Green Room - Week 39 - Day 4

Some people are going to look at this post and see it as white and gold. Other people will see blue and black.

I'm sure it will cause a lot of disturbance, but I hope you will be able to figure things out eventually.

The only thing you see when you look at the polls though is awesome entries: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/842453.html

How are you doing? Any plans for this weekend?

I knew you were going to bring that up today.

It freaks me out a little.

Also, first.

[identity profile] bleodswean.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats on first! :)

I have to admit that we wasted colossal amounts of time here on that dress yesterday. My daughter texted it from work where they were wasting time with it. Her father is colour-blind in the rarest of ways and she wanted his opinion, thinking it was a colour-blind meme-thing. He saw white and what he called brown. I saw white and gold. She saw blue and black. Her work was divided 70/30.

I dunno.

[identity profile] dmousey.livejournal.com 2015-02-28 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw a lilac (definitely not white) and dark gold. What does that say? (Laughing)

[identity profile] xo-kizzy-xo.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know about it until I logged onto FB this morning. My first reaction? "REALLY?!? ALL THIS BROUHAHA ABOUT A DRESS?!?"

I saw white and gold.

[identity profile] lrig-rorrim.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it predicting Gary that freaks you out, or the dress? (Which is totally freakin' blue and black).

Also, congrats on first!

Heading to the Magic Kingdom today, then tomorrow back to Universal!

I will get the poll read tonight, I promise!

I stopped being mystified by the dress when I looked at it on a different screen. White and gold on the desktop screen (with brightness turned way down), blue and black on my phone. When I adjusted the phone brightness? White and gold again. Mystery solved. :)

I'm going to get my hair chopped off this afternoon. It's about time, considering the last time I had it done was over the summer.

Next week is Hand Doc appointment (yes, please release me for 40 hours at work) and taxes.

SO may be stuck down in TX for a while longer if the forecast down there does what it's saying. He drove down there in the middle of last week's ice/snow mess. At one point he had lines of cars following him -- he surmised they must've noticed the license plate and figured that if he's from MA then he must know how to navigate!

[identity profile] bleodswean.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

*cries*

[identity profile] kickthehobbit.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Man. He was my mom's first crush. I almost feel like I should text her or something, except she'd think it was weird...

[identity profile] crisp-sobriety.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
As a huge fan of original Trek, that was a terrible piece of news to wake up to this morning. :(

[identity profile] dmousey.livejournal.com 2015-02-28 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
::nods in agreement::

So, so many Sci-fi characters were spawned by Leonard Nimoy's talent and believability as Spock. (Data- though beloved also, just never quite cut it)

Now Mr. Nimoy can boldly go...

[identity profile] kickthehobbit.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and re: weekend plans—I'm meeting this, like, super-weird person who goes by [livejournal.com profile] lrig_rorrim in Seattle tomorrow. idk, it could be fun... ;)

I'm also very tempted to apply for a job in the Antarctic (http://www.ukaht.org/about-us/jobs), though that would ruin basically all of my future plans (but allow me to fill the goal on my bucket list of living in Antarctica :P ). Deadline's midnight tonight, if anyone's ever dreamed of being a postman!

[identity profile] lrig-rorrim.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you have any IDEA how much shipping chocolate to the antarctic costs? Think practically here. :P

[identity profile] kickthehobbit.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd imagine it'd be pretty cheap —just strap it to a penguin. ;)

You may be able to live there sooner than you think! The Antartic is about to have another ice shelf break off the sze of RI or De.

Penguins may not be able to live there... or Polar Bears...

[identity profile] bleodswean.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
WOW!!!! What are you waiting for??????

[identity profile] halfshellvenus.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Still finding it hard to care about much of anything, but it's better than it was... I'm still reading and voting in Idol, but not feeling very chit-chatty.

Our son's sophmore team won the county Moot Court competition last night, and our daughter's Mock Trial team competes in semi-finals tomorrow. Hopefully twice, if all goes well. *fingers crossed*

Other than that, trying to get caught up on everything I didn't do last weekend, while we were up in Oregon.

Hahahaha, so much LAW in your house!!! :)

[identity profile] halfshellvenus.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks-- I know you know how hard this has been.

The LAW... is for two kids who are really good at it, and have no interest in pursuing it as a profession! Which is fine-- I understand that completely. But this year, now that the County is running both competitions at the same time, it has eaten our life. And prevented them from seeing each other compete, which is too bad.

The Moot Court finals were in the 3rd District Court of Appeals, presided over by three of the actual judges on that court. Quite an impressive event!

[identity profile] bleodswean.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Very exciting! You two must be pleased and proud! And don't write law of too soon...they are so young....the average age of law school freshmen is 26!

[identity profile] halfshellvenus.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. *hugs back*

[identity profile] lrig-rorrim.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Give yourself time to grieve. It's ok to be feeling quiet.

[identity profile] halfshellvenus.livejournal.com 2015-03-02 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. It's hard to muster enthusiasm for anything right now, other than the kids' events, though I know that will get better with time. *hugs*

This weekend, i will be mourning Mister Spock.

[identity profile] snarkerdoodle.livejournal.com 2015-02-27 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. :(

Yes.

Hear hear.

Spock wore blue and black. You do not DARE say "white and gold" today of all days.

I am in Seattle and doing ok! Exhausted, but ok! Travel wears me out, and staying up till after 3 (5 my time, since my brain insists on tacking on those two hours whenever I think about time) last night was maaaaybe not the wisest decision, but I'm having a good time.

We're going to the scifi museum tomorrow, and that should be fun! And, oh, yeah, meeting that weird Spirit of Idol person. ;)

I'm sad about Leonard Nimoy... he was such a great guy, nice down to his core.

[identity profile] anyonesghost.livejournal.com 2015-02-28 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Try to go to that crepes place in Pike Place Market. (Other end of that little monorail, then a few blocks west.)

[identity profile] ryl.livejournal.com 2015-02-28 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that dress thing about the xkcd comic from yesterday? I was very confused when I went to my Facebook feed to read Nimoy tributes and found everyone arguing about dress colors. Fortunately, there is another xkcd that addresses (ha!) that situation: You're all being WRONG on the INTERNET! (http://xkcd.com/386/)

What am I doing this weekend? Basking in the glory of finally taking care of the backlog for my alternate LJ, which can be found linked on my profile page. I've been doing it piecemeal for the last fifteen years, and I've finally snarked on every single advice letter I have in my file. Progress!

Here (http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/what-color-is-this-dress) for anyone who doesn't know. The xkcd comic is illustrating the scientific explanation.

I find this dress intensely frustrating because I see it as a different color whenever the picture crops up.

I can see it as white and gold, scroll down to remove the top of the dress from view, and watch as my brain reinterprets it as blue and black. Scroll up, back to white and gold.

Weekend: thawing out, working out, geeking out. And taxes (grossed out).

Arguing with Americans who don't understand Russian politics.
