Green Room - Week 11 - Day 6

Tonight is the deadline: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/680460.html but we already have had one drop. I was going to wait to talk about it, since there were a couple other things on my mind this morning – but I decided not to do that.

[livejournal.com profile] alexpgp is the type of “busy” that most people only dream about being. Which is why he ultimately had to drop this week, in order to concentrate on that pesky “Real Life”. Anyone who has been following Idol for any length of time knows that I would literally fight someone for an officer position in his official Fan Club. He’s someone who is fairly low key, and might not interact as much, so you don’t hear as many people talk about it – but those who find it usually end up quickly becoming fans. Losing him is always a blow, and is no less in this mini-season.

The good news though is that he’s the first to qualify to select something from the Community Chest! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/676576.html So, there’s that…

***

In other news – I learned something important yesterday. Something that I don’t think can be said enough… teenagers interested in social justice are extremely annoying. It’s great that they are taking an interest in the world around them – and realizing the existence of privilege… but teenagers tend to be annoying on their own, and believe that they have all of the answers… I know, I was one (long ago)… so, teens with a *cause*… man… they were nice enough people, and perfect great to talk to, but once they got on that soapbox… I’d forgotten what it was like! It makes me wonder why the homicide rate of teenagers isn’t higher! ;)

I thought Idol contestants were annoying!! “Teen LJ Idol” would be a nightmare! ;)

No, great. I totally wanted my shameless self promotion to be the first comment. Awesome.

This is wonderful! Congrats!

And it's a fun read. (Though that's not really a surprise.)

[identity profile] tatdatcm.livejournal.com 2013-08-07 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats!

I read it earlier through a mutual friend's ([profile] user) Facebook post. It was very good and very amusing and I enjoyed it. :)

Damn you, [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp for succumbing to "Real Life"! You're totally one of my favorites! *pouty*

On the plus side, I got both my entries done and posted, so that's a HUGE load off. I'm hoping to get some pre-reading done today if I can, but this evening after work I'm heading off to my BFF's place to help her elder son pack stuff into a moving truck, as he got an engineering job down in Texas and has to Move All His Stuff down there. I doubt I'll actually be doing much of the grunt work, but there will be pizza for everyone, so yay!

[identity profile] ecosopher.livejournal.com 2013-08-07 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] alexpgp is certainly awesome. I hope he can make it back from reality in time for Season 9!

Teenagers can be so enthusiastic, can't they? It's endearing, sometimes. And sometimes it's just annoying :)

I made pumpkin scones today. Also, it's raining. That about sums it up, really.

Goodnight!

Social justice warriors as opposed to actual social justice is a tricky subject. We talk about it sometimes in our house, as our resident teenager is very interested in social justice but has been bullied to the point of an emotional breakdown by friends of her older sister - and her older sister sided with the friends. Her older sister has been swallowed by the social justice warrior community, which I think...I think it's young people getting ideas from a higher level of development, but expressing them from the level of development they're at - which is low empathy, high conformity, and high judgment.

Also I am four chapters into my new epic Sims story and anyone here who misses my Idol entries is welcome to read it - the first chapter is NSFW, with pics of Sims making out in their underwear. Just FYI.

:)

Hope you all have a great day! I am off to take tours!

Thank you for finally articulating that for me. I've never been able to put my finger on why, exactly,
the social justice warrior-types were "doing it wrong," but I think you've hit the nail on the head here. I had considered the watered down and distorted social justice "theory" that many of them are reading on certain websites that start with T, but it hadn't occurred to me that it wasn't just bad info, but a developmental thing, too.

I sympathize with [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp here ... it's going to be a photo-finish for me to get things submitted tonight. There's still hope, but ... I don't suppose there's an option for "submit entries telepathically," is there?

One of my former students dropped by yesterday.

She's working on her MA now!

I think it's great. She wasn't one of my brightest students (She thought that the Grand Canyon was in Arkansas.) BUT she was one of the hardest workers, and always had a great attitude.

Aw. :( I hope they come back for season 9!

I want to be rewriting my novel but I've been watching Black Butler. ;) It's addicting.

Morning guys. Working and writing. Zumba later on. We're still adjusting to life with one less kitty. It's weird.

I usually leave my writing to the night before it's due (which is usually morning time for me) and that's fine… Except when I have to write for two topics. It's almost 1:30 AM here and I just finished writing. My head hurts.

(I've never been very good at time management.)

Waves at idol. I totally promised myself that I wouldn't disappear this season, and I did anyway. I'm busy gearing up to convince myself to write a story I've been working on since high school and recently changed the main character to a woman. I'm also trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life, since I decided this was my last year looking for a teaching job. I'm completely clueless and uninspired. Obviously the only solution is to marry rich ;)

Hopefully I'll be around a little more.

[identity profile] agirlnamedluna.livejournal.com 2013-08-07 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I should be able to bring more story to this round before tonight ... at least I hope. *waves*

I've been a fan of [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp since he invited me in on a short story he wrote, to this day I still think it's one of best pieces of fiction I've written and it was all his doing. So hats off to him, and sad to see him go.

[identity profile] halfshellvenus.livejournal.com 2013-08-07 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
But... this interferes with my plan to read more of [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp's entries!

Darn that rocket science-- it just eats your life. :O

[identity profile] lrig-rorrim.livejournal.com 2013-08-07 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw this great story (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/08/science/after-decades-of-research-henrietta-lacks-family-is-asked-for-consent.html?smid=tw-share&_r=0) about the family of Henrietta Lacks FINALLY getting some kind of say in the publication and use of Henrietta's genome, and thought I'd share - I remember there being some lively discussion about HeLa last exhibit (or was it Season 8? I'm all Idol-blurred), and thought y'all might find this interesting.

[identity profile] theun4givables.livejournal.com 2013-08-07 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's the closest I've ever cut it to an Idol deadline.

It feels strangely invigorating, lol.

[identity profile] belleweather.livejournal.com 2013-08-07 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I am also going to have to drop for Real Life reasons. Just found out that my three kids were exposed to active, infectious TB. Since they currently have all the symptoms of HAVING active, infectious TB -- high fevers, night sweats, coughing like a mofo, they're talking about proactive quarantine and rapid blood tests. Trying to coordinate all of that from another country (they're at summer camp in the U.S. while all this is happening, because my life is really an absurdist screenplay in disguise...) leaves me no time to write and even if I could hack something together, things are likely to get crazier before it gets saner.

I'm sorry, I've loved being a part of Idol, and I'll miss it and you.

[identity profile] kathrynrose.livejournal.com 2013-08-07 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! I hope everyone feels better soon!

[identity profile] notodette.livejournal.com 2013-08-07 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to drop by again (it's a big day for me), because another piece I wrote just got published.

This one is important because it's the first-ever idol entry I ever did.

So, SAVE YOUR STUFF FROM HERE AND SUBMIT IT PLACES!!!

Cheezus pleazus, I am refreshing the topic page like MAD hoping people get their stuff in. This is almost worse than waiting on gatekeeper or contestant only voting. AAAAAAAAARGH!

[identity profile] anyonesghost.livejournal.com 2013-08-08 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Does this mean that irony dictates that this deadline will be immediately followed by contestant-only voting?
