Green Room - Break Week - Day 10

The break is almost over! And just in time, because I'm starting to go stir crazy over here, wanting to put my foot back on the gas!

There IS some Idol business going on right now though - with the Break Topics: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/961914.html You should definitely go check those out and show the people showing up some love and attention!

Since it's during Break time though, I can also acknowledge two people who have been assisting behind the scenes: For those who don't know [livejournal.com profile] eternal_ot has been doing a great job with our Twitter and Ello accounts in getting information out there about what's going on with Idol - and [livejournal.com profile] murielle stepped up and has been having fun with the Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/ljidol/

Thank you to both of you!

And thanks to everyone else who has been getting out the word about what we have going on here. (or will have going again once the break is over)

First?!? Frist?!?

Eldest Niece's engagement party is tonight. What does one give as a present for an engagement party?

A coupon for 2 to a spa/massage business? His and her massages? Her and the Maid of Honor?

The issue is that her fiance lives overseas. They fly back and forth frequently. Her job is here, his is there. They're not getting married until 2018. We're not particularly close to them, so we have no idea if they've set up a joint account or what-have-you.

The party, I think, is a ruse for my MIL's birthday, which is today. She never wants attention drawn to her, so the engagement is a perfect foil.

I like the spa suggestion! I'm not sure how either of them would go for that, though. I was thinking a gift card to one of the better restaurants around here, but I don't know if it'd be appropriate...?

Ooh, now there's an idea! Hmm...

So what did you decide on for the engagement present?

Cookbooks! Mark Bittman's "How To Cook Everything" and his "How To Bake Everything" plus some cuisine-inspired magnetic bookmarks :) I told SO that everybody needs at least one basic cookbook. I had more than one, but that's me, LOL.

Better restaurant....romantic dinner for 2....maybe a gift basket with some massage oil, a scented candle, and 2 *tickets* to a night of comfort (ie....a night by themselves).

There are gift cards that are just like a Visa card, and can be spent anywhere you can use a credit card.

(edit - crap. It's kathrynrose. I don't know how people function with multiple LJ sign ons.)

LOL, I knew it was you :)

We just got off the phone with SO's sister. She said, "Oh, really, anything. Gift cards, a bottle of champagne, anything to do with cooking/baking, money, whatever. They're not picky."

I said to SO, "Maybe we should give them a gift card saying I'll teach them to bake!"

Actually, my niece's fiance is a pretty good amateur baker. He did a cookie tray for Christmas which was a hit. He's not too shabby at decorating either.
