Green Room - Week 7 - Day 3

There is a lot of spirited and quite frankly fascinating conversation going on in the Work Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/504864.html and yesterday's Green Room http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/505504.html

I love seeing people working things out and exposing their general philosophies and thought processes, when discussing something that seems fairly basic, but has layers to it.

That said, there seemed to be some confusion about what Idol does and doesn't support. I need to remind people that opinions and observations about "this is my experience" are fine. But when it comes to speaking for Idol there's only one person who can do that. He's the one posting this. As long as people remember that, it's all good.

I know that some people just want to concentrate on writing the entry before the deadline. Which is today (Thursday the 8th!!) http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/504693.html So, if you don't have anything done yet, you best be getting a move on! ;)

I know others enjoy the conversations about "the craft" in the Work Room and the fun in the Green Room. When it comes to talking about writing though, I think it's entirely appropriate that it spill over. I hope it continues to do that.

But I want to make sure that the people who come in to just unwind and chat with people are also engaged.

*takes a look around at the general Idol audience*

So - what do you think of the current monetary policy of. . . *looks again* Yeah, that's not going to fly.

Uh... I think Tutuola said it best when. . . yeah. . . hmmm. . . . *takes one more look around* hmmm. . . *reads Idol's friends list for inspiration*

How about that Christmas shopping???

Did you see that meme? Isn't it SO funny?

Boobies!?!?

How about that weather we've been having. That's wild wacky stuff!

There you go? Better? ;)

Gary was referring, no doubt, to the blue-footed booby (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue-footed_Booby). The string of astonishment-expressing puntuation after the word being a nod to the implausibility of discussion on such a topic arising.

(Hope work lets up soon. Nothing worse than work getting in the way of the fun stuff!)

Thank you for that :)

I wasn't really thinking anyone would answer here though! But that's nice to know someone thinks that. My nonfiction used to be more of the emotional variety, it's where I felt "safe" but I'm trying to draw that into fiction (where I don't feel safe at all) and into more types of nonfiction. I'm glad it worked in my fiction, and Narcissim was one I really enjoyed writing, so I'm glad you enjoyed it too.

That makes much better sense. Gary talking about boobs? Nah. But a bunch of blue-footed booby's in the GR... That I could see. He probably found some rabid ones that are genetically modified with really sharp teeth and have a taste for human flesh knowing him.

Work always gets in the way of fun around here. I work too dang much. It's only going to get worse until after the holidays though. Thanks anyway!

That was a brave task to take on: bathing a cat. Now you know the poor thing has to lick for the next several hours. :}

I'm glad things are looking up today. Hopefully they keep getting better!

So far, I've got bupkis for this topic. Argh.

[identity profile] n3m3sis42.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a lot going on that I feel I can't talk about right now and I was thinking of spinning the "I've got nothing" post that way. However, I have very little writing time and I don't know if that's strong enough anyway so I may just finally take a bye. But I thought I'd point out that maybe "I've got nothing" could work if it were fleshed out enough. There could be a million other posts like that, though.

I'm having a whiny hateful week and thinking about a bye too.

[identity profile] n3m3sis42.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I would do it. :)

[identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope your week gets better :/

Mine is likely to stay this way till after the holidays because work sucks. But at least I got a job. That's what I keep telling myself.

Mornin' folks... *grumblegrumblegrubmle*

In a foul mood today. Not even a tasty cup of coffee seems to be helping. Meh.

Still trying to bang out an entry. But I don't know if I'm going to be able to pull it off and will more than likely end up taking a bye... which makes me a little more foul. Double meh.

Personally, I'd like to go home, go back to bed and pull the covers up over my head and just say "F it all".

If you need me, I'll be over here in the corner being entirely foul.

Christmas shopping is non-existent when you have no money. ;___;

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Argh indeed. Hope you can pull it off!

Glad to hear that future FIL is on the mend. Hope your day is a good one!

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. 7 hours? Like... in a row? Isn't that a personal best for you? :-p

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd probably almost kill for some rain about right now. Kudos on the first!

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with you... let's Bah Humbug together, shall we?

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a freshly bathed and completely pissed off looking cat right there. I think he's plotting your demise.

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack. Hope your back is feeling better today!

[identity profile] java-fiend.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I would *love* to have a white Christmas. :-)

I think it's very interesting to see what other people think of the writing, the types of entries and the wit or straight interpretation of the prompt.

What's more interesting is seeing which participants feel they have authority over others, especially being brand new and just being able to observe.

A group of any kind takes on different meaning when you've been there for a while, so that those who have participated for years have a different view than those who have been here just one year, who in turn have a different view from me, since this is my first.

There are people who emerge as powerhouses, in writing or green rooms or both. Then there are those who try to be the people who have emerged as powerhouses and come up short. There are those who are just naturally friendly and speak with no designs (my personal favorites). Then the others who look on and speak when it's necessary.

I'm new to idol, but I'm not new to communities and I would say that season eight idol is shaping up to be just exactly like an LJ community. Which is not a bad thing.

I know it's just not me. Last night I had to run to the store to get kibble. Most of the houses in my neighborhood going up to Current Employer Closest To Chez Kizzy bedeck themselves -- all the lights, the inflatable snowmen in the front yard, decorated trees in the window, etc. -- it's truly a gorgeous drive. This year hardly anybody has bedecked anything. It looks so forlorn. It's like Christmas is an afterthought :(

See, miracles DO exist!
