Voting - Week 22

A few words from me:

A house divided.

Divided between two topics to be precise.

That is what we have here, and the reason that this poll exists - to determine who will advance and who has reached the end of their journey.

It has been an absolutely incredible journey so far, and it is showing all the signs of just getting better - as the writers themselves seem to be, pulling out some absolutely stunning work this week.

But loss is the nature of the beast, and we will be losing 2 contestants from each tribe, for a total of 4. Which means, when the poll closes and the results are formally announced, we will have reached our Top 15. Thinking back over the course of the season it seems unreal that we have actually reached this point, and yet - here we are, with further to travel.

So let's get to it.

As always (but apparently some folks did not know this) vote for your favorites, selecting as many of them in each poll as you like.

The poll will close on Saturday Feb 28th at 7pm EST. So read the entries and make sure that your favorites get to stay in it!! I've said it before, and I'm sure I will say it again, word of mouth is the best form of advertisement. If you see something you really enjoy, and want to see more of it, make sure other people go to read it too! (and as always, comment on the entries! Feedback is always a good thing. Also - don't forget to tip your waitress!)

Good luck to everyone!

Yay!

I feel so honored to know that [livejournal.com profile] gringo_in_tj finds me to be one of the better writers in this season.

LOL

Wow. Sorry to have misled you. No. I didn't vote for you. Ask the mod, apparently he's been keeping track of my voting.

[identity profile] thenodrin.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
I was being sarcastic. And, I didn't say you voted for me. I said that you felt I was one of the better writers.

Because, you answered the question, "So who do you think are the best writers?" by saying, "Those who have been published and paid for their writing."

*yawn*

Me too. Yet I seek no confirmation of my mad l33t lit3rary skillz through LJI. And you haven't won the competition, which is, again, proving my point. Or your point, actually.

[identity profile] thenodrin.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Me too."

Yeah, I'm going to have to call Bullshit on that.

And, if you had been paying attention to the competition, as you claimed, you would have noticed that I went out the week that I delivered a below-quality (in my own opinion) entry. I had trouble finding the angle, and when I wrote the entry I wasn't happy with it, but it was what I had.

It in no way proves your point.

So all of the others in the competition are better writers than you are?

This had better be a yes, or your argument is screwed.

[identity profile] thenodrin.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
All of the others turned in better essays than me that particular week, yes.

There is one person left in the competition whom I feel is, consistently, not as good a writer as I am. But, on that particular week, such was not true. My essay on "Blanket" was inferior than this other person's.

And, yet, I was just as popular the week before and the week after as I was the week I was eliminated. Therefore, it stands to reason that your premise that it is entirely a popularity contest is flawed. If it was all about popularity, then the fact that I turned in a rushed and poorly argued essay would not have eliminated me.

"There is one person left in the competition whom I feel is, consistently, not as good a writer as I am." Then, by your logic, that person shouldn't be there.

Therefore, it stands to reason that your premise that it is entirely a popularity contest is flawed. If it was all about popularity, then the fact that I turned in a rushed and poorly argued essay would not have eliminated me.

It didn't. You just aren't popular enough. Sorry, man.

Next?

[identity profile] thenodrin.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Then, by your logic, that person shouldn't be here."

No, that isn't what I said at all. My essay on "Blanket" was of lesser quality than the other person's essay on "Blanket." The fact that I think that most of my other entries are of better quality than most of their other entries do not enter into the fact that when it came time to vote for the best written entry, mine was of lower quality.

"You just aren't popular enough."

So, by your logic, popularity is something that fluctuates week per week. Pray tell, does it happen to fluctuate in proportion to how well a particular entry is written? Because that would be handy for you.

"So, by your logic, popularity is something that fluctuates week per week."

Dude, is there any doubt in that?

My essay on "Blanket" was of lesser quality than the other person's essay on "Blanket." The fact that I think that most of my other entries are of better quality than most of their other entries do not enter into the fact that when it came time to vote for the best written entry, mine was of lower quality.

You're qualifying your failure to move on in LJI by downgrading a certain entry as compared to other entries. That week, apparently, you were not popular. This is what happens.

[identity profile] thenodrin.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
It is handy that your definition of "popular" is directly proportionate with other people's idea of "quality writing." It makes your premise entirely unprovable and immune to disproving.

Because, an example of below quality writing is, in your logic, a decrease in popularity. And, an above par entry would, logically, dictate an increase in popularity.

So, a contest that rates by quality writing must be a popularity contest because the two are actually one and the same.

Since you have surrounded your premise with a logic trap, I see nothing to gain by continuing to discuss it.

That was sort of my point a couple of hours ago. Good luck to you.

You kick ass! You got the stamp of approval!

[identity profile] thenodrin.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I did. It gives me validation.
