Green Room - Week 5 - Day 1

It's one of those days where I think if I start ranting about what I want to rant about that I just won't shut up until I start attacking people. :D

So I'll give you some links instead:

Here's the results from last night: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1008987.html

Here's the new topic: https://therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/1009402.html

Here's a reminder that the only thing that goes in the Topic thread is links to the topic: Hey, only post your links in the topic thread! Thanks!

Here's a reminder to feel free to start a Work Room thread in the comments section: Hey you can... you know. Do what I just said!

Here's a cookie... it's mine. I was just testing you. You're not getting my cookie!!!

Actually, it's lucky parents. They're good kids and its midterms soon, so they need sugar fuel.

Sugar fuel is better than what I ran on during exams. Coffee.

Good kids are the best kind. :-)

As the EXPERT on Kayfabe (are there any other people in the professional wrestling business, if so? I apologize for saying I'm THE expert) here I'll give some helps on ways to view the prompt and assist writers.

The way to really consider the term is "staying in character no matter what the situation". This can pertain to any job, any life situation. If you drop the persona you've presented you still try to do it in a convincing fashion, so the aura of that persona is still around you. It's something even say a teacher must do, when not in school but bump into a student. They still have to kayfabe a bit.

I hope this little paragraph helps and don't worry, it doesn't hurt my entry. I know more about kayfabe, breaking kayfabe and faking kayfabe cause when you work a work and work yourself into a shoot, brother.

This makes a lot of sense. And teachers being 'friends' with students on social media is odd to me (partly because I graduated from college before social media became such a huge deal, but partly because of the implied excessive familiarity, and yes breaking the status quo, or kayfabe).

I was friends with a fair share of teachers back in JHS and High School days outside of school... but I'm an anomaly for sure.

This IS helpful, thanks!

Because so far, all I have is a hate-on for this prompt.

This could help some ideas get going. :)

My daughter used to be a Huge WWE fan, so I've certainly watched my share of wresting and definitely seen this in action.

Always happy to to know someone was a fan.
Happier when they STILL are... but I mean I work in the business of wrestling, so always need more fans.

I thought I understood the prompt and your explanation kind of confirms it for me. Thank you! Now to turn it into something worthy of submittal...

I shouldn't be so clueless. I've lived in Hart country for decades and my dad was a big fan of local wrestling and used to hang out with the wrestlers in the bar after matches. When I was seventeen or so I used to watch local wrestling on TV, so I should not be clueless.

I don't know. Maybe it's something in the water. ;-)

Super helpful, for sure! Thanks, Reid!

Do you know Aubrey Sitterson? he's the only other person I know who is entrenched in the wrestling community and he just wrote a graphic novel on the history of WWE.

The seeing teachers in real life thing is funny. I loved when my son (who was 4 and in preschool) was like, "wait, they don't live HERE, at school?" lol!

Well, I am not into wrestling at all, so I had to look the term up.

This is a fascinating video:

Wrestlers having 'personas' is news to me. Not completely, of course, but the fact that they play them up to the extent Internet is suggesting, is.

Okay, ideas.

-learning new sides of people you only new, for example, in a professional setting.
- actors breaking character for whatever reason (or staying in character despite sudden unexpected events).
- anything to do with the "status quo", or faith in something or someone, that either needs to be maintained or broken.
- situations requiring secret languages or "short speak" of any kind...
