Green Room - Break Week - Day 10

The break is almost over! And just in time, because I'm starting to go stir crazy over here, wanting to put my foot back on the gas!

There IS some Idol business going on right now though - with the Break Topics: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/961914.html You should definitely go check those out and show the people showing up some love and attention!

Since it's during Break time though, I can also acknowledge two people who have been assisting behind the scenes: For those who don't know [livejournal.com profile] eternal_ot has been doing a great job with our Twitter and Ello accounts in getting information out there about what's going on with Idol - and [livejournal.com profile] murielle stepped up and has been having fun with the Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/ljidol/

Thank you to both of you!

And thanks to everyone else who has been getting out the word about what we have going on here. (or will have going again once the break is over)

First?!? Frist?!?

Eldest Niece's engagement party is tonight. What does one give as a present for an engagement party?

[identity profile] sorchawench.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
A coupon for 2 to a spa/massage business? His and her massages? Her and the Maid of Honor?

[identity profile] xo-kizzy-xo.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The issue is that her fiance lives overseas. They fly back and forth frequently. Her job is here, his is there. They're not getting married until 2018. We're not particularly close to them, so we have no idea if they've set up a joint account or what-have-you.

The party, I think, is a ruse for my MIL's birthday, which is today. She never wants attention drawn to her, so the engagement is a perfect foil.

I like the spa suggestion! I'm not sure how either of them would go for that, though. I was thinking a gift card to one of the better restaurants around here, but I don't know if it'd be appropriate...?

Ooh, now there's an idea! Hmm...

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
So what did you decide on for the engagement present?

[identity profile] xo-kizzy-xo.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
Cookbooks! Mark Bittman's "How To Cook Everything" and his "How To Bake Everything" plus some cuisine-inspired magnetic bookmarks :) I told SO that everybody needs at least one basic cookbook. I had more than one, but that's me, LOL.

Better restaurant....romantic dinner for 2....maybe a gift basket with some massage oil, a scented candle, and 2 *tickets* to a night of comfort (ie....a night by themselves).

There are gift cards that are just like a Visa card, and can be spent anywhere you can use a credit card.

(edit - crap. It's kathrynrose. I don't know how people function with multiple LJ sign ons.)

LOL, I knew it was you :)

We just got off the phone with SO's sister. She said, "Oh, really, anything. Gift cards, a bottle of champagne, anything to do with cooking/baking, money, whatever. They're not picky."

I said to SO, "Maybe we should give them a gift card saying I'll teach them to bake!"

Actually, my niece's fiance is a pretty good amateur baker. He did a cookie tray for Christmas which was a hit. He's not too shabby at decorating either.

God Bless It!!! I am trying to get this challenge done!!! I have one done....but I am having the WORST time with the other 3.

::shakes fist at Gary::

I was going to do the Break Topics but between work and my own stuff going on, I'm just not in the headspace for them :/

Good morning early birdies!

I'm still determined to write for the break prompts, but I still have to set up the new-to-me tower. Have laundry to do this morning, have to dash out for important things I forgot yesterday - why brain, why? - then the usual attempt at Sabbath prep. And then, set up computer and write!

I need to check out the work room!

Laundry room opens in ten minutes. I get to beathe for five! (Happy grin)

Thank you, Gary!

I am enjoying working around Twitter, thanks to the interactions there. For Ello I am still to find the pulse. Thanks for the mention, Gary :)

Hi all! Sorry I've been quiet of late! Between the holiday (which was nice) and getting mentally prepared to go into class to get a new guide dog, I've not been online as much as usual. I leave on Monday for The Seeing Eye and will be there until Jan. 19. I should be able to keep up with Idol though. (hopefully!) I hope all are well!

[identity profile] murielle.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)

Missed you! (Big smile)

I hope when you get back you will tell us all about the process and the pup.

[identity profile] baxaphobia.livejournal.com 2016-12-31 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I usually try to write in my LJ when I get a new guide dog. I'm going to try to do it again this go round and I'll make the entries public. But I don't mind if people friend me if it would make people read my guide dog journey easier!

[identity profile] murielle.livejournal.com 2016-12-31 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to friend you right now! Kicking myself because I thought I already had. (Sheepish grin)

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello from Texas! I've managed three of the four topics so far; hoping to get my possum in gear tonight, lol!

[identity profile] kathrynrose.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You're in the right state for it. :)

[identity profile] beeker121.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I just went and followed the LJ Pinterest, it looks both fun and useful.

I have today to myself (and work). Tomorrow friends are picking me up for a four hour drive to where we're doing NYE. I am looking forward to the gaming/eating/drinking but not the drive or the not having a quiet corner to retreat. Ah well, soon it'll be back to routine.

[identity profile] murielle.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you liked it...if you think of anything please let me know. I took years to build up my personal pinterest page, it grew organically. This is new, exciting and not so much organic. (Smile)

[identity profile] lordrexfear.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, I finished!

I wrote all the break week pieces and I think they're pretty damn good. I'll try and find time to read everyone elses now, but who knows what may come. It's almost the last day of the year.

2016 is ALMOST over everyone... ALMOST!

[identity profile] kathrynrose.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even know what Ello is. Also I can't let myself be dragged back into the addiction that is Pinterest.

You kids get off my lawn! :)

I have two half-entries written. Heh.

[identity profile] xo-kizzy-xo.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ello was supposedly going to be a Facebook alternative, like Gary said. I know some people who'd signed up for it. Evidently it never really got off the ground.

I haven't been to Pinterest in over a year and I don't intend on rekindling my account. The less internet crack in my life the better.

[identity profile] messygorgeous.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't kick me, but I really appreciate having this break. There is simply so much going on at home and work during the holiday, it's been wonderful to not be freaking out about deadlines for Idol too. That said, I am ready for our next BIG topic - woohoo!

[identity profile] bleodswean.livejournal.com 2016-12-31 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
*nods* Same. I feel this huge amount of guilt for not writing. I haven't even been able to look at the topics...but yes, am looking very forward to the next topic. And those who are writing definitely deserve an award of sorts for doing that x4 this week! Props!

[identity profile] my-name-is-jenn.livejournal.com 2016-12-31 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I fully intended on doing one or two of those topics and then family flew in for the holidays and things just got chaotic.

Is it a bad thing that I'm glad they're gone now? Eh, probably.

[identity profile] roina-arwen.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I got all four topics done - three of them are poems, but I really love them (especially Kummerspeck)!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
