So what is going on over on your end of the series of tubes that make up the internet?

What do you wish was going on?

I obviously do not listen when I'm told I have too much going on. I'm in the middle of knitting a blue scarf and crocheting a afghan for our bed an decided to start a baby blanket for my niece. I wanted a smaller crochet project to work on occasionally.

I'll probably never learn. :)

Speaking as someone who not only has a blanket to do for a work project, but also has 2 afghans going, a cowl, a top, and about four other projects that have languished....no, you won't ever learn. ;-)

I'm enjoying the crochet a lot more than the knitting. I can see where knitting has it's place ... but I get can see far more progress on each turn of the crochet. I feel like I'm getting more done at a time.

Tell me, have they found a cure for this addiction? I ask only because I hope to stay very, very far away from it. *Laugh*

If they have, I've successfully avoided it so far. :) I even just packed a second project to take with me this weekend (even though I likely won't have time to work on the one I had packed) just so I could have some variety.

I think it's like having different books to read, it depends on what you're in the mood to deal with. :)

I keep bugging Lynn to go to a yarn store but I think he's putting it off to keep from seeing my head go asplody with all the variety and choices. I've already got a list a mile long of things I want to make. :)

I'm still like that when I go into the yarn shops. And I teach at one every week, so that gets rough. Plus she's a new shop, so there's something new each week. I just wander around touching everything and getting inspiration.

Oh dear ... it's a black hole isn't it?

*giggle* Well, he has his gaming books and I have ... nearly everything else. *laugh*

I'm a very tactile person so I love to drift through the yarns and touch and feel. It's about the only place I encourage Miss Kid to touch as she feels like. :)

It is a black hole. I keep my nicer yarns out where I can see them in an open cubbie system so I can be inspired. :)

I was just saying last night at my knitting group that I have a UFO (unfinished object) problem. Right now I'm working exclusively on crocheting a baby blanket for a cousin, but before that I started knitting a lace shawl for my mom...and let's not even talk about what I'm storing!

We were also discussing the benefits of crochet vs. knit. The conclusion at which I've arrived: both are equally easy to execute, but crochet is easier to *maintain* as you work on it, being that it's harder to cause disaster via unraveling!

What's funny is that I say constantly about our discretionary spending: he buys games and books, I buy yarn and makeup...it all evens out. :)

So far crochet is easier for me though I suspect that's simply because I did a little bit of it back when I was a little girl. Knitting I taught myself thanks to youtube. I've tried to learn how to hold the yarn differently to speed up but it doesn't seem to be working so far.

Nothing much going on except my day was totally made yesterday, by seeing a video of this little girl (the neice of a friend). She has cancer and just had lung surgery 2 days ago. Yesterday, after the tubes came out, she did this hilarious Chicken Dance. Kids are so resilient.

Also? Avatar is kind of epic. (This is coming from a skeptic.)

I'm drinking coffee and trying to wake up because I leave in 30 minutes to start the drive to Atlanta for a work thing. As much as I need to go and will hopefully get a lot out of this trip, I'd rather stay home.

Been having some great conversations with a special someone over email and text and really don't want to have to miss emailing time while traveling. :( But, it's nice to know that I'm going to be missed while I'm gone, even if it is for only two days.

Have a great weekend everyone! Not sure if I'll have time or access to answer comments, but good luck in the polls and I'll be back on Sunday night. Y'all have fun and don't do anything I wouldn't do (which pretty much means y'all can do whatever you want). :)

Well not traveling any where this weekend which will be a nice change of pace.

Cleaning up before the next project seems to be in my future. And I need to find an invite to a birthday party that Caroline was invited to to see if she can still go.

Oh and finishing up the girl scout cookie order.

It's one of those days where I can hardly move, it's 3 PM and I'm still in pyjama's and I have a ton of things to do, like one last text to translate before the weekend, pick up my meal cheques (bonus pay system here), go pick up a silicone pistol ... all that by foot by the way, fortunately I now have a good baby carrier and I can put my 2 1/2 year old on my back ;)

I wish ... I could just go to the park and lay in the sunshine. I could if I had done all the work this morning but my head was spinning too much =/ Ah well, it's the weekend soon! I plan on sewing! Perhaps finally continue Zelda:Spirit Tracks (I played it over Christmas break, then last weekend again, almost at the end, to tell you how much time I have ;))! Read! Scrapbook!

I wish our mortgage company would just cut us the loan! With the new regulations, it's making it next to impossible for my husband and I to make this house buying thing work.

It's really frustrating and stressful and ridiculous. For example, I had two deposits in January to my checking account that the mortgage folks couldn't verify so our application process got suspended. Egads, I just want this done.

Date: 2010-04-23 02:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tamaraland.livejournal.com
We were two foreigners in a third country buying our house. In a country where a minimum of 20% has to be put down. There were too many incoming deposits to our accounts in the buildup to getting enough in there for a down payment so it set off a ton of money laundering signals. We even had to talk to an investigator from Interpol!

Date: 2010-04-23 05:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cobycaroline.livejournal.com
While we have not yet raised the eyebrows of Interpol, this is kinda what's happening with us. We believe we have the capital necessary to move to closing, but the how and why for the mortgage company is not clear. To a certain extent, I kinda see their point. At the same time, though, I'm saying, "WTF, mate? Why does that matter?"

I can see why we set off alarms as well, we deliberately sent less than 10,000 Swiss Francs in each transfer because the fee went up astronomically for transfers beyond that amount.

The funniest thing was they didn't really care about my money because it was so insignifcant, it was my husband's they were concerned about. Unfortunately, all the supporting documentation he had on the transfers and stock sales was in Finnish!

I finished reading, commenting, and voting this morning. So I'm glad about that. It's getting more difficult to decide what to vote for... my criteria has to keep getting tougher as the writing improves.

Hooray for Friday! Not hooray for waking up with a sore throat. I think it's allergy stuffs.

Still deciding whether I'm going to go to Maine. Should probably see if I can find a place to crash for a night... I want to... but I also want to just sleep and relax and apply to a few jobs and whatall. And there's always next weekend.

I wish that I had the day off from work and was still slumbering. Also that I had a job in Maine.

Strangely, I'm not sure I've ever read her books, even though the name is familiar. And I say strangely, because there was a big push in the schools where I grew up to read Maine authors and learn about Maine things.

From: [identity profile] teaberryblue.livejournal.com
I think we're at the point where 90% of the people left in the competition are people I consistently vote for. If I think about the fact that the first week, I voted for 40-something people, and just a few weeks ago, we had a contestant-only vote where we voted for thirty people, and now we only have 37 left, it's really getting tough.

What are you interviewing for?

I'd want to ask something personal (but not too personal) to get to know a little more about the person behind the suit - like "What is your favorite vacation destination and why?" or something akin to that.

The answers might give you more insight - for example, do they enjoy a party atmosphere, lazing around by a pool/beach, or going somewhere adventurous?

Well it's kind of true..job market's picking up...we've been getting calls since the year started - Since February...about contract gigs..

just that the recruiters are 80% more annoying than they used to be...I think just temporary jobs...things are picking up...dunno about permanent work - I think companies are gun shy about taking risks on hiring someone permanently if they think they need to lay off workers down the line...

Date: 2010-04-23 04:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] beautyofgrey.livejournal.com
I will admit...we are being ultra-picky and we've cycled a lot of people through in the past two months. We put people through a full-day interview process to determine how they will fit with the company, in part due to wanting to take on permanent hires, and not waste money/time in training people who won't work out.

Date: 2010-04-23 04:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] worldofcharlie.livejournal.com
well generally that's the idea of bringing people as contractors first...so you try them out and see if they work out...

I'm seeing more ...bringing in people to do specific work...and not hiring them as well...soon as the work's done..that's it...

I got my LOLCat t-shirt in the mail yesterday - w00! It is red with an orange cartooned cat standing up on his hind legs, looking kinda sad. The caption reads, "I made you a cookie... but I eated it."

So I made a batch of break-n-bake cookies last night (chocolate chip, plus about a dozen sugar cookies) and brought them in to work today. Obviously, I'm wearing the t-shirt to go with it.

And yes, I eated a cookie!

Otherwise, it is Friday and that is always cause for celebration. =)

Work has torpedoed the crawfish and gumbo...but I'm not too heartbroken...I get to have sushi and churrasco instead. :)

I have a meeting this morning at 10a. I know all the office folks are thinking 'oh poor you' but 10a is early in theater time. Also, the invite was only sent to about half of the people I think it should have been, so we'll see how useful it is.

Other than that the plan this weekend is to buy a new mattress set.

Ack. I hope that your meeting went well. Hopefully it was a *good* meeting!

Hope you have a great weekend!!!

It wasn't bad. At least it felt like there was a reason for me to be there, and I think I've got the one morning off from rehearsal I needed.

Yay for weekends! May your's rock as well.

We're in this weird rut...and ruts are hard to get out of...

Usually the rut has to go away on it's own...

But I'm hoping that tomorrow after going to (Carrie is) a Housewarming and then a birthday party (I may be at the birthday party)...that social interaction might pull us out of it.

Really just waiting for our body to get back to "normal" from being jetlagged.

Isn't Mother's Day still several weeks off? (just noting Gary's comment in parathesis about Mom jokes) Unless I'm missing something here...

Howdy Howdy Howdy All... :-)

Today is... strange. Woke up from a really strange dream which initially set me off-kilter... then there was a massive line at my Starbucks so I had to proceed to work sans coffee *pout*... and then wandered into a massive clusterfu*k on the freeway heading into work which made me uber-late. Well... later than I *usually* like getting here. So now I have to stay later at the office. On a Friday. NOOOOOOOO!!!!

Despite all that, I'm feeling chipper and kinda bouncy for completely unknown reasons at the moment. Perhaps somebody slipped me some happy pills or something. *shrug*

Hope everybody has a fantastic weekend lined up!!!

You're chipper and happy because you have wonderful friends like me and it's impossible to be down when you've got so much sunshine in your life!

The McCafe? Oh my.... chicken pie? I don't know that I'd sully myself by drinking one of those abominations! lol....

I actually worked today, so that was good. Well, tow hours worth of work, but hey, I will take what I can get.

If I can find a dog sitter at the last minute, looks like I may be spending the weekend in Chicago with friends...anyone care to volunteer? She's a GIANT sweetheart :)

I need to do a million things before that can even happen, so better get off LJ I suppose.

I know what I wish could be happening, but it's probably not appropriate to talk about here...

I'm about to go to sleep. We have to get up at 6 am tomorrow and will be disembarking the cruise ship. I'm so sad to be leaving. This has been the trip of a lifetime. On the bright side, we're going to London for the next week for one more week of vacation. I just have to survive most of the day at Barcelona airport tomorrow and then we're onto the UK!

I'm excited to be heading up to Santa Rosa tonight to see The Greg. Unfortunately, it's because I'm helping him move. I am tired of moving. *yawns*
