evil. ;)

So sorry for your gallbladder issues! I had mine out years ago, but wish I hadn't. Much easier to say now than when I was in all that pain. Gallbladder problems over a holiday with little kids around. Poor, poor you.

Spanksgiving?

We watched the "where are they now" thing but have yet to watch this week's makeover episode. :)

I hadn't thought of that. So if that's how someone does it, then I can see that.

But most Black Friday fanatics I know go as a group, split up and wait in separate lines for hours upon hours, them beeline for other stuff separately. It's just about getting stuff.

And that seemed to be the mind set of others there too. Which to each their own...but I'm not a person who's all about material items.

It wouldn't be so bad except that it can't be removed until after the baby arrives, so I'm totally ready to have this baby and get the ball rolling. I've been throwing up so much that my esophogal lining is all burned up now, and there's no end in sight just yet :(

Spanksgiving is our annual Thanksgiving celebration. Most of my family has to work on the actual holiday, so I wait until Saturday to have everyone here and then we do a marathon Italian dinner :)

Wow, that's a lot of pies! How many people were you feeding, and how much leftover pie is there - and will you share?? ;)

OUCH! Hope you have some good techniques to deal with that and some nurturing around you. ;)

I asked about Spanksgiving because -- well, I get monthly DVDs from Spiritual Cinema Circle. Each one has 3 shorts and a feature. One of the shorts I just watched was called "The Bing of Being" and was a mockumentary on a guru who spanks rather than giving hugs. (Had to be there.) I was just wondering if this humor was connected. ;)

Ha ha! I watched the makeover episode, but have yet to watch the "where are they now" episode, LOL. I like to watch stuff in the order it was aired.

They were the ones who had dinner elsewhere, but didn't want to miss Sandi's baking. :)

I'm at work for long days all weekend - whee! The traffic reports as I came in were all about which malls had run out of parking.

Thank you Gary for keeping this community rolling, I've met many amazing folks here and get to keep my writing muscles stretched out, a great combo indeed.
