therealljidol | Green Room - Week 7

There is a lot of spirited and quite frankly fascinating conversation going on in the Work Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/504864.html and yesterday's Green Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/505504.html

I love seeing people working things out and exposing their general philosophies and thought processes, when discussing something that seems fairly basic, but has layers to it.

That said, there seemed to be some confusion about what Idol does and doesn't support. I need to remind people that opinions and observations about "this is my experience" are fine. But when it comes to speaking for Idol there's only one person who can do that. He's the one posting this. As long as people remember that, it's all good.

I know that some people just want to concentrate on writing the entry before the deadline. Which is today (Thursday the 8th!!) http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/504693.html So, if you don't have anything done yet, you best be getting a move on! ;)

I know others enjoy the conversations about "the craft" in the Work Room and the fun in the Green Room. When it comes to talking about writing though, I think it's entirely appropriate that it spill over. I hope it continues to do that.

But I want to make sure that the people who come in to just unwind and chat with people are also engaged.

*takes a look around at the general Idol audience*

I love your icon. I want to pick up flowers and join it in celebration.

It's been raining cold and hard here since early yesterday morning. I'm keeping watch on the street to make sure it doesn't get to ark proportions as it's wont to do :shudder:

I can't begin to tell you how long it took me to find that icon. When I saw it I had to gank it. I mean, how can I throw confetti when I don't have the appropriate icon?

So I have something written, gotten feedback from my boyfriend and was considering taking a bye anyway because I'm just so dang tired and in a bad headspace tonight. I can't focus on what needs tweaked. But I decided I might send it to a few more people, hit the hay early and hope to god I make it home early enough to do last minute edits and post tomorrow. It makes more sense and I need sleep so badly right now.

Work is killing me. It's absolutely brutal right now and kind of ridiculous too. But I think my entry idea is good, I like where I went with it... I'm just not in the proper mood to edit. I've got lots on my mind tonight. Lots and lots of stuff not related to Idol that's messing up my head right now.

I'll get over it though. Sleep is my friend. I'm whiny and hateful when I'm tired.

I haven't been able to focus very well this evening, so if there are any glaringly horrible problems, feel free to let me know. I can't count how many times I tried typing two words at once, and swapped around my there/theirs *SHAME*

FYI, and I'm making this a formal announcement- if I make it past christmas, I'm going to celebrate by writing a sestina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sestina), which will probably be the end of me, but if my creative writing class last year was any indication, it'll be worth it.

Bah, the weather! Don't even get me started.

Christmas shopping - I only have to buy for my nieces and nephew since the adults in my family have decided to skip on present-giving this year. That's fine by me! I can buy a tub of Lego for the kidlets and be done with it XD

In other news... I was talking about this with Gary earlier, and having been inspired by the recent concrit discussions, I was thinking of making a post in my own LJ where people could discuss each other's strengths and weaknesses. To be clear - it would be opt-in. As in, you leave a comment saying, "Yes, I want to know what people think are my strengths and weaknesses." It would definitely not be an open free-for-all.

For me, personally, sometimes, it's best to get an overall idea of how you are as a writer or what you could improve on, as opposed to what you could improve on in a specific entry since, in a contest like Idol, subject matter and even style of entries change every week.

I wanted to check, though, whether people would even be open to participating in something like that before I made the post. Or, if you prefer, maybe it can be something to do in next week's Work Room? We can start a thread and people can leave comments there?

If I posted my post right now, I'd have double words and incomplete sentences. So I'm not. I'm sleeping instead. Which reminds me... I need to get off here to sleep.

I'm surprised I'm still awake. I never went back to sleep after Jack got sick, so I'm cruising on probably 3 hours' worth. And people think I only do this while I'm working :p

I'm just about ready to crash too. Hopefully nothing shiny will catch my attention!

It's 9:30 here, but I've wanted to sleep since 5:30. I'm exhausted.

He's much better :) I gave him some plain yogurt with his kibble tonight to balance the icky. Of course now he won't poop :headdesk:

Guess I should just say hi NOW. I've been driving to work, instead of my normal long-distance mass transit commute, and while you might think I like that better, you'd be WRONG.

So, a couple more days of that and then I'm back to riding the rails again. Huzzah!
