Green Room - Week 8 - Day 7

People find figures from the past of other cultures to be fascinating. It’s not just an “American thing”, or even a “Western thing”. The cultural appropriation of grabbing something you think is interesting, and using it as your own, without any true understanding has been going on, well, as long as things have been going on… one village would find a symbol (or often deity) from another village and go “Yeah, us too!”

So really, is it any surprise the in a global marketplace that you will find that people who see something that “everyone knows” will grab that image and use it to make a buck?

Even if they really don’t “get it”?

Yes. I’m talking about HITLER FRIED CHICKEN http://www.ibtimes.com/hitler-fried-chicken-kfc-may-sue-restaurant-thailand-replacing-colonel-sanders-adolf-hitler-1336611 and the general trend in Southeast Asia.

I suppose we should just be grateful that they don’t advertise how they only use gas ovens… *sigh*

You would think they would at least do a *little* research before embracing the image… this *is* the age of the internet after all… you would think that… oh, sorry, look at the time. I have more to say on this, but right now I’m late to meet someone for brunch at Vlad-the-Breakfast-Impaler. They serve everything kabob style!

You have a poll to keep you busy until I get back. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/673598.html

I didn't know you had assets in South-East Asia, Gary :3

That said, it's actually scary that people don't know what Hitler stood for anymore. Even among people who should have no difficulty accessing all the information they could possibly want, it's deemed something from long ago therefore no longer interesting. Which is a scary trend, IMO.

No the scarry trend is that there are people who believe that the holocaust never really happened and its all a conspiracy designed to discredit Hitler and the Nazi party.

That is a scary trend, too. There are many, unfortunately. Then there's those who think he was just right, too, and actually did a lot of good.
