Green Room - Week 6 - Day 3

The Idol elves have been busy decorating to celebrate the new month.

Human skulls on pikes is “Christmas”y – right?

Maybe we can put one on top of the tree, both as celebration and warning. Which is really all the same thing these days.

Speaking of warnings – the deadline to get in your entries is tonight. http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/502415.html

It’s looking pretty scary right now. When we started, there were over 50 contestants who didn’t have a bye left, which put them in danger of leaving us. The last time I checked, that number was down into the 30s of folks who were on the verge this week. Even if we end up with “less than half” – that’s still going to be a blow that will take us down to really close to the 200 contestant mark.

With another week of tribal shifts, this could be major in how this season ends up playing out. Then again, every week in Idol is major toward that goal. But given that “200” will mark the start of “Phase 2”, when things start getting interesting. . . well, I guess people had better start securing their seatbelts!

The number of bye-outs this season is scary. Have previous seasons seen large chunks go each week due to bye-outs?

I wouldn't mind the skull on the top of the tree, honestly, if we could just cover it in glitter. Still a grisly warning, but with a little holiday cheer.

We could paint the skull red with green stripes and lots of silvery glitter! It would be AWEsome!

I'm liking that idea. It would take a steady hand to get the stripes just right (and not super crooked, like I would do). Any takers for that task?

I'm pretty good with painting; we could mark the line with a bit of pencil first to be sure it is straight.

Glitter makes everything better! (Now I want a skull for the top of the tree)

I wonder if those Day of the Dead Skulls would work... hmm.

I don't think the bye-outs are much worse than previous seasons... Especially if you consider how many more people came in this season. It always starts out with lots of bye-outs at the beginning I think, especially with the holidays right here.

I'd put a glittery skull on top of my tree if I could... Just sayin'

That's true, there were a lot more people at the start... But still, it feels like we're sloshing insane amounts of people out of the boat. :(

I think next year, after Halloween, I'm going to buy a bunch of the cheap foam skulls and re-do them for Christmas. Sell 'em on Etsy, make a killing, retire to Aruba with a cabana boy.

[identity profile] pixiebelle.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's fairly common though... Every season has a lot of bye outs at the beginning where people never get their footing. Especially with people coming in from The Spotlight who may not have caught on to the idea of deadlines or the time commitment :/

Sounds like a plan! Though choose your cabana boy carefully ;)

Finding a good cabana boy these days is just so difficult. No one wants to wear the gold shorts anymore. *tsk tsk*

This makes Rocky very sad!

[identity profile] wookiewife.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
All cabana boys get held up to the Rocky Standard. Though, if - in just 7 days (and 6 more nights) - we can make him a man, he has the job.

No, the insane people have stayed in.

Oh, amounts you said...

[identity profile] wookiewife.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If we got rid of the insane people... I don't want to think about that! What a horrible twist that would be.

And so boring, too.

Hee hee hee! (See icon!)

I'm willing to bet that the number is roughly average in comparison to how many people actually signed up. Idol usually loses a chunk of people around this time, but I think the number seems bigger because there were more signups this season.

The skull thing kind of pisses me off.

[identity profile] imafarmgirl.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really disgusting if you take it at its true meaning. I guess it doesn't piss me off I just don't find it funny.

I'm pretty sure that bye outs are usually very heavy in the first few weeks. I've only been competing for three seasons though. It seems like some people join the competition without knowing exactly how much time they'll need to devote to writing entries and then wind up missing deadlines or deliberately dropping. The bye outs slow down a lot once we get to the end of the year though.
