Results - Week 2

It's that time again, and this one hurts.

Don't get me wrong, it would hurt regardless of who was leaving, but I think this one is a little more personal to me since one of those people

referenced  the legendary Brad Dowdy (of the Pen Addict podcast) in this week's entry.  You can check out the podcast at https://www.relay.fm/penaddict  and Brad's blog at https://www.penaddict.com/   Brad was one of the people who inspired this week's topic. So seeing someone go out for writing about them was a little rough. Especially since there were also a reference to the late great Fran/walkertxkitty. That caught me by surprise to see her name on someone's personal Mount Rushmore.  Definitely well deserved for her to be there. But I wasn't prepared for it, so it caught my breath a bit when I realized...

I'll also admit that I still have the obituary from the paper from when Asimov died, that was a devastating blow. Teenage Gary used to devour his stuff. Especially the non-fiction (but the science fiction and mysteries as well) 


Aside from Vik, we are losing one other. And it's funny because I was in a very tense car ride to make it home on time so I didn't have to risk DW not being able to close a poll on my phone.  (That was an issue over at LJ) and at one point it was looking like a 5-way tie for that final spot. It came down to a single vote.  Which is as close as you can get. 

Unfortunately, we are also losing someone that I know was sick for a good part of the week, and who I hope is feeling better, surrounded by all the pittens in the world. Because pittens are totally a thing now.  If they are not, technically, a thing, someone needs to get on that and make it happen!

Thank you both for coming out and supporting Idol in this great Literary Prize Fight! I hope that you will Home Game and that when Second Chance opens up later this mini season, that we will see you back in the fray to take one more shot at the crown!

Oh, jeez. I forgot this was a two-fer. :( That makes it harder.

vik_thor has always been extremely nice to me. I'm sad to see them go.

yamyam_kat's leaving hits hard, too, because being sick makes it hard to tell a story...

I hope that they both keep telling stories, and possibly come back for Second Chance when it comes around.

Heartbroken to lose both yamyam_kat and vik_thor. I enjoyed both of their entries very much, and it's just too soon!

Awww, I'm so sad yamyam_kat is leaving. The pittens story was adorable!

I'm also sorry to see vik_thor go. There just hasn't been enough time to get to know everyone yet, but I hope you both Home Game and Second Chance!

Fran/walkertxkitty is responsible for my (limited) times I've participated in LJIdol... I knew her (online) from another community, and came in to vote for her, and stuck around _sometimes_ since.

and re: Asimov, I've also got a copy of his obituary from 1992, when I was living in San Francisco... I recently came across it while doing some unpacking... I read his mysteries, but definitely enjoyed his SF and essay collections much more. I have his Guide to the Bible, need to get his Guide to Shakespeare sometime.

Yamyam-kat has a few large projects due over the next month, so no home game, but maybe she’ll do second chance Idol when the time comes.
If anyone is local to Los Angeles, she is performing in three weeks with the LA Children’s chorus.

I've been away from anything but a phone and barely looking at it since Friday early as I took a small vacation in Boston.

I didn't even get to read everyone's entries as I planned for the weekend, but I am always gonna feel the pain when we lose anyone as we're seriously all fantastic folks.
